The Olive Branch

Therefore this review won't include any comment on the food served here. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. We were seated in the cellar, at a table for 6 very close to the door, which was really distracting as people often rushed past in very close proximity to some of us. When taking our food orders, the server then forgot to ask one party member for their order. They didn't apologise when we pointed this out. I didn't get the sense that the server was wanting to be there at all, he interacted very minimally with us. It then took 70 minutes from being seated to receiving our food. We received no apology for the wait. They had also made a further mistake with somebody's order, bringing two of the same sides when only one was requested (server had written the side as "Z. -product name-", which was misinterpreted by the kitchen staff as "2 -produce name-"). We sent this back immediately. Nobody came to ask us how our food was. I could hear other tables around us also complaining about the long wait. It took a further 15mins after sitting with empty plates for them to be taken away. We requested the bill - this took another 10mins and we had been overcharged by around £40 (£16 of this was an optional 10% service charge, the rest was overcharging for the meal). They had put through all our pizzas as £17 when they should have been £12. They had included the mistake (second side). We asked for the service charge to be removed, as the waiting time for food was unacceptable. Again the server did not apologise. It took 3 further bills to get the correct amount. The second bill had redacted the service charge and side, but we remained overcharged for the pizzas. We brought this upstairs to the manager, as by this stage we had been at the premises for 2hours for a 1 course meal and we were now running late for an evening event. The third bill from the manager then charged the correct amount for the pizzas, but added back on the service charge, making it a higher total than the second bill. We again requested the service charge was removed AGAIN, and finally were charged the correct amount. We were stood in the main entrance for a good 10 minutes sorting this out. I understand that The Olive Branch don't have Impasto food items on their cash register, which complicated things with the bill. I'd say don't offer the service if you are struggling to this extent.

The three of us took advantage of their lunchtime/early evening offer of a sharing plate and two glasses of wine for £20 - adding another sharing plate which was more than ample food and variety for us! Other items on the menu looked just as appetising - especially the 5 tapas for £20! The menu was full of choices for veggies, pleasing both my husband and my cousin, neither being eat meat eaters. I particularly liked the fact that there wasn't any shells to sort out on the fishboard - it was all easy to eat. Service was efficient but laid back enough for us to have a relaxing Friday afternoon lunch - the atmosphere was great as it wasn't too loud and we could hear each other speak. Downstairs is a bar/coffee bar which looks like a nice place to drop in whilst doing some shopping when you're in Worcester.

It took a little bit of effort to find it as its a few blocks up North Street. Like a number of UK inns, the Lion consists of a bar, a restaurant, and a hotel. It's also not an independent inn as it's part of the Butcome group. The folks here work hard as we same the same folks a breakfast, dinner, and in-between. It's popular as the Sunday bar and restaurant crowd on this bank Holiday weekend was impressive. Here are my ratings: Bar (3 Stars) - Nice selection, but with slightly snippy service. When I asked what they had beer wise that was around Guiness strength, the answer was "Coffee". Then it too awhile to get her attention again. Maybe I missed the joke. Patio (4 Stars) - This was a nice outdoor spot to comfortably hang out, especially since the weather was relatively warm and it wasn't raining. Dinner (4 Stars) - We dined "early" as they were wrapping up the dining room hours because of the bank holiday. And as we were already in a "Burger and a Pint" mood, our choices were the right choice and quite tasty. Breakfast (5 Stars). Good selection, nice dining room, timely service, strong coffee, good portions, and tasty choices. You can't do much better than that. Accommodation (5 Stars). We snagged the "Super Indulgent" room which with the associated bath tub (great soak after a hike) made Gayle feel like a princess. I loved this room too.

I'm disappointed in some of the poor reviews below. Lion Inn had very friendly and attentive…read moreservice by a group of amiable hardworking young people. It was a good atmosphere here and we were in a convivial setting which we enjoyed. The food was good (I enjoyed the steak), and I wish there were a few more gluten-free options, but it was an overall fine experience and certainly wasn't the nightmare described by some of the overly demanding people who've reviewed previously. 5 stars for the service and ambience, and even if the food was 3-4, these fine folks deserve their average rating to go up a bit!
