We love Bison and Elk and Venison, but have a hard time finding it and when we do, it is usually not very good. Such is not the case with Wild Fork in Venice. This nicely sized store has everything you might want in the way of meat and fish. They have great fish. We have had their Elk, Bison and Venison all made up as burgers with these great rolls we got right there. It is all great. We are now regular customers. The service is excellent. They know about everything they carry and go out of their way to explain things. The place is just so bright and pretty. It is so very clean and it is easy to find what you want. They have some of the best steaks we have ever had, the marbling being perfect. We also love their lobster. And all of this is at a fair price. Go there.

My husband loves this store, especially when we decide to partake in some seafood (we're dairy-free, meat free but have seafood every now and then). This is a brightly lit market with the most helpful and friendly employees. They have so many options that are sustainably sourced and organic. Everything is frozen. No fresh items to select from but it's still good quality and a variety of options. They're located in Venice off of Lincoln Blvd with free parking lot.

We spotted Wild Fork on our first day back in MdR and were quite curious. A couple of days later, we stopped in to check out the place. Wow! The store is brightly LED-lit, including the cases. Meats and seafood are mostly flash frozen and cryrovac'ed. Beef, poultry, pork, lamb, veal, and game meats, plus seafood. We returned two days later and picked up 6# of bone-in veal osso buco -- excellent value at $12 per pound, and hard to find elsewhere. I really like their Respect for the Planet. Service here is outstanding. Every associate we encountered was friendly and helpful. No problem parking behind the store with access from both Lincoln and Washington.

Stopped by this new market whose opening was about 4 months ago. Wild Fork Foods was founded in 2017 by JBS USA Holdings, Inc., a meat processing company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Brazilian multinational JBS S.A., the largest meat packer in the world. Every item in the store is frozen, but a reason in my opinion is that the store has so many different options that the shear number of choices requires the store to conserve palatability. They use flash freezing, the way they freeze all their products. Their frozen salmon, the large frozen piece, was excellent once defrosted and grilled in foil with onion, lemon and spices. Key- don't over cook. There is everything from rabbit to ravioli, alligator to quail, pizza to pork tenderloin, black sea bass to tomahawk beef steak, and foie gras to cheese empanadas which will guarantee there is something for everyone. Due to the special freezing techniques defrosting is easy for most meats, poultry and fish. Per instructions, if an item is up to 1.5 lbs place in cold water with the plastic wrap on for up to 1.4 hours. Larger items up to 2.5 hours or just place in fridge for the next day or two. Prices are reasonable and there is a free parking lot. They have several locations. What this place also is- an eclectic high end grab and go!

I got there with my mother and was greeted by a very lovely gentleman named Clark. He told us we could sit wherever so we seated ourselves in the outside area. He came over right away with the menus and asked if we had been there before to which we responded had not. He went over the menu with us and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. He was very sociable and friendly. We chatted with him and put in an order for the Kiwi Chowder. I ordered a Modelo and my mother ordered a glass of orange blend wine. He came over with the drinks a while later and the Kiwi chowder and have us plenty of time to sit and enjoy the dish before we ordered our main courses. The kiwi chowder was delicious and came with little crackers. The clams and mussels were so tasty and the Ora King Salmon was a nice treat. After a while he came back and served me the Fisherman's Mixed Basket and my mother got the Fish tacos with fish of the day for them being Sword Fish. The fisherman's basket was amazing and paired perfectly with my beer. I had never had clams, mussels, snapper, and oysters all together and they were so good I wish I could have them more frequently. The place was very cute and sat quietly with good music playing. Not current music but music that really fit the place and set the vibe. I will be coming back here and if you ever go, there is no bad choice for the fish, the service is stupendous and I haven't gotten anything like it in forever, and if you meet Clark enjoy a friendly conversation with him.

Fun! Sightings | Vibrant Beet Noodles! Toffee almonds, and toffee sunflower seeds! I sampled several items, which caught my eye, including Banana Bread Spread(pecans, hazelnuts, freeze dried bananas, raw local honey & sea salt)! Yum!! Busy Bee | It's quite the popular place to be! There were plenty of people throughout the market, even more than I expected, bright, and early at the start of the market! Hours | Each Friday! 7AM-11AM! Parking | Free spaces in the parking lot! Samples | Several throughout the market, which is a great introduction to new items and seems to get me every time, once they spark my taste buds! Haha! To-Go | Several bouquets of vibrant Flowers to add to my colorful vases, Lemons, colorful Carrots, toffee Almonds, toffee Sunflower Seeds, and Banana Bread Spread! I'm still thinking about the beet noodles, which I'll definitely snatch up next time, as I always love beets and have them on hand! Overall I had fun walking around the market, it was great interacting with people at several stands, & I happily, walked back home to the beach with a handful of flowers and goodies! It's always a wonderful idea to support local farmers, as well as have an option to select fresh fruit, and veggies! Also, exciting to find new discoveries/items along the way, & for me, fresh flowers! Let's go!

Perfect Friday Morning Farmers Market -- Fresh, Friendly, and Easy!…read more The Venice Farmers Market is one of my absolute favorite ways to start a Friday morning. It's open every Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and it's the perfect place to pick up fresh essentials for the week. What I love most about this market is how easy and convenient it is. Parking is simple, it's never overly crowded, and you can pop in and out quickly -- even before work since it opens early. All the vendors and farmers are super friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. You'll find everything here -- fresh produce (including delicious avocados), beautiful flowers, Mexican food, salsa, and so much more. It has all the basics you need without the hustle and bustle of larger markets. I usually go to the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers Market, which is great but much busier and more competitive when it comes to parking. By contrast, the Friday Venice market is much quieter and more relaxed -- truly a hidden gem. If you live nearby and have Friday mornings free, I highly, highly recommend stopping by this market. It's such a lovely and easy way to support local farmers and start your weekend with fresh, high-quality food.

What a wonderful surprise…read more I live just around the corner from Jamaica Bay Inn, and for whatever reason, it took me far too long to finally have dinner here with family and friends. I wish I'd discovered it sooner. The restaurant overlooks Mother's Beach, and the setting is exactly what you'd hope for: peaceful, relaxed, and quintessential Marina del Rey. You almost expect the view to be the highlight... Then the food shows up. For appetizers, we shared the hummus plate and the calamari. Both were excellent. As someone whose kids were practically raised eating seafood around the ports of New England, calamari is one of those deceptively simple dishes we judge pretty harshly. Beachside absolutely passed the test. I ordered the cheeseburger, which was solid, but the real stars of the evening were the roasted Jidori chicken and the jumbo shrimp fettuccine. The chicken was perfectly juicy, something that sounds easy but surprisingly few restaurants consistently get right. The shrimp fettuccine completely stole the show. In fact, it's now become my daughter's regular takeout order, and she's easily the toughest pasta critic in our family. Congratulations... you've officially earned the title of our favorite pasta spot in the Marina. The service was another highlight. Our server spoke both German and Italian, had a great sense of humor, and made the evening feel warm and effortless. Between the location, the food, and the hospitality, I already know this is going to become one of our regular family dinner spots.

First let me say that Nahum, who helped us was excellent. The absolute perfect balance of checking on you but not overdoing it. If it weren't for Nahum, morning sun, and the breeze, I think we would have sent back our plates and left. Really. We didn't tell him there were any issues, because once the decision was made to stay, why ruin his holiday too? lol Ordered coffee. Dreadful. Ok, no big deal. The food came out and I could immediately SEE The Unappetizing . It's special when you can tell that your food is going to be bad before you take one bite. The French toast was Sahara dry, burned and flavorless. The chicken, was competing with it in the dry and flavorless category-- I really can't say which was worse. I don't really use hot sauce and I drowned the tenders in Cholula just to make it halfway edible. Literally we could have waited for the AMC chicken tenders and they would have been better, which is horrifying. Particularly when you try to avoid fried food in general and now you are poisoning your body for no good reason. Husband ordered a steak and eggs, medium well. I'll attach the picture and I'll let you be the judge of whether or not it was cooked properly. Eggs were not good either. Immediately, I gave hubby more than half my plate because he eats All of Everything that's put in front of him. Something would have to get up and walk off his plate for him to not eat it. He was taught not to waste food, period. The exception was steak so that he could take it home, cook it, and then eat it. This was possibly the worst meal I've ever had, and certainly on a special occasion. So many places we could have gone today that would have been a different experience, but it will never happen again. Perched right on the marina, it offers a beautiful waterfront setting and, if you get the right seat, terrific views of the boats. Parking is easy enough: valet is $12, or you can use the public lot farther down Panay Way for a little less. Walking in, the restaurant immediately has personality. The host area almost feels like a mini art gallery, with eclectic paintings scattered around, while the bar to the right has a great, dark, old-school ambience. They also have a GREAT Happy Hour, a fact we were reminded of no fewer than three times! It runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The main dining room continues the moody, slightly quirky seafood-house feel, with the real star being the wall of windows overlooking the marina. Unfortunately, I enjoyed almost none of that view. Our table was at the bottom of the entrance ramp, and I willingly took the worst seat, leaving me with a terrific view of the front door and the backs of other diners. Sometimes being the gentleman has consequences. One completely unnecessary observation: I was not a fan of the waiter uniforms. I'm no fashion maven, but the black-and-white long-sleeve shirts gave me a strange sitcom-waiter vibe. Minor point, but I noticed it. Service overall was solid, although there was room for improvement. After a long day of golf, I was THIRSTY, and my water glass spent too much time empty. Cocktails from the bar were also a little slow at times. Speaking of cocktails, they make a good drink. I enjoyed a properly filthy Ketel One martini, although no blue cheese olives, which, in my world, is a legitimate strike. The ladies loved their lemon drops, and the Smokey Jane, a smoky riff on an Old Fashioned, was also very good. We visited during Dine LA, which offered a prix-fixe menu. Two at our table went that route and enjoyed it, with the octopus appetizer receiving especially high praise. The chicken parmesan was also called out as excellent. They do use rich/heavy sauces on food items, like the Dine LA steak option. Another small strike: substitutions. The salmon came with rice, while one person wanted mashed potatoes. Our server explained that "the chef is not a fan of substitutions." Fair enough, although apparently the chef is perfectly comfortable with you BUYING a side of mashed potatoes. Such is life. I also later realized the table bread comes with a charge. I'm old enough to remember when bread simply appeared without requiring a financial decision. Dessert was mixed. The Dine LA brownie-and-ice-cream option didn't get much love, but my wife ordered the Bananas Foster, which was outstanding and easily the dessert winner. Our server, Courtney D., was personable, did a nice job explaining the menu, and even served as our table photographer. Bonus points. Finally, I went to the restroom before leaving and discovered they were out of paper towels. BOOOO. This resulted in my longtime friend flicking his wet hands all over me, which, between two old friends, was both predictable and apparently the only logical solution. So where do I land? The evening had a few flaws, but nothing damning. Good food, good cocktails, an interesting room and, assuming you don't voluntarily sit facing the front door, a beautiful marina setting. I'm at about 3.8 stars, which in Yelp mathematics rounds nicely to 4 stars. Would I go back? Absolutely. The food was delicious, the setting was enjoyable, and most importantly, it was a great place to spend an evening with good friends.

Attention Owner/manager of Dear Janes, There is a clear…read morereason why your review ratings are 3.5 sub-par! I took my brother, his wife and my wife out for his Birthday and our Anniversary. When I made my reservation online, I was asked if it was a special occasion, and I indicated as such! Even the hostess inquired and I told her the same. Perhaps some special little perks might be expected? Not a chance here! The service was slow and disappointing (waited 15 minutes before anyone greeted our group) and our server seemed either not to like our party, or he just dislikes his job! It was quite apparent. The guy who prepared our salads table-side was terrific and he obviously enjoys his job! Even the water guy was super friendly. The menu is quite limited with regard to fish selections, considering this is seemingly a seafood specialty restaurant. Dear Jane's also charges ten bucks for a small (un-fresh) loaf of sourdough! The best part of our dinner was the Shrimp Louie for two. The potato crusted sea bass I ordered was drenched in oily citrus dressing, which was just very odd tasting. My wife had the chicken parmesan which was decent. We ordered 2 desserts, of which our server "forgot to put in my order" (after I asked him what he recommended, which was the banana brûlée crepe). The "Birthday" dessert to my brother was a minuscule mango coconut pudding, and I commented to him, that must be the "complimentary" Birthday dessert. But of course they charged $15 for that as well! All reputable restaurants provide complimentary special occasion desserts! Common sense courtesy! $550+ for a dinner that included no appetizers and only two glasses of wine! I ate at Dear Janes when they first opened, and there was great anticipation of their success! Back then, the manager greeted our table, asked for our feedback, and was very attentive to our satisfaction! Not even close this time! There is a reason for the mediocre reviews, and the fact that this restaurant was at 50% capacity on a Saturday night. Bottom line, this restaurant is a total RIPOFF!! Icing on the cake was the $15 Valet. Our car was literally ten feet from Valet stand. Grossly inflated prices for above-average meals! I could have spent the $550 at Steak 48 or Maestros in Malibu! Very DISAPPOINTING experience! I dislike writing bad reviews, and my intentions in doing so are purely meant to encourage making the basic changes if you wish to survive in the restaurant business!
