After years of coming here, I've decided to change my PCP for several reasons. First, about 6…read moremonths ago while in the waiting room, one of girls at the front desk whined and cried about wanting to eat her snack. She was pregnant and felt like she was gaining too much weight. Valid. However, she carried on for at least 20 minutes and wasn't quiet about it. I found it to be very unprofessional and extremely annoying. Second, I donate blood regularly. For decades I wasn't able to because I was in Europe when mad cow disease was a major concern. My doctor asked why I donated blood. She told me they don't need it or use it. I was shocked she said that but, I still donate blood. Third, I was prescribed a very low dose of a medication typically used to lower blood pressure. My BP is great but, my kidney function wasn't where it should be and the med would help. I took the med for about 2-3 months. A side effect of the med is a cough. My doctor said she told me it was a possible side effect. I don't remember that but, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. The cough I had was all day and through the night. It was 24/7. I had to have water with me at all times to help me through the coughing fits. My eyes watered so bad each time that my mascara ran every time. I was the coughing throughout the night and not sleeping well. It was disrupting my life. I couldn't handle it any more. I sent a message through the portal to see if I could change the med. I did mention maybe the cough was due to allergies, which I didn't believe it was but, I could be wrong. I used the portal because this wasn't an emergency. The portal stated replies would be sent within 48 hours. After a week with no response, I resent the message. TWO WEEKS later I received a response. So, it was a total of THREE WEEKS later that I finally heard back. The response was the side effect was mentioned. Again, I don't remember that but, she probably did. However, she didn't think the medication was the reason for the cough because it was such a low dose and that it probably was allergies. Another med would cost hundreds if my insurance didn't cover it. Valid. She hesitated to have me stop because my kidney function is now normal. Valid but, wow. I decided to look at the reviews for the office and the doctor and found both to be mostly negative. I finally made the decision to go through the hassle of changing my PCP. She wanted me to stop the med for a month and start taking it again. I did stop taking the med and my cough went away. I didn't start taking it again. Here I am 6 months later and seeing a new PCP. It's a much smaller office and my wait time is next to nothing. I never spoke negatively of my previous doctor and she didn't ask me why I changed. She was very attentive and she addressed all of my concerns. She checked my kidney function and it is still normal. I don't like changing doctors and I didn't take the decision lightly. I contemplated it for a long time before I made the change. I'm very happy with my choice.

I am really appreciative because Holland is inquisitive and you can sense when that comes from a place of genuine concern. I've also been seen by Starnes and had no issues. I use the patient portal to schedule appointments and message for refill requests, and they're prompt and responsive. It's nice to have a doctor's office I trust. It's a hard field to be in, and it's really appreciated when you can tell the staff is welcoming and kind. Appreciate yall.

A month or two ago I received a letter in the mail that Dr. Mayfield is retiring. Bummer, I liked…read morethis guy. Since that letter, two things have happened: My mail order prescription expired, and my annual physical came due. Well, to make a long story short, it took several go-arounds to get a new 30 day prescription filled, not 90, like I had (low-dosage statin drug). It got sorted, so all is well. I was expecting to meet and see the new doc, Jeniffier Mahand, M.D. Instead I saw Jennifer Rodges, FNP-C (I think that means PA, Physicians Assistant). I liked Jennifer. She was efficient and listened. Since nothing is really off, next step was some biometrics on bodily fluids. Since a new doc is on board, the clinic is not doing the draws/collections yet. So I was given an order for Quest Diagnostics (closest is in the Tom Thumb at Rufe Snow and 1709). This was actually a good thing, as I forgot to fast. So I'm resetting my rating a bit, until I can judge how the place, without Dr. Mayfield, runs. Don't take this as a bad thing, but without more data, I need a reset. Bottom line: Big fan of the location, as I ride my bike there. Location is on the slowly growing bike/hike path that winds through Keller.
