If I showed up in person, sometimes someone buzzed me in to the office, sometimes no one in the office and I had to try another time. Good thing my kids already older and they can communicate things with me. But I will not consider this school for regular attendance based on gap of communication among staff, educators and parents. It feels that parents concerns are not appreciated. The issue that I had was class changes, updating pick up person form. Had to do it multiple times and still not updated. So if you enroll your kids in summer school, pick your classes wisely. My daughter accidentally picked 3 science classes back to back and the school did not make any attempt to help us to change it until the next two days. One of this science class, my daughter was the only student there. For third week of summer school, my daughter chose spanish class as her last class of the day, and she was enrolled to something else. ---update 7/22/26 in response to South Hills Business Manager--- Thank you for your response. I appreciate your feedback. However, I would like to understand how South Hills Academy ensures that parents are able to effectively communicate their concerns with the Summer School division when emails go unanswered, phone calls are not returned, and, upon visiting the front office in person, I was instructed to "just email the director." I followed the process your staff directed me to follow by emailing the director, yet I did not receive any response or acknowledgment from South Hills Academy. As a parent, this leaves me without a clear avenue to address legitimate concerns. I would appreciate your clarification on how parents are expected to communicate when the established channels are unresponsive. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

I am very disappointed with the Pre-K Program headed by Martha Macias…read more I am giving a warning to the parents that are looking to enroll their toddlers into the Pre-K program. Do your research and refer to the parents' experience before doing so. The way Macias is running the Pre-K program may affect your kids negatively. Don't do it unless the school decides to change its Pre-School Director. My kid was doing really great with Mrs. Lisa (Monalisa Cabrera). If there's someone good that remains in the Pre-K program, that's Mrs. Lisa. My wife and I have nothing but praises towards Mrs. Lisa. She's done a tremendous job taking care of our son and other kids as well. Few months after my kid transitioned to Ms. Thompson alongside Mrs. Macias. My kid developed an aggressive behavior something that we've never seen him had before. On March 4, 2026, Mrs. Macias informed us at "the classroom entrance" that our son was no longer allowed to attend the school due to behavioral concerns. The conversation with my wife was conducted "outside of her office, in front of other parents, kids and staff. "VERY UNPROFESSIONAL" and she's considered as the Pre-K Director. This is very concerning and scary at the same time. We feel it would have been more appropriate to discuss this privately rather than at the classroom where others could overhear. I guess our privacy and confidentiality is not of her concern. My wife had only just entered the classroom when she began speaking, and even my mother-in law, who was there to pick up my son, was standing outside. The conversation was very one-sided, and we weren't given an opportunity to share our perspective. We were simply told that "your son can no longer come here." Straight up rejection from Mrs. Macias. It was upsetting to see our young son face the reality of being rejected and asked to leave a place where he was beginning to build relationships with classmates and teachers. We believe this was a difficult situation for him to understand at such a tender age. As a 20 year Airforce and Navy veteran, if I deploy, I want nothing but the security and safety of the love ones I leave behind while fighting for this country. It's very disappointing that a supposedly "Christian" school that should provide security and peace of mind when I leave my kid in their custody wasn't able to accomplish such an important task. After this experience, I will never ever be at peace leaving my kid on any school regardless of whether it's a Christian school or not. I have a lot of colleagues - Military and Christians - and I am not advising them to enroll their kids into South Hills' Pre-K program under Mrs. Macias. As of this moment, until changes are done with the Pre-K Program, enrolling your kid is not recommendable.

Rebecca Unver is the worst teacher , she is rude , horrible to the kids , and an unhappy miserable person: you can tell by how she speaks. I learned that this staff member was fired for contacting CPS, as she is mandated to do. As many know and I, myself knows very well, that ALL school staff members are mandated reporters. One day when I went to pick up my granddaughter I saw Ms. Levesque approach this staff member and a few mins later that staff member came to release my grandkid and saw tears down her cheecks so i asked what was wrong the staff member told me that mrs Levesque had just humiliated her with saying to use this as a lesson to be more professional not only for herself but her staff and to learn to do her job better. I found that very disturbing that the principal would tell her this after this woman had already lost her job and it was her last day at Vine..not professional at all.

The good, the bad, and the ugly:…read more The good: The community. The teachers, parents, and students all seem to be insync with providing a good environment for the children. There is a fundraiser every month to improve the quality and materials in the school. API is in the high 800 and more near 900 which is outstanding for a Covina elementary school. It truly is the best of Covina's schools. The bad: Class size is large, students do not get a lot of personal attention. However, they are a public school and the best so its understandable. Teachers are good, but you find a few here and there that you just don't like. The Ugly: The school could use a make-over and a little new paint. The people in the office are usually not the friendliest. They tend to forget that they are providing a service. The district itself is not good at keeping records. Whenever we get our transferred renewed I have to literally stay on top of the process the whole time because our paperwork got lost twice in the past two years. I believe the district has had the same people working these offices for years. They really need to do an assessment and hire some fresh blood that are hungry for work and experience with better people skills.

I love to go watch the high school plays and musicals on this campus. Thank you to that awesome teacher! My biggest complaint was that the promotion was exceptionally long! I attended a college graduation and a HS graduation both within these last 3 weeks and this 8 grade promotion by far was the longest! Maybe if the principal hadn't gone on and on and talked so much it would have made it much shorter and more enjoyable. The video at the end was absolutely great and as each one signed off made it even more special. This is the second promotion I have attended for this school. Library is open during lunch and after school for any student to take an AR quiz to reach their goal or get ahead. Grovecenter also offers Saturday school for students to make up a day the were absent and have it cleared off completely. During that time AR quizzes taken will be added to their goal as well. Valet drop off and pick up is another great perk and saves time and hassle of looking for parking. The new principal Mrs Williams is amazing. She seems to always have a smile on her face and really love it there. The school is great.

I was ridiculed as I couldn't spell "color" right as I learned it as "colour" and the blatant racism from students because of the way I pronounced words or how I dressed and looked because of my parents financial situation at times. There was a few teachers I felt comfortable with that made me feel like a normal student there but I remember being told I couldn't report my bullying because it happened yesterday and not recent so I spent hours in the play ground with kids picking on me and not feeling confident in my ability to communicate that I'm being bullied. That carried through till 5th grade when I made decent friends.
