The history of the park is interesting. It was called Nikkei to honor the Japanese Americans from this areawho were interred in concentration camps, and their vital contribution to the community that turned on them. The word nikkei refers to members of the Japanese diaspora. The park has a dinosaur theme and is kind of unique amongst parks we've been to. There are several dinosaur sculptures placed throughout the park for kids (both big and small) to enjoy. There's of course plenty of playground equipment. But there's also a sand pit where kids can play and dig for "fossils". We did spend a chunk of time at the sand pit--it was a bigger attraction for my kiddo than I thought. There are toilets here, if I recall correctly, near the entrance to the park. Parking is limited--but it's a neighborhood park, so to be expected. The elementary school nearby allows parking during off-hours.

We were searching for a nearby park for a picnic and someplace we can do our weekly walk…read more Today's destination is Ventura Park. We got some food to go at a nearby food cart, and drove here. For what we can see, they have honey buckets for people to use. A nice playground, that I've not seen before. Ventura Park, according to their website is home to Portland Parks & Recreation's first pump track! A continuous dirt loop that can be ridden on a bike without the need for pedaling. It is not designed for skateboarders or BMX riders. The pathway are paved to the play area. We can watch kids play in the playground, by sitting and having lunch from our car. I could see people having a picnic on one of the tables. We will have to come back here & enjoy more of what they have to offer.

This is one of the larger parks in the area, with lots to see and do…read more There is a trail that takes you through beautiful wetlands with several benches along the way, making it easy to take a break or just sit and take in the scenery. One part of the trail ends by a middle school, the other by a parking lot. There's also two fenced off dog park areas, a large playground and a skate park area. There are plenty of children at the playground when I've visited on Sunday afternoons. In addition to a jungle gym, there's a xylophone and drums. There are at least two restroom buildings and both are well maintained. Overall, I feel this is one of the better parks in the are. It's great for walks because there's a lot to see.

The ground is colorful turf and soft for hard landings. It has a parking lot close by as well as beautiful and easy walking trails through Jenkins Estste. Truly a gem!

It's very clean and just a walk from the playground is the water feature+splash pad which is perfect for the summer. There is enough shade, picnic tables, bathrooms, covered areas, grassy areas...it has everything. The playground part has a huge structure that looks like a barn, complete with a little "pen" that has a springy horse that seats one, in the middle (it's like a mechanic bull situation but for 10 and under ). There's a different section that is friendlier for younger kids, and a huge slide (it was closed for repairs the times we went but didn't take away with how fun it was there!) Even the water feature seems clean which can be hard to do since it's more natural cement style. I will say the ONLY downside is that it can be a little more slippery because of the materials...just make sure your kiddos actually listen when you say "no running" or they might bang up their knees! Never have an issue with parking or finding an area to set up a blanket.

I'm so glad I did! What struck me first and most about this park was how clean and well maintained it is. They have a delightful sand box with water feature that, I'm sure, will keep the kids busy all day. They also have a very unique and creative rope contraption to climb on (I don't know what the cool kids call it). And there's a skate park, basketball court, baseball diamond, and tennis court to keep everyone happy. We were there on Friday night and the tennis court was filled with folks playing Pickle Ball. So cool to see so many people outside and active on a beautiful summer evening. Finally, there's a wide, well maintained walking path along the river that is delightful. It's so awesome to find a public place like this. We all need more of this!

But I love the space, how much room there is to run and play, picnic benches to enjoy lunch at a table or you can use anywhere on the vast green space to picnic. I also love that this is right across the street from Commonwealth Lake Park, if you want to venture on a walk and see some of the local wildlife, or try another playground. There is always easy and great parking and it's kept SO clean and SO lovely year round. I have 0 bad things to say about this park!!! There are no toilets except for porta potties so if you're okay with that, fear not. But if you're like me, drive the 3 minutes to Cedar Hills Rec to use a real bathroom.
