I've been going to Dr. Watkins for 10 years. This review will be mostly about the cleaning since I haven't had any major work that requires the dentist. First off, since this is Covid season, a lot of people who are concerned about aerosols can be at ease here. I had an appointment this week, and they have their safety protocols in place and well-organized! You sign a Covid consent form before arriving, call or text before being let it, and they take your temp when you enter. The hygiene and assistant are donned with PPE from head to toe quite literally. The chair is wrapped in plastic, and the operatory is equipped with filters to suck the air during the procedure. At the end of the visit, they rewrap the chair and wipe everything down. Seems like lots of extra work for everyone, but I definitely felt safe. Ok, on to the rest of the review... The practice is small with one doctor, one assistant, one hygienist, and one office manager who is also the receptionist. The staff is always very pleasant. Upon entering, you will be greeted with a warm and friendly hello by Desiree, the office manager. Don't be surprised if you get caught up in a conversation with her because she's that approachable and easy to talk to. Well, the whole office is, really. The assistant is also very friendly and gentle when taking x-rays. That is important to me because I have a major gag reflex. With the new digital x-rays, the "film" is even bigger. Alba handles it very well. So, I appreciate that very much!!! Also, nice that I haven't had to retake x-rays because the assistant didn't take it right the first time. The hygienist, Mina, is also excellent at what she does and is so, so gentle on the gums. I've had deep cleanings with her without anesthesia, and I didn't cry from the pain. She's also a dental hygiene instructor, so she's very knowledgeable! Dr. Watkins has only so far done my exam after cleanings, and my encounters with him have been brief but pleasant as well. I'm also glad that he doesn't cheat his patients like I've heard from other offices. Good ethics are practiced here! I definitely, highly recommend coming here! read more

Great dentist and office! Making an appointment was really easy. They have forms you can fill out online prior to your visit, so there was no waiting in the office. The appointment started right on time, and all COVID protocols were followed. They asked that I keep my mask on before and after, and had my gargle a cleansing saline solution ASAP. I had to have my x-rays taken, which they did very efficiently. The hygienist is friendly and did a very thorough job. I had a mild toothache, and Dr. Watkins was careful when examining the tooth. Everything about this office is unique. The rooms have views of the backyard which is filled with succulents. There is Giants memorabilia on the walls and in dr watkins office he has Beatles stuff and Janis Joplin art work and cute pictures of bears. When I was younger I would come here and get my teeth cleaned and I would get to get a small toy out of a treasure chest. Now that I'm an adult I don't do that but his rooms are comforting with the sky on the ceiling. It's as comfortable as you can get for dental work which is never fun but it always feels great to have it completed. I've come here for 20+ years and many of his clients can say the same because he does great work and is a compassionate and knowledgable dentist and he hires like minded individuals. read more

How can one person review an entire dental clinic? I am not a person who dislikes going to the dentist. In fact, I love it! All of the rooms have a view of a beautiful backyard garden. However if you are going to a dental practice merely for the view, perhaps you need to assess your priorities. The dentist is very knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. My dental hygienist is a rock star! What makes a dental hygienist a rock star you ask? Well, let's talk about being thorough! She spent a little over an hour cleaning my teeth. I have been to some hygienists who will scrape as much of the plaque away in a certain period of time as they can and then Move on if they feel unable to do so in timely matter. Not this rock star! Oh no! She made sure that my mouth was rid of a year's worth of plaque buildup. My teeth feel clean and wonderful! I am very grateful for this! Clean Teeth equals a healthy life. She is also a rock star because she is very informed and up-to-date on her techniques. She is friendly too! The offices are aesthetically pleasing and the staff maintains a hygienic practice is maintained. If you too struggle with bruxism and have a mouth guard, bring it with you and they will sterilize it for you- Free of charge. All staff is friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back... In the past, I had a very bad experience with a Dentist and it kept me from keeping up with my yearly dental work. I'm extremely hard to numb for even basic dental work, so you can imagine what caused my fear. (I've just recently been diagnosed with EDS and apparently many people with that can have issues getting fully numb with anesthesia, so my issue is not a common one) I did a lot of research to find a new dentist and the reviews I found for Dr Watkins made me hopeful. On my first visit, I expressed the experience and fear I had and he made me feel like he really listened. When it was time to do restorative work on my teeth, he did not start until we were both satisfied with my level of numbness. He was able to do the work and my fear about my dental visits subsided. During following dental work, he has even stopped in the middle of a procedure to give me an extra boost if needed. He's given me a level of office comfort I have not had since I was a child and I no longer have any fear of scheduling dental work. He has personally called me at home to check on me and I have direct access for after hours emergencies. His staff is wonderful, kind, and pleasant. The office is very clean & well maintained and I enjoy the succulent garden view each room has. Almost the whole back wall is window, so it's relaxing. read more

I still drive all the way to Saratoga, from San Francisco to get my dental work done by Dr. Watkins. He always gives you a variety of treatment options, and quickly explains the pros and cons of each, and is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He describes every step of what he's doing, and prepares you for what will happen next (ie: "This tip is a bit more abrasive, you'll feel a little more roughness but no more or less pain; I'll use it for 30-40 seconds" or "This needs to sit for 2 minutes to set-up, and then we'll rinse, and take one more imprint. We're 90% of the way there, only about 5-6 minutes left until we're done"). If you're fearful of the dentist, this is great because it helps you understand what's happening instead of feeling like things are just happening to you and you don't know how much more there is, or what's happening next -- with Dr. Watkins you ALWAYS know what's going on. And if you don't want to know, you can put on headphones and listen to music instead, or just ask him to tell less. Personally, I like knowing what's happening; it's a good distraction and also helps you realize each little step in the procedure is something you can handle. In terms of pain, he uses a really strong topical gel on your gums that really gets the numbness taken care of so the needle is honestly just a little pinch. I'm kindof a crybaby even about that, so he'll tell you to just raise your hand if you're uncomfortable/fearful or need a break at any time during getting numb or during the procedure. +1 because he also has lots of autographed SF Giants memorabilia hanging in the office! read more

Dr. Watkins makes you feel very relaxed as he is super calm. His staff are wonderful as well and he is very skilled with needle and the drill. A true artist with teeth. He also gets it when you try to explain the issues you are having with your teeth. The office is nicely decorated and there are rooms, not partitions so I don't have to see the other patients getting worked on which is nice. I live in the Central Valley and still drive in to Saratoga to see him for major issues. I wouldnt go anywhere else and havent for the last 20 years. read more

I went to Dr. Watkins for a cleaning to have my remaining wisdom tooth extracted. He numbed my mouth around the tooth, then extracted it quickly and easily. I went to Dr. Watkins for a cleaning and a filling. He was very gentle with the injection of novocaine and I was numb quickly. He was patient and soft spoken and explained everything he was doing. My whole family has been coming here since the 90's, including me. When I got married and had my own insurance I tried going other places but eventually came back to Dr. Watkins because he is the best. His office is awesome too. Nice clean rooms overlooking his private little garden. The staff has been there for years and have always been beyond friendly. Dr. Watkins is not only the most professional dentist that I have been to, but the most comfortable as well.
