I've heard friends from Quezon City rave about Wingstop, a Texas-based fast food chain that…read morespecializes in chicken wings and tenders. A few weeks ago, I discovered that a branch has finally opened in Makati. At the streetside section of Glorietta 2, directly facing Landmark, it's hard to miss the place. What with a conspicuously designed name printed on its glass window and right above the entrance. Finding a seat is also not a problem as the dining area is huge and there are plenty of tables and chairs. I liked Wingstop even before I tasted their food. The reason: Their food choices are few. You'll not be overwhelmed by different options or types of food. Their menu revolves around chicken wings. Since their Makati branch is fairly new, I imagined that customers would take a long time to decide what to order. But it didn't take long for the people ahead of me to finish their transactions at the counter. It could be that everyone had already tried Wingstop and knew what to eat or it could be that 7:00pm is not a good time to eat wings (are you kidding me?). Since I was on my way home, I decided to have my orders in a takeaway bag. I simply wanted to sample their wings so I got a 7-piece order of wings with two flavors - Garlic Parmesan and Louisiana Rub. Both taste great but I liked the Louisiana Rub better because of its sweet and mild spicy flavor.

We spoke to James, co-owner and founder of King of Wings. Soon, they'll open new restaurants in several places. This place is noted for unlimited chicken wings, refer to their menu. We ordered their party platter with four different flavors for chicken wings. Good for 4 people. The flavors we chose are garlic parmesan, caramelized patis (fish sauce), honey bbq and teriyaki. I liked the garlic parmesan chicken wings. The fried wings were marinated, moist, soft and crunchy (garlic parmesan). It's deliciously prepared for each customer. Lots of young millennials love to come and eat lunch here at King of Wings. This place is busy during lunch hour. Affordable price and serving is average. Clean and neutral gender bathroom.

AMBIENCE & LOCATION You can find them near the intersection…read moreof Pearl and Ruby Street in Pleasantville (where Star Shop used to be). Parking is just along the street and they have shaded seats outside. Entire place came to life as evening approached and aircon inside was pretty chill. Dine-in space is a bit limited but our group managed since we arrived early. Expect lots of wood! It is self-service for utensils and claiming food orders and buzzers are given so you will know when to get up. BEVERAGES Roasted Almond Milktea is an acquired flavor to appreciate but pearls were chewy. As soon as I tried the Caramel Popcorn Milktea, I wanted to swap drinks already because the latter was super good! Caramel is one thing but this particular bev truly tasted like caramel popcorn, so expect it to be really sweet. Cucumber Lime was typically good though I noticed a tiny pinch of powder in one sip. Maybe it could have been mixed better but at least it was refreshing. FOOD Grilled Sausage Trio with cilantro rice (schubling, Italian and kielbasa) was delicious though a bit pricey; it really is expected of such a dish. At least the cilantro was fairly scattered within the rice. Honey BBQ and Southern Style Chicken Wings with jollof rice were tasty too, but flavors were typical. They are still like usual fried chicken but with a fancy presentation; actually everything has such an impression! Singaporean Cereal Prawn with jollof rice was my top choice followed by the sausage trio. Texture and flavor of the "cereal" was addicting. Considering the number of shrimps served, it is pricey in my book but not as expensive as those found in Metro Manila. And for those wondering what jollof rice is, I just finished reading that is it famous West African country rice with rice, tomato, tomato paste, onions, cooking oil and goat meat or beef as main ingredients. SERVICE Although their restaurant is self-service, they helped us with our beverages and some of our food items.

But, I just go here for the wings :) They have a variety of sauces to choose from depending on how tame or HOT you want your wings to be. Actually, I really don't like my food to be too spicy. BUT, I recommend that you try their Ultimate Wingsanity challenge! You need to sign a waiver before trying it. Yes, it is that HOOOT! I barely survive with their Armageddon Sauce (2-3 levels lower than the Wingsanity). :( Anyways, I did try the challenge with my brother. I had one bite & I was literally crying! My mouth went numb & I couldn't think after that. It was definitely an experience! I can actually tolerate the spiciness of the Rookie! My fave non-spicy sauces are the Honey BBQ and Garlic Parmesan. Their wings are go very well with their dirty rice & blue cheese dip. I also recommend the Triple Mini Burgers, served hot and cheese oozing everywhere. :) Get ready to get your hands dirty, because that's the only way to enjoy these wings!

These appetizers go extremely well with a nice cold bottle of San Miguel Beer if I might say so myself! :) But of course, as expected, my favorite in Buffalo Wing's 'N' Things is their chicken! More often than not, I order their Hand Battered Dirty Chicken Tenders! It's pure awesome that they have options on their menu that you pick from to help you decide what level of spiciness you can handle for your chicken from mild to hot! I like spicy food so I usually order my chicken tenders with the spiciness level called Firehouse Classic with a side of Bleu Cheese as the dip! I always plan to eat something new whenever I enter this restaurant because they have a lot of different kinds of food to choose from, but I always end up ordering their chicken. Soon, I'll make sure to try something I've never had before... Maybe. :)

For those who are not familiar where WingMan is located, it's at The Collective (a commercial space where hipsters unite!) near Grepa Life building in Makati. As the restaurant name suggests, their main offering are... tadah - chicken wings in different flavors! Like any other wings place, they offer it in 1/2 dozen of 1 dozen with one order between 180 - 300. You can also combine different flavors of wings if you decide to get 1 dozen. We tried their Garlic Parmesan and Hickory Barbeque since both of us are not fans of spicy wings. The size of their wings is average, I've had other wings bigger than the one from WingMan though their flavor was pretty impressive. Aside from Chicken Wings, they also have healthy meals such as salads in their menu and also offers a wide selection of burgers. My boyfriend tried their Cowboy Burger, which was their Texas-inspired sandwich with BBQ sauce, bacon and caramelized onions with fries to go with. I got to take a bite out of this burger and found it especially good! I've always been a fan of anything with BBQ on it so I was happy to find that theirs measured up to my BBQ standards. They also have local and imported beers that perfectly complement your chicken wings. They also have cocktails for the ladies. One drawback of this place is that it's quite small (around 40 people can fit in) and parking is a big issue.

Walking in on a Saturday night, I half-expected that familiar college-town hum--a low murmur of conversation, sticky tables, and the faint smell of fried dreams. Instead, the place was eerily quiet, like the party wrapped up long before I got the memo. I went for the classics--half a dozen of their Signature Buffalo Spicy and half a dozen Salted Egg Bone-In Wings, with blue cheese sauce riding shotgun. A side of rice (because it's Manila--of course there's rice) and mashed potatoes that... well, we'll get to those in a second. The beer--a cold Honey Ale from a local craft brewer--was the unsung hero of the night. Finally, someone in Manila brewing something that didn't taste like regret and melted ice. The wings? Definitely not bad. Crispy, juicy--like they actually respected the bird. But if you're going to throw your name in the ring for best wings in town, you need to bring more than just competence. The Salted Egg seasoning--Southeast Asia's current golden child--was a heavy, clumsy affair. It coated every inch of the wing like a thick winter jacket. No chili kick, no garlic bite--just a flat, salty blanket that had me checking my pulse halfway through. The Buffalo sauce, their so-called signature, leaned way too sweet--more candied ketchup than the tangy, spicy, vinegary slap you want from proper Buffalo wings. And then there was the blue cheese sauce--if you could even call it that. The kind of stuff that comes squeezed out of a sad little plastic packet, shelf-stable for the next nuclear winter. You know the one--overly loose, weirdly tangy, with about as much real blue cheese as a 7-Eleven hot dog. A sauce like that isn't just disappointing--it's disrespectful. The mashed potatoes were some kind of crime against carbs. Lumpy, under-seasoned, with a pale, plasticky cheese blanket on top that made me wonder what the poor spuds did to deserve this fate. The rice, surprisingly, became the unsung palate cleanser--cutting through the heaviness and giving the meal at least some rhythm. Service was the kind that leaves you alone--sometimes a little too alone. You had to flag someone down like you were hailing a cab in the rain. Look--Frankie's isn't a bad joint. If you're already three beers deep and need something fried to keep you vertical, they'll do the job. But for an avid wing eater--someone who's chased those little fried miracles across NYC--this was just another forgettable night. And when it comes to wings, forgettable is the worst sin of all.

As juicy as a water soaked Amazon box. The classic Buffalo wings were mediocre at best. Underwhelming flavor and I'm being nice and generous in stating "flavor". When we entered, the entire first floor was packed and lines were long for ordering and claiming. The crowd eventually lessened as several minutes went by but there were still a lot of customers. FOOD We tried the 3PC Chicken Tenders and the 1PC Chicken and both had different textures especially on the coating. Tenders were typically good but the Bold BBQ dip was the star flavor in this combo; tasted really good! 1PC had tender white meat and a really thick coating, which tasted good but made the chicken actually look smaller. Biscuit was just as good as before and still somewhat plain, which I totally appreciate. At first, I thought the flavor was infused into the biscuit but turns out you put it in like you would with butter. Our flavor was honey but the experience of placing it in the biscuit was more interesting than the actual flavor. Spaghetti had a sweet and subtly unique taste. Fries had a nice and crispy texture. Among our orders, I still think only about those good and plain biscuits. SERVICE We had to wait quite awhile because there were lots of customers, and one number was called several times sometime before ours. The customer of that number never came and I was able to eventually get our order. I'd like to suggest that they use a TV screen (unless they have one upstairs already) or a pager to call out the number especially for customers upstairs.
