As of 8/1/24 I learned that Willie's Service at 846 Main Street in South Farmingdale has been acquired by a new business owner known as JARP AUTO WORKS INC d/b/a Willie's Service. I would like to wish the new owner (s) best of luck and success. On 8/9/24 I scheduled an appointment for a NYS Inspection to my vehicle. I dropped off by 9:00 am and received a call for completion and the vehicle was ready for pick up by 10:45 am. Rob the service writer / scheduler was very accommodating from appointment scheduling thru service completion including direct phone communications during my service with status updates. Willy's repair and service has been my go to repair place for years. Rob is super friendly and explains all the repairs before we make a decision. Brought my vehicle in for an inspection yesterday. I dropped the vehicle off as I only live one block and can easily walk there for pickup. I received a call about an hour later with the news that the vehicle had failed inspection as it needs new rear tires which would be $350 per tire plus other fees. As I do all my own work on vehicles and I am very qualified as a mechanic, I denied the service. After that, he stated the vehicle needed an oil change, which I also said wasn't necessary as I just changed it personally recently and to ignore the old sticker on the window from a past oil change. He also said the oil was a quart low. After I did not want that done he stated the air filter needed to be changed, which now it seemed clear he just wanted to make extra money on something. I stated I would not be needed if that and I would come pick up the vehicle. After picking up the vehicle and bringing it home, I inspected the things he stated. Checked the oil and it was completely full, not a quart low as the guy in Willie's stated. I then grabbed my tool for testing tire tread wear, which was 7/32 to 8/32 across the entire width of both rear tires. Even though I could tell they looked fine, I still used the tool for an accurate measurement. I then went to NY DMV website at https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/new-york-state-vehicle-safetyemissions-inspection-program to check the tire requirements. The website states any major tread 2/32 or under is means for failure, well below the reading on my tires. From there I went to Mavis Tire on route 110 for an inspection without telling them what happened. The car passed without issue. I then asked if there was anything wrong with the rear tires which he stated no, they have plenty of life on them. Very interesting as that's what I had said. After leaving I returned to Willie's to tell them that I don't need a reinspection and new tires as it was already completed at Mavis where it passed the vehicle without issue. The guy at Willie's stated they must not know how to check tires at Mavis. So I asked him if he really thinks that Mavis Tire & Auto does not know when tires need to be replaced? Keep in mind their major sales are tires. The guy in Willie's said he guessed not and would have his tech come out to show me how he checks it as I had my tire tread wear tool with me to show how I even was able to verify them. His tech is putting the tool in the very outer edge of the tire in a smaller groove, and not a major groove as stated on the DMV website. As someone who has been working on my own vehicles and boats for decades, has a full mechanics shop at home with an elaborate set of tools, scanners, and testing equipment, I do have a lot of hands on experience and knowledge on major and minor repairs. I especially do not like when I come across mechanics who try to take advantage of customers. It is very easy for someone who does not know anything about vehicles to easily be taken advantage of, and unfortunately this station was caught red handed. I hope this review educates customers to always question what is being done, and don't necessarily have repairs done immediately. You can always pick up the vehicle and bring it somewhere else for repair or for a 2nd opinion. A station will give you a 10 day temporary inspection in the meantime by law and it's only $10 for the reinspection. In this case it saved me $700 -$900 for unnecessary repairs, although I had to pay another $37 for an inspection at Mavis, which Willie's did not reimburse me for. read more

I had a tire issue and called at 5:05 pm to see what time they closed. I was told 6pm then was told they start wrapping up for the day at 5. I was five minutes away from the shop. I said it's urgent and then was told come back the next day at 8 am when they open. I called another shop further away who also closed at six pm, but was accommodated and told come by ASAP. I've had several issues with my car since I got it, and I've always gone to willies. They never disappoint, I had a problem with my car yesterday and brought it there immediately. I also needed an oil change. I was told they were booked until Wednesday and they'll get to it when they can. I got a call an hour or two after saying everything was done and it's all set to pick up. I was extremely satisfied with the service and how they made time for me! They always go above and beyond to make sure you're safe & happy with the service. I highly recommend willie's service. I brought my car to Willies a week ago for a simple oil change. A couple hours later they called to inform me that there was a hose nearby that broke. They informed me that this was going bad and would have broken any day anyway. They charged me $400 for the oil change and hose that was not broken when i brought it in. I should have learned and chosen smarter. However, due to lack of time and convenience I went back to Willie's today for an inspection. As they had mentioned last time i was there i was going to need tires, i went to my local tire shop, Terry Brothers Tires, who've been in business for many decades and who i've been dealing with and had ZERO issues with ever. He replaced two tires, and checked moved the other two, and told me it was fine to pass inspection now. i went straight to Willie's, didn't mention i had already gone to a tire place, and low and behold, they informed me i needed another two tires. When i mentioned to my two brothers who i work with, they said same exact thing happened with them and Willie's this month. They brought it in for an inspection and of course had to replace the tires. But the kicker here is the way their employee treated me. Not only was he extremely aggressive and insulting, but when i informed him that i was going to leave a review of my experience, he told me, he knew where i worked, and even though he's NEVER been to my business or had any dealings with me outside of his repairs shop, threatened to go on social media and make up a story about my business in an attempt to sabotage my business. i have literally NEVER left a review on social media before. However, this experience and their response to it was so upsetting i felt the need to inform the public and if it saves one person from having a similar experience than i've done my part. Do not take your vehicle here for service. they are major swindlers. I took my family's ford truck here for inspection and they told me it failed because it needed 4 new tires (with 26k miles on it). I knew something was up because it sounded sketchy. The guy told me that because the truck is a 4WD, if I don't change the tires, it can damage the transmission. He tried to scare me and thought I would fall for his BS. can you imagine how much 4 new tires would cost? almost $800. I went to pick up the truck immediately and took it to a ford dealership, I was told the tires had 6-10k more miles left on them before they needed to be changed. the truck passed inspection. cost: $37. When I went back to complain, I was told Ford was wrong and the truck should never have passed inspection. then the guy threatened to call the cops on me for trespassing. they are liars and thieves. read more

DO NOT GO! We've been getting our cars serviced there for 4 years. Never a real issue - oil changes are a little high -- but we recently had an issue with one of our cars, turns out (through a second opinion of a close family friend) they were going to over charge us by $900! Unacceptable!!! Never going back. read more

The service part of this station is excellent, but do NOT buy from the gas part, because the people who run it are rip-off artists! Today, the man pumping gas said he didn't have the change to give me, and said "Come back in half an hour. Maybe I'll have it then." When I got the change from another person getting gas, he all but threw it in my face and refused to accept it and give me the dollar he owed me. Really upsetting. read more
