Full disclosure, I do love zoos. But as I said, I specifically came here to see the pandas, because I'd never seen one in real life. It was only after I got back home that I remembered that this was the zoo where the lady with mental issues climbed into the polar bear exhibit to swim with them. Yikes!
It's a great zoo. The grounds were immaculate with wide, winding pathways. There was plenty of room indoors and out, both for the humans and non-humans. I enjoyed watching the anteater waddle around; an animal I have seen before, but my hometown zoo doesn't have one. I thought the aviary part where you walk through with the ground dwelling birds was pretty neat. My zoo has something like that, but the birds are all tree dwellers, save a few ducks. We saw the bald eagle and gave him/her a little salute, and watched as the kudu chased the ostriches. Of course, the pandas were my favorite part. The babies and mom were off exhibit the day we went, but we got to see dad rolling around the outdoor exhibit before taking a nap.
The gift shop was great. It had a huge variety of souvenirs to buy, and I had a difficult time making up my mind what to get. Most of my items were panda themed, but I walked away with one or two things to remind me of the overall zoo as well.
Education, conservation, preservation...this zoo has and does it all.
