Although to tell you the truth, I could have easily fallen asleep in that chair-one of the most comfortable chairs on the planet, I am sure. I have been a patient since 2008. I have moved around the country a lot for work - 9 states- and Dr. Benjamin and her team are the best that I have found in the U.S. I left the Bay Area in 2013 but Dr. Benjamin allowed me to continue to be a patient and I've traveled back twice a year for dental care except during Covid. I know that there are a lot of great people-and dentists- out there but Marina Tooth Fairy is right for me. I trust Dr. Benjamin. If you are looking for a wonderful team that you can trust and a place where you will feel comfortable, I strongly recommend making an appointment. I am confident that you won't want to go anywhere else once you have been there.

Nightmare. Run. Where do I start? Had significant dental work done throughout my life,…read moreunfortunately, as I grind my teeth (yes, I wear a mouthguard at night)..had to get tons of root canals, implants and crowns. So when I needed two new implant crowns, what I thought was a routine procedure, was anything but. Took 3 tries to get two crowns to look and fit properly. The first time it looked like two fangs...thankfully, I saw this before driving away. It was like I was getting treatment at a dental training school. This will get blamed on my bite, but no other crown, even a recent one, required three attempts because of my bite. Even worse, a healthy crown I had placed years ago that was literally next to the 2 new crowns Marina placed, broke clean off that night. Coincidence? Logic and common sense would obviously suggest a highly likely correlation to the 2 new crowns placed 5 hours prior and my existing crown breaking clean off. So when I finally was able to speak with Dr. Benjamin, I requested they do the ethical thing and help cover some of the 8K I'll now need to shell out to get an extraction, implant and crown on a missing front tooth. Marina Dental took zero accountability for this 6 month process I'm. Frustrated, I spoke to Dr. Benjamin and said I needed to get a second opinion on their crowns breaking an existing crown. Spent $400 out of pocket for the original surgeon to provide me his feedback on the roll the two new implants Dr. Benjamin, regardless of how many times I tried to schedule time to discuss. Super professional. Wasted $400. When I asked her husband (COO), who they wanted me to deal with moving forward, it was nearly met with laughter. Here's the kicker. The bill Marina Dental sent me for the one procedure (two crowns) does not include two other payments I had already made to them. My credit card statement clearly shows 3 separate charges, but they claim they have no record of two other payments I already made. When I asked Marina to please update my balance based of the undeniable credit card statement I shared with them. Instead of updating the invoice to the correct amount, I was told I had 30 days to pay the over-billed invoice they would send to collections agency. Even with that proof showing their bill was inflated by $800, I was told their invoice is correct, regardless of the blatant over-billing (by nearly $1K). When I got pushed to Dr. Benjamin's husband, their COO, to discuss them taking some financial responsibility for the crown that coincidentally broke within 5 hours of the crowns' placement. In fact, when I shared a pic of the fangs they gave me, I could not believe they let me walk out looking like this. His response was, 'You didn't look in the mirror before you left?? As though it was my fault I had two fangs. Gaslighting at its finest....plenty of honest, ethical dentists out there. BTW, I am sure if there is a reply, I'll get a 'we have no record of you as a patient'. Or gaslighting full throttle.

I have been visiting Dr. Fiorella Potesta-Knoll for some years now. She is very professional,…read morecaring and friendly person. My experience with her and the whole staff has been extremely positive. I do highly recommend Dr. Potesta-Knoll.

Summary: Two…read moreunsuccessful attempts to make one crown. Traumatization and damage to the underlying tooth structure. Two visits to another prosthodontist to prove to Dr. Postesta-Knoll that both crowns were defective. Partial refund. The details of my entire experience are as follows: I saw Dr. Potesta-Knoll in May of 2025 and she made a new crown for me. After I left her office I had pain and discomfort to the extent that I was unable to chew on that side and had a lot of sensitivity with respect to hot and cold. I mistakenly assumed that this would go away quickly and a few days later I left for three months out of the country Unfortunately I had to endure this pain and discomfort for over three months. When I got back in August the discomfort had finally abated, but I noticed there was a lot of space between the new crown and the adjacent tooth and that food was gathering there in a way it hadn't prior to the new crown. I made an appointment with Dr. Potesta-Knoll to express my concern about the excessive amount of space between the two teeth. At this second appointment I don't know what she did other than remove some material from the tooth. When I got home I realized that it made no sense that taking off material could close the gap between the new crown and the adjacent tooth. At this point I was disconcerted enough that I made an appointment with a very experienced and highly regarded prosthodontist at 450 Sutter Street. During my first appointment he observed that not only was the crown too far apart from the adjacent tooth, there was also a ledge on the crown that made the interface between the crown and gum irregular. He sent me an email with these observations and I took it to Dr. Potesta-Knoll. She didn't seem particularly happy when she read it, but she redid the crown. Before she did the second crown I confirmed with her his observations about the "ledge" and excessive distance between the crown and the adjacent tooth, as I wanted to make sure both problems were resolved when she did re-did the crown that day. After the numbing medication wore off it felt to me that the new crown was still too far away from the adjacent tooth. I made a second appointment with the other prosthodontist and he observed that there was no longer a ledge on the crown, but that the distance between the new crown and adjacent tooth was still too much. I then forwarded his email to me about the second crown still being too far from the adjacent tooth to Dr. Potesta-Knoll's office. I received the following response from their office, "Wow, even after the second crown he feels the contact is open. It was closed when you left our office per Dr. Potesta." Not surprisingly I found the statement absurd. I'm clearly not a dentist, but don't see any way how the crown could've magically moved after I left their office. At this point I realized that there was no way I was going to trust her to do the crown properly a third time and so I sent an email requesting a refund. They requested that I send yet another narrative from the other prosthodontist stating the ongoing problem with the distance between the crown and the adjacent tooth. I did this and received an email saying they would be issuing me a refund. The good news is that I got a refund ($2,300). The bad news is that I was originally charged $3,135 for the one visit where she did the first crown. I sent them yet another email politely inquiring why I only received $2,300 and they said the $835 ($3,135-$2,300) was for an exam, a "core buildup" and x-rays. I sent them another email saying I would be happy to pay for the x-rays, but felt that it was unfair to be charged for an exam and "core buildup" when in fact I received absolutely no benefit whatsoever from my entire interaction with Dr. Potesta-Knoll. Not only did I not have any benefit from anything with the exception of the x-rays, but had to endure three months of discomfort following her doing the first crown because she traumatized the underlying tooth structure. Additionally I had the added cost and inconvenience of seeing the other prosthodontist three times to deal with this dental nightmare. Receiving a partial refund is a little like taking your car to have it repaired and not only it not being repaired properly, but the shop also damaging it. In order to get a refund they require two more emails from another shop detailing what was wrong (as well as my having to pay the other shop). When they do get the second email they deduct money for their "evaluation" and for work that provided absolutely no benefit.
