This spring, the same two trees are still struggling. We returned with photos and even performed the "scratch test" they demanded. The staff agreed the trees were in trouble but told us we had to call HQ. After multiple calls, voicemails, and being bounced around departments, we were finally told someone might get back to us in 7-15 days. We paid more at Meadows Farms expecting professionalism and a real warranty. Instead, we got delays, dismissiveness, and a warranty process designed to wear customers down. If I had it to do again, I would have gone to Home Depot or Lowe's--there, you simply bring the receipt back within a year and get a replacement. No hassle, no runaround. Meadows Farms wasted my time, treated us poorly, and did not stand behind their product. I cannot recommend them.

One of the coolest things they have are "treadable" plants for stepping stones. Some varieties were thyme and mint, and others seemed to be succulent-style to not smash under food, while there are blooming types as well. They have a great variety of shrubs, flowers, tomatoes, and bell peppers. Looks like they are getting deliveries often as the weather is warming up enough to start planting. Proprietor was kind and helpful as well.

Having purchased from Grelen in the past, we called to discuss our needs and worked with Sarah on design and plant selection. She was very helpful and responsive and came up with a design that met our needs for a low maintenance, deer resistant garden. As part of the plan, we wanted to transplant 3 large (8' tall) boxwoods. The Grelen crew managed that part beautifully - picking up and moving the plants with skill and care. They then prepped the bedding areas carefully - keeping what we wanted and removing the rest; adding and tilling in compost and putting in new plants. The size and number of plants had to be adjusted slightly, but that was done very skillfully. Joaquin and Roman, the crew leaders made some excellent suggestions, based on their extensive experience, that we and Sarah were glad to take. The crew did great work: they were careful, neat, and skillful. I'm not sure where Grelen falls on the cost spectrum. Friends have said they are expensive. I'd say they aren't cheap, but I think they did very good work and were efficient, skilled and careful. So far, I think we've gotten what we paid for.

Other companies had done a good job in previous years, but the Grelen price was less and they promised a more environmentally safe product. In the end, the fruits were totally covered with and killed by rust -- it was the worst outcome in 12 years! Grelen refused any responsibility and would not even refund their fee, much less pay for the damage their incompetence caused. They were arrogant and argumentative. Find someone who will stand behind their work -- not Grelen!

They kept their word and we were able to hire a private contractor to come in and spread the gravel. I was extremely disappointed initially but I have to be fair and update the review to accurately reflect their customer service efforts. In my opinion, that was above and beyond what was required but it was also very much appreciated. The refund was close to cover the additional costs so we didn't have to pay all of it out of pocket. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for materials. I would also advise that you put everything in writing together so that the vendor and customer both have a clear understanding of what is being provided. Props to them for handling this issue well. After being told that we would have the delivery of gravel for our driveway tailgate spread we agree to place the order with this company. This was promised as part of the purchase. The truck malfunctioned and the entire load of 6 yards of gravel was dumped at the entrance of our driveway making it impassible. I contacted John Moorman that day as well as attempted to call the office with no response - he was out of town at the time which I was aware of but expected someone to respond from the company. His email response said " And also why we don't offer tailgate spreading as a service nor do we charge for it." That is a blatant falsehood. The quote expressly said this was part of the service. When asked to have someone correct this I was told they don't have people to do that and while it's unfortunate and they feel bad there's nothing they will do. Not can do - will do. We now have to hire someone to move this as myself being disabled and my husband cannot possibly move a pile of 6 yards of gravel by hand. That will be out of pocket as our landlord will not pay for that since it was not agreed to. To deny the service promised is unacceptable. I will continue to share our experience in hopes of preventing another homeowner from getting taken advantage of.

Color Orchids was our second stop on this year's "Culpeper Harvest Days Farm Tour" Saturday. Who…read moreknew that there was a wholesale greenhouse orchid operation right here in Culpeper County? Not us. This was their first year on the tour. From the outside it just looks like your everyday large industrial building, but taking the tour (which ran every hour or so) & passing through the doors into the greenhouses - wow! Two acres of Phalaenopsis orchids in all stages of growth & bloom! The woman giving the tour was very knowledgeable & definitely seemed to enjoy her job/work. In just 7 years, Color Orchids is now one of the largest orchid growers in the United States. Their plants are sold in supermarkets, big-box stores, florists, & even on Amazon. The young plants are initially grown in Taiwan where the growing conditions are perfect for that stage of growth in quantity, then the young plants are shipped to Culpeper where they are grown on until bloom size. While we were there we got to see workers grading (& sometimes tossing) plants for quality along a large conveyor belt, & also got to see the workings of the climate-control system & a few of their patented Phalaenopsis varieties. The tour/talk was very interesting, & they also had a small display of miniature orchids for sale, as well as a raffle going on to win a large planter with around half a dozen Phalaenopsis. (Although I bought six tickets (6/$5), I haven't heard yet so someone else must've walked off with that prize - boo hoo!) Very unfortunately they do not sell to the public from the greenhouse - they are wholesale only except for during the tour. Bottom Line: This was a very interesting & new spot on the farm tour, & if they participate again in future years, we'll visit again.

Like a portal to Narnia this little rail-less concrete bridge runs over a beautiful creek and connects two different worlds. We arrived at the Honeycomb Heroes cottage shop. It was a cute "sometimes cottage core" "sometimes hunting retreat" one room honey and associated product boutique shop. We rang the "Ring" doorbell to summon our "Honey Guide". He quickly retrieved our honey selection from a temperature controlled setting. (It was still warm). Don't be fooled by this rustic feel the transaction was professional, quick and conveniently they are equip to take an array of payment options. We paid cash though. With over 900 hives on site this is a great place to find VA local collected honey. We happily took our locally collected honey home to sweeten our tea and calm our Virginia allergies. The product is delicious and the price was the going rate. Highly recommend.
