After waiting for 3 hours to be seen (I understand the waiting and have no issue of that) Samantha Barscewski DVM walked into the room where my female 1 year old puppy started being vocal. Low growls because she was scared. Her words "Well I just started my shift, I'm not getting bit, from what you say she will need to go under and get a stitch under her eye. I will send a tech in to review a quote." That was it. She never examined nor looked at her. SHE DID NOTHING. She didn't offer to go get someone else to help with the exam, a muzzle, nor did she ask me to do anything different. Samantha Barscewski DVM as a vet in an emergency animal hospital was a terrible experience. I feel like so many things could have gone different, but she treated as a number without compassion, without professionalism, well she was in there for less than 5 minutes- so she treated us like nothing. Again, the support staff amazing, facilities clean & modern. I will just make sure that her and I will never cross paths again. My dog nor I deserved that treatment. Especially when there are wonderful vets and animal hospitals like Great Lakes Animal Hospital and Blue Pearl.

They took excellent care of our buddy's issues as I would expect. Best thing is we came in "last minute" and were able to be seen immediately. I was very thankful for our lil' guy to get the care he needed so quickly. Yes the bill was not a cheap one as he walked out with 4 medications and a shot to the ear but our dogs care is so worth it. A traumatic and unprofessional end-of-life experience…read more I am sharing this so no other family has to endure the trauma we experienced during our dog's final moments. We entrusted Dr. Peter Jackson with our goodbye, but what should have been a peaceful passing was handled with a shocking lack of empathy and professionalism. Before the procedure even began, the veterinarian was discussing his personal issues with his phone provider, showing zero respect for the gravity of the moment or our emotional state. We were never given a clear explanation of how the process would go; he simply said she would "get sleepy." We were never warned that a seizure could occur, leaving us completely blindsided and terrified during her last seconds. Furthermore, we were never asked about positioning or how we wanted to hold her. Once it was over, the doctor left and never re-entered the room. I was left sobbing with unanswered questions, feeling entirely abandoned in my grief. This was a failure of basic veterinary care and human compassion. We will never be able to unsee these final moments. If you are looking for a vet who will respect your pet and your family during their most vulnerable time, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

Dr. Denny did prescribe gabapentin and prozac, but along with that she let me know that rehoming or "loving euthanasia" was always an option... This was very off putting, as my cat is healthy and has a loving home, she just has anxiety, which is treatable. I did call to provide feedback on how inappropriate this was, especially during a first visit... and to let the office know we wouldn't be returning, the receptionist was very kind. Maybe other vets at the office offer more empathy, but feel it's important to share this experience. btw! after one dose of the gabapentin my beloved cat is already so much more relaxed and out and about in our home!

We had taken our animals to Cottonwood vet since we moved here in 2020. Last year our cat was…read morediagnosed with lymphoma and we had to put her down. In early February our dog developed a mass on his neck. Dr. Childress at Cottonwood said he had enlarged lymph nodes in his neck, suspected he had lymphoma, and aspirated the mass. The mass contained lymphocytes and lymphoblasts, and Dr. Childress confirmed lymphoma with this testing. He did not send the sample out for staging or do any other tests. Our dog also had no other symptoms. He started our lab on steroids to reduce the size of the lymph nodes to give him comfort and said we likely had a month or 2 with him until he succumbed to the disease. After a few days it dawned on me that no other labs were done initially. I took him back to Cottonwood at by that time he had elevated glucose and concern for pancreatitis. Granted, steroids may have been clouding the picture by this point. I asked for a second opinion so he was seen at Blue Pearl and ultimately diagnosed with diabetes. They saw no evidence for lymphoma or pancreatitis. I had asked Dr. Childress about the possibility of diabetes and asked if he could check his urine and he said the elevated glucose was from steroids. He did not test his urine. By the time he was seen at BP he was in ketosis and probably 3-4 days away from dying. Dr. Childress called me after the initial visit at BP and doubled down on his original diagnosis of lymphoma, disregarded the diabetes diagnosis completely and said "I think more is going on." I haven't been back to Cottonwood since. I established him at VCA Allendale and when I was explaining this history to the VCA vet she had me describe in detail and show her where the neck mass was and she said based on location and description it was likely an enlarged salivary gland and not enlarged nodes so he never should have been started on steroids in the first place. Giving steroids to an undiagnosed diabetic can have fatal consequences. Circle back to our cat also being diagnosed with lymphoma from Dr. Childress last year and now we're questioning if she also didn't have lymphoma since, as best we recall, she did not have enlarged nodes and never had anything aspirated to sample. She was losing weight despite eating, peeing more, and drinking more, all symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes. I recommend going elsewhere for your pets.
