As a concerned parent, I feel compelled to share our difficult experience with this school,…read moreparticularly under the new principal's leadership Jennifer Di Lorenzo. Since the change in administration, my husband and I have been repeatedly contacted over very minor issues, while more serious matters involving our son were not handled appropriately. Our son was physically hit by other students on multiple occasions, yet instead of addressing the issue, the principal continuously placed the blame on him. He was made to feel responsible and even told it was wrong to "lie" to his parents when he tried to explain his side of the story something no child should have to go through. This is not only unprofessional, but deeply upsetting. Additionally, we noticed a pattern of unkind and dismissive behavior from other staff, including the campus aide, Lobat, who often ignored him when he greeted her in the mornings. On days we were slightly late, she singled him out for a tardy slip even when he was the first to arrive among the late students. The final straw was on the last day of school, when a girl hit our son and he could barely walk afterward. We took him to the office and spoke with school coordinator named Bree. She showed little concern and told him he should have reported it to his teacher, essentially dismissing him. Another child walked in shortly after and was immediately offered ice, yet my son who had been explaining his situation for nearly 20 minutes was only offered ice as an afterthought. It was clear there was no empathy for him. Unfortunately, I was pregnant during much of this time and unable to advocate for him as strongly as I would have liked, and my husband was trying to remain respectful. But the emotional toll this experience has taken on our son and our family has been significant. We have since decided to transfer him to a different school in hopes that he can move on from this experience. We do not recommend this school. No child should feel targeted or unheard in an environment that is supposed to be safe and supportive.

I felt like it was a privilege my kids got to be at such a great school with teachers who genuinely give their all and love the kids. They are all wonderful, with some of them being so magical they feel like something out of a storybook. My older child had been in an accredited Montessori school prior to Discovery, and he ended up being very behind academically. Not only did his teachers from Team 3 (pre-k) and TK flag the issue early on, they also put in extra time to try and help get him caught up. This was their personal time they gave him when they could have gone home or probably enjoyed a slightly longer break. My kids learn SO much here and they have fun doing it. It's play based, but the kids learn and love to learn. The enrichments that they offer and are included in the program, mostly funded through the DSPA, are second to none. And the community at the school is fantastic. The more you take part in school functions and volunteer, the more you'll feel the community. Leaving the school is so hard, not just for us, but for lots of families, because it's just the best. Most families go on to "top tier" private schools, and some do public schools, but I would say the public school families are a much smaller portion of the school. We never felt like anybody judged our choices one way or another. Eyde runs the school, and keeps it running like a well-oiled machine. She always listens to parents when they come to her and treats everybody with warmth and kindness. She also is there to help guide you if you want to go the private school route, so you end up at the school that is right for you. She's incredibly knowledgeable in this department. And last but not least, the campus. It's huge! A friend of mine referred to it as feeling like something out of Willy Wonka. They have slides, monkey bars, play structures, swings, a meditation yurt (it sounded ridiculous to me when I first saw it, but my son did come home and meditate so judge for yourself), a petting zoo (If I remember correctly there are miniature ponies, a pig, birds, and tourtises) etc... There is so much room for them to run and play, and they never get bored of it. There was never a day that went by where I worried about my children's safety, whether or not they were learning, or if they were having fun. My kids were full-time students and stayed for extended care. They spent almost as much time with my kids as I do, and I'm glad my kids got to spend that time with them. We drove almost 30 minutes each way to take our kids to go to Discovery, and I would do it all over again. If you're lucky enough to snag a spot at the school, take it. It's worth every penny!

The teachers harassed my sons by playing the cool kid rap music and my kids came home and using curse words such as, "poop", "butt" and "stupid". (My kids are in 5th grade they shouldn't be using this kind of language.) Not only that the female children that do go to this school have frequently asked for playdates with my eldest son, Trevor. I don't know what kind of radical, leftist ideals this school is promoting, but they sure aren't encouraging our children to act in an appropriate manner. My youngest son, Hunter, recently came home crying as his teacher, Mrs. Arisen, had asked for a hug after yelling at him for not completing his civil war reenactment script. Another terrible atrocity that occurred on school grounds left my son, Trevor, traumatized. He unfortunately has a peanut allergy, do he must sit at the peanut allegory table, alone. One day he told me that one kid had aggressively thrown a bag of peanut m&m's directly at him and yelled "BOMB!". And the staff did nothing to help. This is a terrible school and I would never send my worst enemy to this school.

Now I'm back with my first grader and she loves her school. She regularly comes home ready to talk about something she learned. We are grateful for the individual care and attention she gets. Yes, there have been challenges at times due to unforeseen issues but the dedication of the staff has always kept the school strong despite those challenges. The principal now is amazing and a part of the founding admin when the school started back in the early 2010s. She and the staff that make sure to welcome the children with smiles and high fives in the morning make it a place for kids to want to be. It warms my heart as a school social worker to see that. It's what I wish all children had at all schools.

If your child has an IEP, the VP (Murphy) will make you want to leave the school and if you don't,…read moreshe will make life very difficult. If it was up to her, she would give no accommodations, doesn't really seem fit to be a VP if she knows nothing about neurotypical children and wants them to be like soldiers, jump on command. The administrative staff is not supportive of students, just there to document the side of the story they like, in order to get kids kicked out based on low scores. If your child has low scores they will find a way to harass you into wanting to leave, instead of helping the child learn. Or they will document every minor thing, such as a child not standing still in line, as disruptive and put it in the cumulative record so they have a long rap sheet for meaningless things. Petry is as fake as her voice, the words are reassuring, but she doesn't help when Murphy and Santa Cruz team up to harass parents/children. If your child is perfect, very well behaved and earns perfect scores on tests, they love you. Otherwise, prepare yourself for hell. Teachers in kinder and first were not so good. Second grade was ok, third was horrible.
