David is the go to guy for Scotch and whiskey They have a huge selection and usually have tastings, they will let you try some scotches if you are looking for something but not quite sure what!! They have a huge wine cellar for people looking for expensive wines and actually have a bottles of scotch ranging from $3,000- 12,000. Last but not least they have an event calendar full of different events matching different foods with wine( even donuts) to scotch tastings, and Robbie burns day which I believe is in February! You can find the perfect booze for even the pickiest person, and the staff is well versed in their inventory. I always find something new here, something fun, and someONE fun! Everyone that works here is so friendly and willing to talk shop. If you're fleshing out your home bar, you can find any number of potions here that will get company talking and tapping their glasses for refills. It's official, I'm abandoning all desire to build my own fully stocked bar and wine cellar, I'm moving out of my house and moving into Willow Park Wines. They've got an incredible selection. Being as ginormous as they are, Willow Park never needed to make the choice whether they were going to carry the run of the mill garbage for the masses, or high end wine, craft beer, or should their strength be in whiskey? Their strength is everything. Just everything. For those stops when you need a bottle of Japanese single malt and watermelon Bacardi breezers: Willow Park. Actually, that's a lie. Nobody needs watermelon Bacardi Breezers. Nobody. But, say you're under the impression that you need Bacardi Breezers, the staff here would both be able to find you what you think you want, as well as point you in the direction of a much better and hopefully not watermelon flavoured alternative that will still suit your tastes. What's also cool about Willow Park is the community they grow with their event space in the basement. I've been to several events here - wine tastings, galas, scotch classes, and most recently a prosecco cocktails competition. So fun! They're also right by the train so you can make it home safe after. :) read more

It's probably bad to say I love a liquor store, but I do! When I lived in the area I would buy all my booze here, but since moving I generally don't go down this way, unless I'm on the hunt for a certain booze. Like lychee sake. I was given a generous GC when I bought my car and had been saving it to a wine run. Totally forget about it until New years, and decided to buy all the champagne for the people I was having over. The store is huge! Two levels of everything you can think of. I like the layout, it makes sense. Champagne is one area, hard alcohol by type and then wines, including specific ones on another level. I generally plan for a while in the store as there is so many options, which is good when you are looking for something new or going for your fave type. read more

I've always loved this store. They have an amazing selection of wines, and all things wine-related (Glasses, decanters, wine passports etc.). Their renovations have kept it looking fresh and beautiful, and the staff are as knowledgable as ever. "I'm looking for a Falanghina" "Sorry, we don't have that but...here's 6-7 different wines that will satisfy your palate in a similar way, and every bit of information you could possibly want to know about the grapes used in each one" Beautiful, love it. My experience here this last time turned into a bit of a beer-off with their beer specialist. It was kinda fun. He was impressed by my knowledge of MOA beer (an NZ brewery) and so for 15 minutes we had a "Yeah? Well have you had this beer...? No? How about this one...? This one they use these hops..this one they use these malts..Yeah? You've had that?" Unfortunately I was missing their Beer Night by like two days, but man it could have been fun to hang out with that guy a bit longer. He had all the beer knowledge. It was awesome. Anyway, if you're looking for something unique beer or wine wise - definitely look here. They have some amazing New Zealand craft beers stocked, Evil Twin brewing from Brooklyn (my Brooklyn fav!), Quebec beers I've never seen or heard of before. Tons to choose from. For me, this is a "last resort" destination, when searching for something obscure or hard to find. The selection is fantastic, the staff not so much. I've been there a handful of times, and every visit I'm met with snobbery or bafflingly off-base recommendations...that is if I can find anybody to help me in the first place. For example, one time I was simply stopping in to get the necessary ingredients for rum and cokes. I found the rum, but when I mistakenly asked one of the wine experts where I might find some cola, I was scoffed at and given a terse "no" before he simply walked away. Every visit has been a similar experience. I only go back if absolutely necessary. read more

I love Willow Park. No, not just the shopping centre ... when I say "Willow Park," I am usually specifically referring to one location: ...my favourite place in the city for beer, wine and liquor. With a large array of selection and a (usually) friendly, knowledgeable staff, this place is perfect if you are looking to get a unique "adult beverage" gift for someone, or if you just want to get your regular ol' drink on. The beer department is the best. Not only is the selection great, but the prices are fairly standard and the "beer dudes" are always willing to help you find something in your taste (or recommend their current personal favourites). The young & jolly, bearded "piratey" guy is the best. If he notices you are scoping the case, he loves to make small talk and share his love for (what MUST be his favourite subject ...) beer. Although I no longer live nearby, this place will always be my "regular" stop for when I want to find some good beer, wine or liquor. read more

One mammoth of a store. Boasting the largest selection of wines and spirits in Canada, LCBO has got NOTHIN' on this place. Hell, just ask any one of the 22 sommeliers on staff. (Yes, I did just say TWENTY-TWO). What impressed me most about this place, aside from their selection, is that they offer cool classes! Different chefs from around town teach classes on the different pairings between food and wine. Plus they also offer wine tasting classes, and who doesn't like to drink and learn?!?! Willow Park is terrible. For my wallet, that is. When confronted with such vast selection and such obvious decorative sex appeal, how does one refrain from partaking of the bountiful brews, the wonderful wines, the superfluous spirits? Guess what Riddler-era Jim Carrey. You don't. You pull out a few shekels and happily invest in a tasty treat/possible future headache. But guess what beer lovers. There's more. Hate disrespecting your body temperature by having to make crucial consumptive choices while indecisively languishing in the polar conditions of a walk-in fridge? As do I, as do I. So don't. Head over to Willow Park and choose from the cozy side of the refrigerator door. For those of us that don't subscribe to the "drunk = cheapest = best" mentality and therefore actually take time to pick out a beverage that either fits the occasion or is something untried, not having to freeze your nips off while you search is definitely a plus. Ignoring the wines and spirits in this review would be a mistake, although as various beer is my preference it sort of takes priority. However, Willow has no shortage of helpful staff to help you make wine choices for all types of occasions and preferences. Also, if you feel like learning more about the wines you are choosing from, check out Willow Park's Sommelier Program and the various wine education classes offered. Cool beans, right? WPWS has pretty much everything booze related, extensive beer fridges with European and Domestic beers and some Japanese. Wine from all the usuals, spirits likewise, but if Whisky is your tipple then they have the best selection I have seen to date, they have the cheaper blended whiskies but also if you have the cash they have some high end Malt whiskies some reaching $300. Well set out, staff are ok, haven't done the tasting classes but they seem to get busy on the nights there on. Location is good as the North Sea Fish Market is right next door and Cheese store next to them, Safeway round the corner, so you can do all your shopping for a wine and dine all in minutes of each other. Expect to pay slightly higher than Superstore, but worth it for the extra selection if you need it. read more

Wow, you must go here! A huge liquor store, with many beers, wines, etc that you won't find anywhere else. Usually sampling some products on the weekend, and staff are relatively helpful. You could spend a fortune in here - with some REALLY expensive bottles locked away in cabinets. I come to dreambuild. Saw a bottle of dom perignon for $180 - out of my price range. :( Would be nice to drink on new years... Buy a sixer of an import beer, or some 'made in Canada' suds, and you can't go wrong. I love this store. The selection is amazing. If you super expensive old scotch (they have a $25,000 bottle in a locked case) or a great bottle of wine....this place is awesome. Incredible selection of wine. And the renovation they did this year looks awesome! Love the new flooring. I'd say their prices are just a tad higher than some stores. Pretty tough to have cheap prices like Costco and Super Store liquor but at those places you don't get as much selection as willow park. Employees here are super knowledgable and courteous. After reading all the reviews, I made the trek down from Edmonton. I am impressed. Not only is the selection of everything remarkable, they had a sale on beer. The staff knew what they were talking about and after a few minutes I had no hesitation in trying everything and anything they recommended. What was especially notable was the large selection of craft beer and an equally impressive selection of Port. They also hold many functions including tastings and dinners. read more

Willow Park Wines & Spirits is a great shop with a huge space and ton of selection. I really like how they have spaced out the various products so that they are easy to find. Looking for expensive wines... Head to the cellar. Looking for sparkly wines there's a section for that as a matter of fact there is a section for everything including glass wear and accessories. One of my favorite things here however is their tastings. There is always a ton to choose from. Everything from educational tastings to fun and food. You can pick up the event catalogue at the store or look online at their website which makes buying yoyr tickets super easy. The events are always excellent. Never oversold there is lots of room to move around and enjoy all the sampling. Many of the events also include food and can be found for as little as $40 per ticket. I would definitely recommend checking them out! read more

A customer NOT complying with social distancing practices was VERY mouthy and rude to my wife and I. Even to the point of a one finger gesture. Upon mentioning this to a staff member, he LAUGHED at us very visibly and loudly. We asked to speak to the manager, who had trouble even acknowledging that there was a problem. He was of NO HELP. As the Staff member and the Manager seemed to know and be friends with the customer, they ignored us. Having been a customers for many years in your store, I believe your management should take social distancing a little more seriously. read more

Although Superstore's Liquor joint is right down the way, Im going to be a snob and admit that I like Willow Park better because its classier. They have staff on hand with tons of knowledge on all their products. I remember one time looking for a bottle of Scotch for a boyfriend. The staff scotch "connoisseur" was tied up, so they had a regular client, who I must say was the cutest older gentleman,help me and not only did he tell me the ENTIRE history of Scotch, my bf looooved what I ended up purchasing. On Thursdays they have samples of different drinks, and I have to admit not only have I gotten tipsy off these samples, it made me buy more wine than I initially intended to. GENIUS tactic. They have classes offered here, as well as events...and is yet another one stop shop, as they are right next to Sprinkbank Cheese, Papa Chocolat (Bernard Callebaut's new shop) Meez (organic, healthy to go food) Cobbs Bread, and Starbucks....EVIL... read more

This has to be my favorite store for fine wines or whatever my taste may prefer at the time. All of the staff are so helpful and friendly. And extremely knowledgeable about their products. And if they aren't quite sure about that particular bottle they well direct you to someone who is. I love that they have taste tests there as well. There is nothing worse than purchasing an expensive bottle and not enjoying it. I have been going there for years and not been let down yet. I highly recommend this place. And Michael definitely knows his scotch and whiskey. Ask him the difference on scotch and whiskey. Never knew this before talking to him. You are going to be surprised if you didn't know before. The most extensive collection of wines and spirits in the south, with good prices. Plenty of domestic and import beers (love my Hoegaarten), Hungarian and Italian wine, and some high end $300 bottles of liquor for those special occasions. Its proximity is a definite bonus when you need something for the evening, whether classy or ashy. read more

Hands down best liquor store in Calgary. Massive selection and very good prices. Best beer selection that I have seen, with lots of microbrews and imported beer. The only downside is that the parking lot and the inside of the store get pretty crowded, especially on Saturdays. However, the check-out process is usually pretty quick. read more

I've always heard good things about this place. They definitely have a great selection, but the service was severely lacking. There were several employees in the store wandering around, but none seemed to be able to help my friends and I. We were passed off to other employees THREE times. The first person we talked to was texting on her blackberry. The third person, who finally helped us, was drinking Red Bull while he was helping... Not sure what was going on in the store that day, but our service was shitty and completely ruined our experience. read more

I'm super disappointed in Willow Park. I used to love this place and have been a long time customer, attending many of their events and always purchasing my wine through them for years. I have been trying to contact them for 3 weeks, I have phoned, emailed, about an event we wanted to do there and zero response. Good selection of single malts and beers. Quite good selection of wines. Extremely bad customer service. The wine snob factor is very high here. I have purchased wines (bordeaux futures) at various wine stores in Calgary over the last number of years and I have had better customer service at every other wine store. The only reason to purchase fine wine here would be convenience and sometimes price point. If you are new to wine and are looking for friendly helpful staff, this is not the place to go. You can't beat the selection, but for those everyday purchases of regular product, you're MUCH better off going to Superstore, Costco or Olympia. I am very torn writing this review. I have shopped here many times over the years, as this store has an excellent selection of wine and exceptional selection of spirits, including some relatively obscure ones. I have purchased bulk for events, and the staff have been very knowledgeable and helpful in picking out wine (even giving a good deal for volume). I do find that some items are more expensive here - probably to offset the samples/tastings. I get it. That is fair, and a marginal increase in price is worth it for the service. However, lately, I have found the staff a little apathetic, and that I have to try too hard to find a staff member to help. Also, today, having forgotten my re-usable bag, I was upset that the only option at the till for my one bottle of wine was plastic. What happened to the paper bags, or having a reusable option, or gift bag available to buy? I am getting tired of stores that push nothing but plastic. Please consider more sustainable options. read more

Their sommelier, Mike Shaddock, is just plain ignorant. I was recently at a tasting event and he was constantly rambling loudly, on the sales floor, rudely interrupting the tasting seminar we paid for. He also dresses unprofessional and has no problem bashing his "unfavourite" wineries when asking for advice. Do yourself a favour and go to Crowfoot, they are professional and you can actually find quality advice. Plus, the cashiers are just plain miserable and and ungrateful for your patronage. I spent over there $100 recently (after the wine tasting seminar by Tommasi), and was not even given a simple thank you. I'm no longer shopping there. read more

Wine selection is great but the service and wines experts are poor to say the least. I had asked for an oxidative wine and the expert directed me to one. I was so excited I purchased 3 bottles but when I arrived home and tried one it was a reisling. I was very upset as it was $40 a bottle and I don't care for reisling. I did return the 2 unopened bottles and I had exchanged it for a prosecco. Since my husband grabbed the prosecco bottles I didn't notice the price. When I returned home I noticed on the bill that they only returned 1 bottle of reisling not both. I had to go back again to have them adjust the return to include the second bottle. read more
