However whoever handles the billing was very rude whenever I called a month later to dispute an item that was billed and not covered by insurance. My insurance company covers a certain type of x-ray (bitewing) and they gave me another type when I went in for my cleaning. When I went in for the cleaning I told the receptionist (a very sweet older woman) that I get an annual cleaning, exam, and xray covered by my insurance company. A month later, I received a bill from my insurance company saying they would not cover the x rays since they were not the bitewing kind. I called the dentist office to ask why I wasn't told that type of x ray would not be covered prior to taking them, I was told by the billing person that it's my responsibility to call the insurance company first and ask what type of x ray is covered and what is not and to tell the dentist. This was the first time i've ever heard of this as I've never had to call an insurance company to find out this type of information beforehand. Having no medical background I would assume someone at the dentist office should advise me of the various types of xrays they have and what would and would not be covered prior to taking them. The insurance paid out $161 for my cleaning and I ended up having to pay $50 for the xrays out of pocket.

When I switched dentist due to my bad experience, Dr. Major and his staff took extreme care of us! They treated my case with delicacy, and I learned to trust a dentist again! Let's be real; I trust my dentist, Dr. Major! He's compassionate, trustworthy, professional, precise, intelligent, punctual, super friendly, and family-oriented. The ladies (Kim, Beth, & Tina) are gems! They're incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, sweet, intelligent, professional, and all of them have killer smiles! Having a small, sensitive mouth, I really appreciated that getting a cleaning from them wasn't painful like other dentists I've been to. So, why 3 stars?? The reason I'm no longer a patient is due solely to their front desk/billing person, Kim. The first time she screwed up my billing, I assumed it was an honest mistake. I paid in office, then received a bill a month later, my partner had a cleaning that week so he tried to pay it while he was there and told there was no outstanding balance, but then we received another bill the following month. Oh, and you can't pay it online. Then I needed some work done, and it had to be appealed with my insurance. No problem, right? Wrong! First Kim needed ME to find the correct billing code for her, then I had to give her the appeal form Twice. The insurance told me they were sending the check to them, and I told her to let me know if they didn't get it. She let me know, not with a call or email, nope, with a late bill THREE months later! I called her again and asked her to put the bill on hold while I spoke to the insurance, which she agreed to, and a WEEK later when I went in for my cleaning she yelled at me across the lobby (in front of other patients) that she needed payment today and demanded I call my insurance in front of her if I wasn't going to pay her. Then, she came in during my cleaning to further discuss my bill. My hygienist let the dentist know how upset I was and he must have spoke with her, because she did apologize...by saying that she was "sorry but just doing her job" and that she "was doing me a favor to file it with my insurance." During the pandemic, I received 2 bills from them. Given that we've been advised dentists were only open for emergencies and they don't have a way to pay online, we assumed they were closed. Nope, had to go in and pay in person (or send a check...who has checks or can pay with their FSA/HSA with a check??), because I just wanted to be done with her. Given that she's been there 14 years I don't see her going anywhere anytime soon, but I won't be back.

I was told I would be mailed the forms I needed to complete. Up until three days before my appointment I had not yet received the appropriate forms. I'm a smart guy so I checked their website and sure enough there was a front and back form to download and fill out. Lose a star but gain back half for having a website with forms. On my appointment day and time I arrived early and was greeted by cranked up country music. Lose two full stars! Why in the world are you subjecting patients to loud country music! I thought things were cooking in a good way. I met with the doctor, and we went over the plans of what cavities I needed to have fixed and the cleaning as well. She seemed nice, but rushed and quick. The chairs also are not in their own private space its all together, so that is not my favorite either. The front desk people have a hard job. I get it, customers and clients are just trying to make sure that they are getting the right insurance billed and collecting the right money. Anyway, I had to change something last minute, and let me say, normally I think that sometimes that is asking a lot, but other times I think that it's doable and not with a certain attitude about it. I did share that I have a disability that is not always seen from an outisder nebver the less I help brige that with my letter from my doctor and me. I had one hygienist who was really good with me. She helps make the experiences so good that I share them with them, and that if I could have her again, that would be great. Well, they never had me with her; instead, I was with others who probably never read my letter. The times that I had to get cavities filled, it was really scary and hard; there were lots of butterflies and tears. I have always had tears, and in my last office, my dentist and the hygienist were amazing; they would go above and beyond to help me. Here, nothing, just kept going and then sat in the chair, and then moved on. I was just a patient here, and one that most likely was labeled a challenge. I finally was done walking out of the office with tears each time. I have found a new office that welcomes disabilities and does a great job of comforting and caring for each person's life. They are family and not just a patient. This might be a great option for someone, but not for me. I want a place where you are welcomed for you diffenreces or not, and where being scared or nervous is not a bother, but instead they take the extra time to help make it a better experience.
