Away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life lies an oasis in Augusta, MO. No, this isn't Augusta, Georgia, but it may as well be. Boone Valley was designed by P.B. Dye, the son of legendary architect Pete Dye. From that you can infer you will be in for a stern test. Boone Valley offers up one of the most picturesque golf courses you will find in the world. I can say without skipping a beat this is the best golf course in town. If you ever find this place busy, you are at the wrong place. Bent fairways that are manicured to perfection and greens that roll truer than most any you will find. Here is a helpful tip. 98% of the putts out here break toward the front gate. Now you have no excuse when you miss your first putt. Oh, and the employees here are nothing but the best. Only to be expected at a club like Boone Valley. If you don't know a member to help you get on, now is the time to start looking.

I will usually go back to this course anytime I am down this way. When you walk into the club house you can see that several different football players and other sports figures have come through to play the course. It is owned by Justin Smith of the Cincinatti Bengals and he grew up in this area so that's pretty cool. This is an 18-hole Public Golf course that plays just under 6700 yards from the longest tee, for a par of 72. The front nine has some holes near water and appear to be in better condition than the back nine. Hole #2 is a par 5 where you can't even really see the fairway, but you have to be precise in where you drive the ball. Your second shot is generally between 220 and 189 (depending on how far you drive). Reachable in two for an eagle. If you go left then chances are you're dropping a shot. Holes #17 and 18 are challenging. 17 goes straight up a hill and can be frustrating if you don't hit a good tee shot. I call 18 the arrogant tee shot. The correct way to play the hole is to hit into the small fairway patch and then attack the green. This hole has a severe dog leg right and it's about 230-250 to clear the trees if you want to go straight for the green. Most usually end up in the trees, but if you can find your ball then you are just a chip shot away. I would normally give it 5 stars, but the recent conditions of this course have made it drop one star. There is a fungus that is killing the greens and they don't seem to do much about it. Another factor is that the greens are somewhat small so you don't have much to work with. Overall though, for the price and location, it's a fun round.

The greens were a…read morelittle slow today because it had rained 2 inches last night, but they were smooth, green and in fantastic shape, in spite of the undulations and ridges which I could never seem to read right. The scenery is great also. Last year they added 9 holes to make it 18. We all know how hot and bad last year was. Those added holes have come back well for being brand new in a hot drought year. This course has a lot of potential. I do think it plays harder than its slope rating and that makes it a good challenge. I'm not sure about weddings here, but the golfing is fun.
