What a great venue! We saw Six - The Musical. Very easy process for scanning tickets and quick moving concession lines. There really isn't a bad seat in the place. We sat in the middle balcony section (Zone 8). Seats were perfect. Lots of seating areas for pre show drinks and chatting. Parking is only $10 and right across the street. Lots of great bars and dinner spots in walking distance. Strongly recommend. read more

Wilson Center - Performing Arts Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College is an ok venue. It could be great though. There is one entrance that is also the only exit. This isn't a problem as much when entering but when everyone is exiting the same way it just seemed a little much. It seems they could utilize others doors to get people out faster. Leaving a show is one thing but in an emergency time is of the essence. The orchestra level seems lacking in adequate restroom stalls for a performance with an intermission. I was there for two performances of Come From Away which has no intermission so that seems like it was a positive for this venue. On my second performance, the paper towels were out of at least one machine before the performance started. I walked to the venue so did not deal with parking but it seemed most parked in the garage across from the entrance/exit to the venue. The lobby has some seating and the concession area is mostly focused on beverages with a few food items like pretzels (cold not served warm); a charcuterie box and candy. I had hoped for better options after the disappointing cold pretzel the first night I did not get anything the second night. Then they wait until 30 minutes before showtime to seat the ADA guests. Every other venue I have been to does this much earlier to give a full 30 minutes to the rest of the guests to get to their seating. The first night I was there we were not allowed in until after 7:18 for the show that was to begin at 7:30pm. I thought it was a fluke the first night then they waited to seat the ADA guests the second night too. My seats for both shows were in the pit but I didn't know the seating was office chairs so that was disappointing. I tried to bring a jacket with more cushioning for the second night. I did enjoy both shows even with the uncomfortable seating. I drive to see shows at many venues but I don't see myself driving to a performance here again. read more

I was impressed with the venue. The entry went well with little delay. I had WILL CALL tickets and the pickup process went smoothly. Past that was the staff that politely and professionally guided this first-timer to where I would enter for my seats as well as informing me of restroom and concession locations. Once the doors to the auditorium opened, the staff was pleasant and guided me to my seat. Impressive auditorium. Seems all of the seating give a great view of the stage. Comfortable seats. I was fortunate to get streetside parking beside the venue, but I am pleased that a parking garage was another option. read more

Project 1898 was world class. Imagine the quality and fun of a show you would see in a big city minus the traffic jam and dodging crowds. Friendly staff, clean space and well organized and behaved crowd made it an amazing and relaxing experience at the same time. read more

We would like to see a show at the CFCC Wilson Center, but the ticket prices and fees are completely obscene. For example, Mark Twain Tonight tickets at the National Theater in Washington D.C. are at least one fourth the cost than the Wilson Center. The same show in Durham is even cheaper than that. They need to explain and justify their pricing. And paying a much overpaid college president is not a valid reason for this pricing! read more

I have seen many, many shows here and the seats are very comfortable, the building is beautiful and the view of the stage is great from any angle. The bathrooms are clean and there are workers everywhere. The security in place is very easy to get through as they have updated their system. We saw the Brit Floyd show lastnight and it was spectacular. read more

Downtown Wilmington's premier performance venue, the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College seats about 1500 and is a fine place to see a comedy show, a Broadway touring production, or a symphony concert. The volunteers working the events are friendly and knowledgeable, keeping the ticket lines moving and graciously ushering patrons to their seats. At the event I attended recently, the North Carolina symphony's performance of "Debussy's La Mer," there was an art exhibit across from the concession area with seascape-themed paintings from local artists. There's also a lovely little art gallery across the street from the main entrance to Wilson Center. It's the Wilma W. Daniels gallery, and they have rotating exhibits. The evening of the symphony, they were showcasing CFCC student art projects. Parking is relatively easy - there are at least two parking garages and various parking lots in the area, along with street parking, and they have a drop-off area for Uber and Lyft on 2nd. Wilson Center itself is open and airy, and the venue has decent acoustics. The seats seem a little close together compared to other venues, but there's plenty of leg room and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. read more

I attended the Pat Benatar concert last night (6/28/22). I cannot say enough about how impressed I was by the staff. The second I walked through the front doors, clearly struggling with my cane, (more on that later) they pounced to help me in every way possible, all the way to my seat. From security to seat! They were everywhere. It was reassuring. The place is perfectly designed. I've had seats from the top tier to the orchestra (last night, row M). The place is very comfy, with wide aisles and wonderful acoustics (the sound mix and level last night was perfect). I've been able to see well over a hundred concerts and theatre shows from DC to various stops in between, to Wilmington. This is one of the best theatres I've ever attended. Bathrooms and concessions are close. And it's an easy exit with the wide aisles and hallways. And again, the numerous ushers are there to assist you with anything. And finally, everything is so clean! To me, it's the little things. Now, to my major annoyance. And I stress, this is NOT the theatre's fault AT ALL!! The county deputies refused to let anyone be dropped of in front of the main doors on 3rd Street. And they were extraordinary a**holes about it. My Uber driver (Garrett, great guy) pulled up to let me out and the deputies started yelling at him very aggressively. They said we had to be dropped off on 2nd Street, behind the theatre. I told them I was handicapped and had trouble walking very far, and the two obese females yelled at me they didnt care, drop-off was behind the building and now move or they would give the driver a $175 ticket for impeding traffic. I gotta be me, so I asked what traffic? Only one car drove by. They went into orbit faced with that reasoning. Our minds were so blown at that point, we were having trouble processing it. The driver was equally shocked but dropped us off where instructed, which was difficult to find. So I had to walk UP HILL for a full block, my partner holding on to me. I about passed out when I got to the door. No wonder the staff pounced. I did not look good. (For the record, I had not had a drop of alcohol in two days.) Upon exiting after the show, I ordered our Uber and waited out front. Myself in a wheelchair and partner looking for the ride. He stopped and deputies (3) swarmed him and were actually yelling/screaming at him to keep moving. Bear in mind, there was NO traffic while this was happening, on the three lane downtown street. It was 10:00 at night, there's no traffic! While this was happening, another deputy confronted me in my chair next to the doors and got really rude with me, gestapo-like, and told me I couldn't stay there to move along. I told him that was enough! I am clearly hobbled and can't make the walk back to 2nd. He just said, "Get going. You can't stay here." One of the theatre's staff came out to diffuse the situation and said we could use the wheelchair down to 2nd, just bring it back. As we turned to head back down the block (I gotta be me) I told the deputy, thanks, a**hole. The reason I bring this up is not to complain about the county gestapo, which is apparently now horrible, but to get the theatre's and school's attention regarding this. The gestapo forced a clearly handicapped person to walk up a long hill on school property on a muggy 85-degree night. The liability factors are enormous to the school. And what would the handicapped lawyers think about this, since I was denied ADA access to the arena. I just might have to find out. By the way, the concert was fantastic. Patricia and Neil looked great and her pipes are still as great as they have always have been. And GUSHING accolades to Wilson's booking staff for snagging this show. Incredible work! She's not coming close to this region again on this tour. This was the second time in forty years seeing her concert. I'm so happy I could hear those pipes and Neil's guitar again and seeing it at Wilson truly enhanced the experience! read more

I was given the gift of a VIP ticket to the Masterchef LIVE show this past week as a birthday present from my sister. What a disappointment!! It was a children's show at best and should have been advertised as such. It was amateurish, poorly produced and had nothing redeeming for adults. My sister spent a LOT of money on VIP tickets, and we got nothing for that but a small paper poster and Q&A with contestants. There was no celebrity chef, nothing. It was a total waste of literally HUNDREDS of dollars.. Shame on you Wilson Center for the poor advertising, poor setting of expectations and pathetic camera work. Also for delivering so little for the price of that ticket. We will never buy a VIP ticket again for one of your shows. I have been to many shows at the Wilson Center and was happy. This was beyond awful. read more

I was here this past Saturday to watch Rent at the 2pm showing. Finding parking was pretty easy and since we had just made donations at the Salvation Army across the street we asked if we could stay there and did :) We made a very quick and easy pickup of our tickets at Will-call. The ladies were warm and helpful. Upon entering we could easily see where the ladies room was but not the mens. It was on the other side of the venue. There were several offering for alcohol, snacks etc but the lines were long. We were told that we could get a few items upstairs so we did that. To go upstairs you can use the elevator or stairs. We used the stairs because, well, my Fitbit isn't a fashion piece! The walk was pretty quick. There is ample seating if someone needs to take a rest between floors. When we got to our area we purchased two ciders and a box of M&M's. The box was obviously gone before the show started, haha! However, the ciders were sizable and lasted a good while. My only complaint is that there are zero cup holders. We sat in row JJ and had no problem seeing anything. However, I am a "sit on the edge of my seat" gal with 20/20 vision. I would definitely return to the facility. It was clean and the staff were all professional. read more

(Lily Tomlin was on stage practicing, therefore we couldn't scope out the seats!...Love Lily!) Carolyn was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind! A friend of mine and I saw Boys II Men here last week! It was soooo awesome! The venue is similar to DPAC (a smaller version). It's newer so the staff is still learning the ropes but the seats were comfortable. Something interesting - they served wine, etc before the show but said they wouldn't sell it after the show began. We went to see "Amazing Grace" with some friends and were very impressed with the facility and especially the staff. We had box seats that provided a great view of the stage; the server was extraordinary and the snack tray provided had all manner of delicious yummies. From the moment we arrived to when we left, we had a glorious experience and I am considering membership to get first shot at the productions here. Definitely adds a sparkle to Wilmington; Cape Fear Community College is to be commended for the quality of the production. read more

I went to see The Carolina Nutcracker with my son. The theater was beautiful and clean. My son called the building a tower because it's so tall and open. Bathrooms were awesome they have a family one which is important. During intermission a lady stood at the end of the line with a sign so you'd know where to go. Staff will make sure you're visit is delightful. Security outside as we were asking in even told us to enjoy our show. read more
