6 stars! I won't go anywhere else. I have really curly hair that no one knows what to do with. Shannon was absolutely wonderful and I left feeling like a new woman! She definitely knows curls - particularly that everyone's are different and you have to experiment and learn what works. I've never had anyone try different products on my hair and really pay attention to what their impact. She confirmed what I've known for years but others scoff at: that oil actually dries out my hair. As icing on the cake, the price was very reasonable and I love their online scheduling. My work days get busy and it's hard to call during business hours. read more

I just moved to the area and was looking for a new hairstylist. I came across this salon from their great reviews on Yelp and after looking into their stylists' profiles, I believed they could provide a nice haircut. I have wavy/curly hair and some people don't know how to cut and shape curlier hair. Shannon blew me away with her techniques and how she took my long hair from blah and boring to short and sexy! I can't wait for my hair to grow out so I can see her again! The salon is super cute and cozy and the energy that Shannon and the stylists share is incredible. I've easily paid over $200 for a adequate cut and she blew me away with a cut for under $100! read more

William Dean's Salon - Post-haircut - Hair Stylists Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

Super nice couple. Bad haircut, though. I loved everything about the inside of the salon, from how it was decorated to the set up. I went in with an inspo picture, but he told me he had an idea of what he wanted to do. I was told that I had wavy hair, even though I have never once styled it that way. I just don't like how he used a straight razor over my whole head and never used the scissors. The next day, after I showered, there were so many pieces that were longer than the others and my hair was so uneven. I ended up having to go get it fixed somewhere else. Like I said, I loved the people in there so much. But not a haircut like that at that price. read more

IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR COME HERE, SHANNON IS AMAZING! Look. Messed up my curly hair with some bleach fried off ends everything breaking apart trying to get the green out of my hair. Didn't work. I'll let the photos do the talking. Anyway as soon as you walk in you're greeted the place gives off an amazing vibe. People singing, talking having a great time! Everyone is so so so nice! Shannon has an amazing personality that so nice you feel like you've already been friends with her. Even better she's an amazing worker. She was so delicate with my hair. Beginning to end she told me honestly what the outcome would be with my hair and what we are trying to achieve. I'm happy I didn't have to shave off my head thank goodness but I'd didn't expect for my hair to have moisture again. This is the only salon I shall go to for my hair. read more

Mr. Dean was kind enough to work me in on a Friday when I'd be in town (I live 1.5 hrs away). I had searched high and low for someone who could cut curly hair. I read reviews for everyone in Lexington, Richmond, and Louisville and decided that if Mr Dean could see me, it must be the Lord's will. it was! For the FIRST time in my life, I left with a head of curly hair that looked good. And it's continued to look good. As he cut, he explained my curl pattern and how the cut would maximize it. With the right products, my hair looks better than ever. It's worth the drive every few months to feel good about my hair every day! read more

I came for a haircut and style but got this instead. I even showed him a picture. I probably won't be coming back here. Too expensive for nothing. Cost me $85 for this. Wtf. I seriously i am at disbelief. Maybe this is why he gave me the appointment at 7 pm so he could make some money and not try...? Anyway I'm going back to my old salon. I can't. I can literally do a better job with a straightener and blow dryer. I want to cry. I left a decent tip even though he did NOT deserve it. He even said it looked good. It does not. And he didn't even clean up after his last client. Hair everywhere. read more

Honestly received the WORST haircut ever. Waiting a month to go somewhere else to get it fixed....took 2 inches off and screwed up a bob. Completely dismayed. Too many other talented authentic folks in Louisville to ever go here again read more

I went to William Deans salon today and let me tell you they make you feel right at home here. This is the best haircut I have gotten since I can remember getting a haircut last. My hair feels so happy and healthy and Bill and his wife are just so sweet and helpful not to mention THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR DOING! It has always been so hard for me to find anyone that is good with my hair and they took care of me today. Already have my follow up appointment honestly I wish I would've found them sooner. Because she gave my hair life. read more

I began going to William Dean Salon in April (about) 2018. I liked the cut, but Bill wanted to do his own ideas on what my color should be instead of what I wanted it to be. The most concerned complaint was when I needed an appointment for a very important function and I phoned repeatedly and left my number and no one returned botherd to return my phone calls. I didn't mind the $100.00 charge for a cut, and I definitely left a substantial gratuity. He has of this date, from which has been about 3 weeks of attempting to get a haircut never bothered to return my calls. I have a better Hairdresser now and have no communication problems. So Bill, "You are fired? If you would like reliability do not come here! read more

be very careful when you book an appointment from this salon. I booked an appointment with Lauren for Saturday morning at 10am. I am from out of town and did not know the Saturday of my appointment was the Kentucky Derby day. I booked at least 3-4 weeks in advance. the afternoon BEFORE my appointment, while I am at work, Lauren messages me telling me she can not get to & from work because of road closures. she does not know how to keep my appointment. I fail to see how this is my problem I am told by her that I was "being dramatic" and "she did not want to do my hair". how unprofessional and rude. if you live in Louisville, why book appointments on days you do not want to work during such big events? I have waited so very long to have my hair cut & colored - I was so very disappointed by the way I was treated. I wanted my hair done for my son's high school graduation and my vacation to Florida I called the owners - they were apologetic but the damage has been done. Be careful. I'm heartbroken. read more

I have been living in KY for 2 years and never came across a reliable review for a curly hair stylist. My hair only looked good when wet. I tried every single trick on the book and it looked good just sometimes. When I went to sleep, I woke up with something on my head but definitely not curls! I read plenty of reviews and decided to put my faith on William Deans' salon. I was not disappointed!!!! Shannon put her glorious hands on my head and put her magic to work!! I went in yesterday but wrote the review today because I wanted to sleep on it and see how I woke up. Woke up as fabulous as I walked out yesterday from the salon!! I'm thankfull and pleased. The atmosphere, the friendliness, the gentleness; everything was perfect. My expectations were totally fulfilled and a little more. I spoke and Shannon listened! She made something that no one could ever do on my head, make my curly hair beautiful, hydrated and last. She explained how to take care of my hair, she styled them one by one and made necessary trim to each! read more

I cannot day enough good things about Bill and Shannon. This was my first time there and i called this morning (on a Monday) at about 11:30am and asked for an emergency appointment as I used a "purple shampoo" that DYED my hair purple (not normally a big deal, I just have a wedding in a week that I need to be blonde for). Not only did Bill hang around for me to get off work at 5pm and come over, he went through everything we could do in one sitting to safely get the purple out. The pictures speak for themselves. Although it's still a little greenish and purple, he gave me some shampoo to help get the color out further and scheduled me to come in later this week for some touch ups to take me back to the white blonde I am. I am so pleased I could hug them. Truly generous people and I will definitely be using them as my normal salon from here on out read more

I went here three times. The first time Bill cut my hair pretty well, so I came back. Shannon cut my hair amazingly the next time, which is why I feel so bad writing this review. I would recommend Shannon. Next time Bill cut my hair and he cut off 4 inches and chopped random spots. It has been a year now and my hair has almost recovered, but he recently did the same thing to my mom's hair. Now I'm terrified to get my hair cut anywhere. read more

It figures that as soon as I'm moving away from a city, I find the perfect hair stylist. I've been trying different salons on and off over the years during my time in Louisville, and have never been that satisfied with my experience. Bill broke that trend, though. William Dean's Salon is conveniently located on Bardstown Road in the Highlands. I walked there from my apartment. It's a great space--very open and comfortable. Bill was incredibly friendly and accommodating. He's a GREAT listener (this is such an important trait when it comes to cutting hair), and gave my hair exactly what it needed. I have really fine and thin hair. This makes it difficult to ever get a haircut that isn't really boring and mom-ish. Usually, people just cut it as one length, claiming it makes it look thicker. I was so bored by this, and wanted something at least a little exciting. Bill gave me some fun choppy layers, giving my hair movement and bounce. I loved it! He also put in some subtle blonde highlights that weren't too bright, but still brightened it up a bit. I highly recommend this spot! It isn't cheap, but I'm willing to pay whatever it takes as long as I'm happy with the result. read more

As a guy with curly hair who never thought I'd get a good haircut, or care to visit a place twice--I think I'm here to stay. Try it once and find out: great talks, great cuts, and some true artists in the least pretentious sense of the word. I highly doubt you'll regret it! read more

Gave me a fantastic haircut and I went in there looking like a hobo. Bill was a great conversation, and the difference between these people and great clips is enormous. Highly recommend this salon read more

Bill is great! He is fun and funny and he cuts and colors my hair quickly! He knew how my hair would react to the color, which is better than any other colorist I've been to. They are open to working with every hair and every hair style. The studio is conveniently located in the Highlands. You have no good excuse to not try them! I don't know how I found him but I'm happy I did! read more

New to the area and was in search of a great cut and color in a relaxed and accommodating setting. Perused the web, including YELP, for reviews and it was clear that William Dean's was the place to try. Left a message for an appointment and I received a call back in less than 15 minutes on a Sunday evening no less. A husband and wife team who operate the salon out of the first floor of their home on Bardstown Road in the Highlands. Was greeted by their beautiful and friendly Akita and treated to the best haircut and Color that I can honestly say I have ever received. The cost was reasonable, the services first rate and the conversation lively. If you are in search of the best ---look no further. read more

This place is the real deal. Shannon Dean will be my hair guru for life. I have very curly hair and she knows how to cut it and care for it. This place is educated about hair, care about the clients, and their craft. She gave me recommendations but wasn't at all pushy with ideas. Also there was no product pushing at all! I enjoyed that she explained each step before as she cut my hair. I really cant say enough to encourage you to give this place a try. My 20 year salon search is over. I found my hair a BFF! read more

Bill is awesome! I had a cut & color at another salon that really messed things up. I gave my hair a few weeks to recover then sent an appointment request via Yelp given their high rate. Bill immediately called me back, got me in that day, and had me out the door with a style I loved. The consult was excellent and Bill is a great listener. He provided some feedback and made sure he understood what I wanted and set expectations on the outcome. He worked quickly, got a great cut & color, and the price was very affordable. I would highly recommend William Dean Salon and specifically the owner, Bill. High professional and they care about you. read more

I saw a great review about Shannon's artistry with curly hair on Instagram, so being a curly haired gal, I needed to see what this was all about. You see, finding a curly-hair specialist is akin to discovering a unicorn in a pot of leprechaun gold. Shannon was quick to get me in for a shape up of my medium curly locks. The atmosphere is so fun, and it is clear that they approach hair as art. Shannon put on music to inspire her, all while their sweetheart Akita named Xavier looked on. First off, Shannon did a thorough assessment of what products I was using and the nature of my hair. I try to take good care of my hair, and it's mostly healthy, so she suggested an organic coconut oil regimen to add to my daily routine. After washing my hair, she dried it and cut it while dry. This is so important!!!! I've never had a stylist shape my hair according to how the curls lie, and that made all of the freaking difference! She then advised me on styling products. I felt that Shannon really gave me great advice and she spent a ton of time with me...this is no 30-minute speed haircut, which I appreciate. My only criticism was styling...and this isn't unique to this salon. Most stylists spend too much time with drying and handling my hair, and it inevitably ends up frizzing out and looking, well, not how I would prefer. I also went way too short in length and will be happy to see some growth in the coming weeks. If you have curly locks, this place is a gem. Shannon is a wonderful person with a clear passion for her career. read more

I was really impressed with my experience. Easy to book online, quality conversation, nice vibe and a wonderful haircut. Just what I needed.

I just moved to Louisville and was looking for a place to get my hair done. Saw the great reviews on yelp and figured I would try this place! The reviews do not disappoint! Shannon is the best hair stylist I've ever been to. She is so wonderful and sweet. She cares so much about her clients. I used to dread going to get my hair cut but now I enjoy it. I love looking at all the beautiful decorations in there. They have parking on the side so if you are worried about trying to find parking in the highlands you will have no problem. My hair was extremely dry and broken from years of having to wear my hair up. It has been completely transformed, looks so healthy and beautiful. read more

This place is amazing! William was absolutely wonderful to me, very accommodating and friendly. I came to him with a bad hair color issue from a previous stylist. I told him i wanted to get a partial highlight color, he explained in detail what steps he would take to fix my hair to get it where i wanted it. The outcome was so much way better than when i walked in the door. I am very grateful to him.. finally i found my new favorite salon in Louisville. read more

I followed Echo here, and I love the place. She does a GREAT job, and I always walk away feeling like I look better than I ever have in my life. Today, she gets a double, me and my wife, for coloring, and cuts. I can't wait! Edit: Echo is no longer there. I give them a second star because they use LED lights for energy efficiency, but Echo was the draw. Edit Edit: Changing my rating. I had given this business a low rating due to my frustration at my favorite hair dresser moving. The Yelp system has limitations... you rate a building, not individual employees. And I was expressing my frustration poorly. There is nothing wrong with William Deans. I do like that touch of environmental consciousness that puts in LED lights. But I followed Echo. read more

Since moving up to Louisville, it was hard finding someone that knew how to cut my hair. Not a lot of folks have experience with asian hair. But fret not, Bill is more than experienced. Honestly the best hair cut I have every had! As a curly girl, it's hard to find someone who not only know the difference between how to handle straight and curly hair , but act on it! Not only is the cut amazing the atmosphere and attention you receive as soon as you walk through the door is amazing. I had never been there before but there was no awkwardness, and to top it all off the namesake and owner was not only visible, but was my stylist! For as long as it's feasible they have my business! I enjoyed my experience at William Dean Salon! I called and received a same-day cut and color appointment, which is always great with my whacky schedule. Bill Dean is a genius! I went in with unhealthy, long, thick hair, and came out with healthy, layered, light and long locks!! I will never go another place as long as I live in Louisville. Found my tribe and absolutely loved my first visit and first cut! Thanks, William.

I grew my hair out for the longest time so that it would be easy to style and be creative with the cut. My experience was fine, the hair dressers were nice and was surprised he used a "layering technique " but I trusted him from the reviews. But I realize when I home that they cut too many layers, the back portion of my hair is not cut into any layers and is one length. The top part is cut into too many layers. I am disappointed with my cut, spent a lot of money, and want my old hair back. read more

I went in to see Shannon for the first time. I asked for Bill, but he said he was booked and had me see Shannon. At first, she was wonderful talking all about my curly hair and how to treat it. She was very knowledgable, however I've been living with it for a very long time and didn't need so much education. She did pamper me at the shampoo bowl. This was the very first time I felt overpampered. The appointment went entirely too long. I was worn out. I just went in for a hair cut. I loved how she cut my curly hair and was so elated that I finally thought I had found a good one. Boy, was I wrong. She had many interrruptions and I was getting irritated. They are not inexpensive and that time is MY time. When I politely said something to her, she blew up at me. Basically, this was the way it is, she has plenty of clients and her arrogance just kept growing. She said she was not going to cut my hair and she asked me to leave!! Watch out for stylists who have let their expertise go to their heads and forget that clients are who keep them in business! Wow! What a nightmare! read more

Very cute little place they have, easy to find and plenty of parking. Nice aesthetic feel, and everyone in the salon was very friendly. I went in to get my roots highlighted and William took care of me. Price was reasonable and a student discount was available. read more
