TLC Contracting

TLC Contracting

We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

The Tile Shop - Shower floor meets shower wall

The Tile Shop provided a referral to us for shower work. The "contractor" they referred, Tom, has…read morenow cost us thousands in repairs and re-work. He patchily grouted the shower and never caulked, water is behind and under the tile now. He never even sealed! He then tiled the floors to match, and never fully grouted leaving holes. He also failed to take out the old floor, elevating the new floor significantly causing a trip hazard at each of the thresholds. He had to cut down our very expensive six panel oak doors so they would fit on the new floors, but he cut them so poorly. They are now jagged and stripping at the bottom. We have a new contractor coming in to do the work again, but it's going to cost us thousands and thousands more because now he has to demo and we have to buy new doors. We paid him in full, (stupid, I know) and then he stopped responding to our calls and texts, because my husband called him "unprofessional" for being non-responsive and not doing the work properly. I could cry. Beware of Tile Shop referrals.

The contractor took forever to complete the project and when I went to return some items they would not refund my money because the items were purchased more than 60 days prior. in addition, they would not take back an open box of tile with about 40 tiles in it. I had no problem returning individual tiles at TWO "Big Box" stores. I'm not sure why I paid more for the tile but got less service. in the future, I will save money and get better service by using a big box store. Super disappointing.

I told her what I was looking for, and she called for another staff member to take me to the type of flooring I wanted. He took me to that section and explained that there were three categories that they carried and what the differences were. I found the prices to be comparable with other stores I visited for similar flooring. I bought a sample of the plank for $5 to take home and see how it would look in my bathroom. He also told me that if I only end up needing two boxes, I can return the third box, if it wasn't opened, for a refund. That worked for me! Two days later, I went back to buy the flooring. Same staff member working the register remembered me. I told her I was ready to buy and gave her the SKU number that I took a photo of two days prior. She called another staff member over to retrieve three boxes of the planks for me. He also loaded them into my car. It was the easiest buying experience I've ever had. Although, I was probably the easiest customer they've had to help. Yes, it helped that I already researched what type of flooring I wanted, but I'm sure they would have helped me get to that point if needed. I was there about 15-20 minutes the first day, and maybe 5 minutes the second day. I was impressed with the non-pushy, laid-back, helpful, and friendly approach by all three staff members that helped me. My contractor was happy with my choice, as he was very familiar with the product I bought. I'm sure it will look great once installed, and I highly recommend this store.

My life lately has come to reviewing home improvement places, but I'm okay with that! On Saturday,…read morewe were on the hunt for interior tiling and Floor & Decor was recommended to us. This place is absolutely massive providing all flooring options from wood, to laminate, stone, tile and vinyl. If you're looking for a certain style, pattern, or color, I'd be surprised if they didn't have it. It's also a clean, well, kept, and spacious store that is very easy to navigate around. We found the Rock Ridge Ledger Stone we were looking for in the back of the store, and snagged six boxes to start with. I'd definitely call the pricing reasonable. My only caveat is that both the staff members we spoke to didn't seem to be the most knowledgable on product. We were looking for the best sealant, and each of them didn't seem too sure on the best recommendation. Good thing I have dad on speed dial who knows the ropes of renovation! We'd certainly return to Floors & Decor for future tile and flooring needs. I see a bathroom remodel in my future...!

Our old flooring was…read moreinstalled improperly so there was a lot of work to be done to prep the floor to be ready for a new installation. It was important to us that we had a detailed estimate with no surprise expenses at the end. Both Phil and Tony were very helpful with preparing our estimate and educating us on the various flooring options we could choose from. They were always available to take our calls and answer any questions we had. Once we had an estimate and our new flooring picked out, the job was started within a few days. Dylan did our installation and we were so impressed with his work! He showed up on time every day and his attention to detail was very clear. He worked efficiently but nothing ever felt rushed. He was polite, friendly and did quality work. We are so happy with the end result. John and his team helped us with the removal and reinstallation of our cabinets and appliances so the work could be done. They also showed up on time and took care of everything so the flooring work could be done. We spent a lot of time doing our research on replacing our kitchen floor and are so happy we went with Hunt's Flooring. We would absolutely go to them again for any future flooring needs and would recommend them to anyone.

My fiance and I spent over a month trying to find the right flooring for our new house. We went…read moreeverywhere and had a very hard time finding something. Given we had a budget, many stores scoffed at us when we walked in and they found out we didn't want to spend $8/sqft on wood flooring. Other places like Home Depot and Lowes lacked the style and choices we were craving...not to mention a severe lack of customer service as well. We were just about ready to settle when a real estate developer told us to try Hunt's Flooring in West Allis. From the moment we walked in, Tony and the rest of the staff quickly turned the frustration of picking a floor into a very enjoyable experience! Right from the start it felt different than the other stores we went into...it felt "right!" Tony warmly greeted us and got a feel for the project we had at hand. He eagerly educated us on different types of flooring, happily accepting the terms of our budget, and steered us in the right direction of the products he offered...which were very plentiful! Tony seemed eager to share his craft...Want to "hear" the difference between a floated vs. nailed down floor? Visit this place just for that amazing experience! What we valued most about Hunt's is that, right from the start, we felt like they valued us as a customer of their store. Before we even started to commit to purchasing something from them, the staff spent a lot of time helping us find the right product for our project...and also allowed us to have alone time searching and talking, free from salesman tactics or distractions. We never felt like we were getting "sold" to...and that was SO refreshing! When we finally did find something we loved and ordered it from them, the customer service didn't stop. Given our budget and my love of projects, I planned on installing the floor by myself. Many other stores, we quickly discovered, dissuade their customers from DIY. Tony was excited we were installing the floor by ourselves, and went out of his way to give us tips and tools to use throughout our project! If we ever need any flooring solution ever again, we will, hands-down, begin our search at Hunt's Flooring. What's more, we HIGHLY recommend anyone in the same boat as us to do the same!! Thank you, Hunt's Flooring!!
