From the very first week, our child felt welcomed. He quickly made a wonderful group of friends and now genuinely loves going to school every day. At the previous school, he dreaded. The culture at CHIME is kind, inclusive, and supportive, and it shows in how the students treat one another. Academically, we couldn't be happier. Our son transferred below grade level in reading and has since reached grade level thanks to the incredible support from his teachers and the Reading Lab program, which provides free small-group instruction before school. Programs like Reading Lab and Math Lab demonstrate that CHIME is committed to helping every child succeed. As parents of a child with an IEP, we've been especially impressed by the school's special education team. Every IEP meeting has been collaborative, thoughtful, and solution-focused. We feel like true partners with the teachers and staff, and our son has benefited tremendously from their support. One thing that has consistently stood out is the level of support in the classroom. There are multiple adults working with students, creating an environment where children receive the attention they need. The administration is approachable, transparent, and genuinely cares about both students and families. Communication is clear, and we've always felt heard when we've had questions or concerns. We also appreciate the many practical details that make life easier for working families. The pickup process is exceptionally well organized with flexible options, affordable extended pickup and aftercare, and a breakfast/lunch program with menus families can review in advance. These thoughtful systems reduce stress for parents. Beyond academics, there are wonderful opportunities including music, art, robotics, game design, and other enrichment programs that help students discover new interests. We applied to CHIME multiple years before finally getting in, and it has absolutely lived up to our hopes. Looking back, we didn't realize how much better a school experience could be until we came here. We feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this community and would recommend CHIME without hesitation.

Forget fair play--this squad has turned "gaming the system" into an Olympic event. Watching them was like seeing someone brag about winning Monopoly after stealing from the bank. Truly the highlight of the evening - parents of players who won in spite of them, bragging while the game was still going on. Let's keep it classy rather than try to live vicariously through your children. Nothing screams "athletic excellence" like crushing the spirits of kids half your size by bending every rule in sight. Inspirational, if your role model is a cartoon villain. If you want to see basketball played with integrity, look elsewhere. I ate many a cupcake to celebrate my classmates' birthdays, crossed the Charlie Brown painted bridge that kept students from walking in the street to reach the ice cream truck, giggled with my friends during the Sex Ed lesson that presented me with my first maxi pad and deodorant stick, and got pummeled by hugs from my cheering female classmates after beating the most athletic boy in our class at a handball tournament. So basically, I had the typical generally wholesome educational experience you would hope your child receive in elementary school. To its credit, Tarzana Elementary had some of the most dedicated, genial and most effective teachers I have ever known. They were confidence boosters, taught values as well as math and handwriting and worked very hard to make learning fun and engaging. I stayed after school until my mom could pick me up and during that time there were always adults to facilitate a game of kickball or baseball and make sure nobody got hurt. An older boy decided to bully me after I first transfered and when my parents complained to the school he was immediately disciplined and still couldn't look me in the eye when our paths crossed many years later. That first experience was pretty telling about the involvement the people running and working in this school chose to have in the lives of their students and the environment they were trying to foster. I am happy to say at least with this little girl, the efforts had a lasting impact.

I felt like it was a privilege my kids got to be at such a great school with teachers who genuinely give their all and love the kids. They are all wonderful, with some of them being so magical they feel like something out of a storybook. My older child had been in an accredited Montessori school prior to Discovery, and he ended up being very behind academically. Not only did his teachers from Team 3 (pre-k) and TK flag the issue early on, they also put in extra time to try and help get him caught up. This was their personal time they gave him when they could have gone home or probably enjoyed a slightly longer break. My kids learn SO much here and they have fun doing it. It's play based, but the kids learn and love to learn. The enrichments that they offer and are included in the program, mostly funded through the DSPA, are second to none. And the community at the school is fantastic. The more you take part in school functions and volunteer, the more you'll feel the community. Leaving the school is so hard, not just for us, but for lots of families, because it's just the best. Most families go on to "top tier" private schools, and some do public schools, but I would say the public school families are a much smaller portion of the school. We never felt like anybody judged our choices one way or another. Eyde runs the school, and keeps it running like a well-oiled machine. She always listens to parents when they come to her and treats everybody with warmth and kindness. She also is there to help guide you if you want to go the private school route, so you end up at the school that is right for you. She's incredibly knowledgeable in this department. And last but not least, the campus. It's huge! A friend of mine referred to it as feeling like something out of Willy Wonka. They have slides, monkey bars, play structures, swings, a meditation yurt (it sounded ridiculous to me when I first saw it, but my son did come home and meditate so judge for yourself), a petting zoo (If I remember correctly there are miniature ponies, a pig, birds, and tourtises) etc... There is so much room for them to run and play, and they never get bored of it. There was never a day that went by where I worried about my children's safety, whether or not they were learning, or if they were having fun. My kids were full-time students and stayed for extended care. They spent almost as much time with my kids as I do, and I'm glad my kids got to spend that time with them. We drove almost 30 minutes each way to take our kids to go to Discovery, and I would do it all over again. If you're lucky enough to snag a spot at the school, take it. It's worth every penny!

The teachers are hands on and the class sizes are small (around 10-15 students per class). Our daughter is now completely fluent in French even though we are a predominantly English speaking home.
