Nurturing, loving, educational and fun. Willow Tree preschool is an important part of our family. We love the owner Kim and all her staff!

But for the cost, there are much better options in Portland! We had a terrible experience with this preschool. This business is run by someone who lacks professional ethics to an extreme we've never before encountered. Long story short, Angela Molloy Murphy has no problem using a contract to screw a family out of thousands of dollars, and will refuse to even discuss the possibility of working out a mutually agreeable solution to a problem. If you do decide to go with this school--be warned. Please do not pre-pay any amount more than necessary, and do not trust Angela Molloy Murphy to follow basic codes of decency or fairness in any business interaction! Protect yourself.

I should say "are" because we are still close with Angela, her family, and the other families who attended the school. My oldest daughter was welcomed into the school at age 3 and she spent the next three years growing, exploring, challenging and thriving. My second daughter was a part of the community from the day she was born and while she's a very different child from her sister she found the same nurturing educational environment. One of the things I most admire about Angela is her ongoing enthusiasm of early childhood education and the fact that she is always evolving her school based on new information and what are the needs of the children in the classroom at that moment. I went from a somewhat nervous new preschool mom, asking a million questions all the time, to knowing that whatever was going on in Angela's classroom was fun, exciting, and appropriate for the kids. I see that Cedar L, below, questions Angela's ethics; I find this laughable. Angela is one of the most generous, honest and straightforward people I know. In the course of our nine-year relationship I think we've had to have a few conversations where something had to be worked out, as is to be expected when you're doing business with someone, and that's what a preschool is--a business, after all. I don't even remember exactly what those things were due to Angela's they lovely way working through small conflicts and preserving great relationships.

The kindness and patience of the staff is amazing. Teacher Emily is an expert in child development and education through the Montessori method, recognizing individual strengths of each child. The staff takes great care to prepare and regularly rotate activities designed for different aspects of development. Their home is a safe environment with an outdoor space and conveniently located near two parks. We have seen so much growth in our son since he joined the OBS community. He had a speech delay and Teacher Emily worked closely with Multnomah Early Childhood Program for services. Not only is his speech improved, but he is more independent and has made friends. We are confident he is ready for kindergarten and are so glad OBS has been part of our village!

However, my permanent impression of this business will forever be tarnished by our experience with the owner and her ethics. If it weren't for my comment above I would give this business one star. We were required to give a 30 day notice to end our contract with discovery gardens, which we did. The way our online payments are set through our bank and not knowing what our prorated amount for the month of July would be, we allowed for the payment for a full month to go through to avoid a late fee. My husband communicated this to the manager of that facility and she didn't seem to see a problem with this, as in we should have the money we didn't owe returned to us. I called the owner at the beginning of July about this. Not only did she not call me back but when i saw her a full week later she acted as if she may not be able to return our overpayment to us. She said the contract we signed didn't allow for "refunds" and gave me some kind of song and dance about how difficult it is to do this with payroll, IRS, etc. She also mentioned she thought it was strange that we made a full month's payment. She had no problem cashing our check though without checking in and asking. I immediately went and looked at our contract that night and it said nothing of the sort. Just refunds for regularly scheduled days. Anyways, she actually had the nerve to be rude to my husband later that week when he asked about it. She did tell him it would be 30 days to see a check. My husband said he was writing that down and she said to him " I don't care". I emailed her to confirm the day we would expect a check and, of course, she didn't respond. I am appalled by her lack of professionalism and business ethics. She acted as if she was entitled to the money, which was a decent chunk of change. What is worse, this isn't a business i had my car fixed at or a place i had dinner; we trusted her with the most important things in our lives, our children. If she treats parents this way, i can only imagine how she treats her staff as well. I am extremely glad our children's care are not being entrusted to her business and management anymore.

Their website doesn't have prices so I emailed their designated address. I didn't hear anything after a week, so I called and left a message...didn't hear anything back. She took down my information and no one has got back to me yet.
