We decided to stay in Wellington for two nights, which of course is no where near enough to do this city justice! The Willis Wellington Hotel seemed like a good option for being centrally located, including free breakfast, and being a good value. Check-in was easy with friendly desk staff. They have a large staircase to get to the lobby, so be prepared to carry your luggage.
The common areas include a large quiet lounge with TV, restrooms, and the restaurant, which is where breakfast is held in the morning. They have one small elevator, which can be an inconvenience. We also made use of the free luggage storage on our last day, which was appreciated. We had some issues with the friendliness of the day staff; things "aren't possible" but the morning staff was happy to answer the same requests.
The rooms are a bit dated. We couldn't make the heater work properly, so the room stayed damp and kind of cold. It was spacious however, with a nice sized bathroom too. The hotel as of our stay felt like it was in transition and not finished. One issue we had was early-morning road construction outside our window.
This hotel is within walking distance of Cuba Street, Te Aro area, and the harbor with museums, tourist sites, and gobs of restaurants. Despite the drawbacks, we would stay here again. read more
