Green salad was hot Not impressed. And the Bloody Mary mix is sub par. However, the diner is cute and service is good. Second visit: had to sit at counter which is fine. They were busy. The bad: Bloody Mary's were flat and expensive $13 each. No depth of flavor, thought we would give them a second chance. . Ordered croquette madame. Egg was severely undercooked - the egg white was gelatatinous and the bread way too thick, ham fatty and subpar, where were you Béchamel? I took a bite of my breakfast and he hands me a box at the end when I asked for the check--not asking if anything is wrong. Two bites out of the spring mix salad and sandwich. Bloody Mary full. $70 for a salad, madame croquette, slow service which is no problem. It's a tiny diner and around lunch time. No worries there. But uncomfortable dining service because we could feel the tension between the server and bartender. Again for me? NBD but my daughter did not appreciate this. The good: the Mediterranean salad was delicious according to my daughter. She had the same thoughts about the Bloody Marys. Super cute beer backs- pony miller high life. I brought the croque madame home and my son loved it. Went on and on about how amazing it was. In all fairness my adult kids loved their food. He did microwave it to cook the egg through. Yes I know I am picky because I worked in the restaurant industry for over 22 years. And I can make better food at home. I just expect a bit more if I am going to drop $70 for two lunch entrees and two drinks. Not including the tip. Bottom line: I would not go back for this very expensive diner that doesn't know how to properly cook simple things. Or chop veg. Or make a drink.

Cheese curds are a staple in Minnesota so my friend and I made it our mission to try it every place we went - Hi-Lo did not disappoint. Although the place was busy, we got seated pretty quickly and didnt have to worry about the wait. When I think about American diners, this place did not miss - it looks exactly how I imagine it would in the movies. Delicious food and definitely a place I would recommend if youre ever in the area to try some minnesotan fare!!

The meal was delicious, service was top notch and we definitely be back sooner than the 50 year gap since our last visit (when we're HS seniors). We completely enjoyed the lobster/cauliflower/gouda melt appetizer- in fact this might have been the star of our meal. Moving on we shared a wedge salad that was fresh and delicious. For our main course we shared Steak Diane and asparagus. The combo of the steak with the creamy sauce over a bed of mushrooms was superb. Our meal closed with an ice cream sundae for our anniversary treat and we also shared the grasshopper pie. We loved the pie! The side serving of asparagus was much more than we needed - I might skip that choice for the next dining occasion. If you are a fan of the traditional feel of a supper club, this is the place for you. You will be treated well and made to feel special. The serving staff move in and around quietly and do everything you expect from a 5-star supper club. The warm moist towel at the end of the meal was a touch of gratitude that we appreciated. Our reservations were at 5:15 and I think arriving early helped our overall experience. We really appreciated the kitchen team for splitting the portions - it helps us share the meal so we can try more options without overeating. The staff was gracious and we received a complimentary photo celebrating our anniversary. There were so many little touches that made this a memorable celebration.

We were warmly greeted by the host who sat us right away in a sunny spot. Our server was wonderful. I ordered a drink that ended up not being up to par, and he kindly offered to switch it to something else with grace and class, without making me feel badly for asking this. This goes to show the caliber of this long standing institution. Customers are treated well and are respected here. Our snacks from the menu were delicious and perfectly sized. The shrimp cocktail was made well. The lamb meatballs were flavorful and hearty. My Hemingway Daquiri was refreshing without being too liquor forward. Love all the Luxardo drinks on the menu! We pulled in at 6:30pm on a Saturday, and got the last spot in the parking lot and had to wait just under 10 minutes for a table. By the time we left, there wasn't a wait. If you hate waiting for a table, stall out your dinner until 7ish.
