I have rarely seen my partner so hurt and angry as when she left after an appointment from "Dr." Wilber's office. Absolute lack of bedside manner, belittled her patient's concerns, had no consideration of her patient's pain tolerance. My partner asked about treatment for a condition that she had already been treated for by other OB/GYNs in the past and was flaring up again. "Dr." Wilber did not take it seriously, mispronounced the name of the condition, and did not seem to be up to date on recent medical literature or well-versed in the condition. Tell me why we've gotten better treatment from free women's health clinics and Planned Parenthood, make it make sense. read more

I was referred to Dr. Wilber in 2007 when I was diagnosed with precancerous cells on my labia. When I went to her office, it was clear that the care was not patient centered. When Dr. Wilber was explaining the problem, I asked if I could have a mirror so that I could see what she was talking about. She said they had no mirrors in the office. This is a gynecologist! After that I was asked to come back so that Dr. Wilber could describe the surgery she was going to do. At that appointment, she drew her finger around the area she was going to cut. When I told her I could not feel the area or tell what she meant, she became irritated with me. I asked her to draw me a picture, which I do not remember seeing. When I showed up at the hospital for the surgery, they called it a "partial labiectomy!!" I had NO idea that she was going to cutboff part of my labia! But, she did! And then - when I was home recovering, I started to bleed. I bled so much that my sister and 12 year old daughter had to rush me to the emergency room in the middle-of-the-night. At the emergency room,they ended up telling me that the stitches had come out, so they restitched me. When I returned to DR. Wilber's office, she told me that I must have moved around too much and thus dislodged the stitches. Mind you, I had asked my sister to come up from Portland to wait on me afternthe surgery because I knew I was not going to be able to move! I was in bed the whole time, except when I had to go to the bathroom. The issue was obviously with the poor workmanship of Dr. Wilber. After I had healed and a few months had gone by, I returned to Dr. Wilber's office. I told them that I had a bump on my cervix and wondered if that was OK. They said, "How do you know" and I said, "I felt it" and they said, "There is no way that you could feel your cervix with your own finger." That is when I was reminded how NOT women and patient centered this office was. Please avoid Dr. Wilber, for your own safety. I can't believe I have waited this long to tell my story. But, there it is - please avoid going to Dr. Wilber. I now am left living with a very bazaar looking labia.​ read more

Yikes. Do not go see this "doctor". Nothing worse than going to a doctor for help and then needing a therapist after seeing the doctor. She came in the room like a monsoon storm. She was so loud; I tried to speak softer so she would realize it. But I think the amount of caffeine she must be consuming was too overwhelming to notice anything going on in the room. This was my first visit with her; and will be my last. $150.00 for 10 minutes with her and I want my money back. She did not listen; she did all the talking. When I tried to ask a question and asked her to slow down she said "Most people do their research themselves on line these days". OOHHHHHhhh whoops my bad! Worst experience I've ever had at an annual exam. She did not listen, talked the entire time, and gave no warning about when she was poking and prodding me. She was in the room with me for 10 minutes at most (exam included) and seemed incredibly rushed the entire time. I had a couple questions/concerns I wanted to discuss with her, and I felt like she didn't leave me moment to ask them. I was finally able to ask 1 question, and she gave me a bunch of pamphlets about the possible issues that might be causing it, instead of actually explaining things to me. Bottom line - if you're looking for a respectful doctor who will listen to your concerns, look elsewhere. read more

Love Dr Wilber! She's been my OB ever since I first needed those services, and I got her name from my best friend, who also loves her. She is very energetic, knowledgeable, thorough, and has a way of calming my worries and putting things in perspective. Her office staff - from the ladies at the front desk to the ultrasound technician - is as top notch as she is. With my first pregnancy, they advised me to read all the books I wanted, and to call the office with as many questions as I could come up with, but to try not to research pregnancy questions online as there is so much conflicting information out there. They happily answered all my questions, major and minor, and they're always delightful when I visit the office. I highly recommend Dr Wilber! read more

I am a physician. Dr Wilber spends a lot of time talking with patients, and with a cheerful attitude. Did not pressure us to have expensive ultrasound testing, like every other OB office did. I even had to ask about the absence of trying to sell us on expensive and unnecessary testing. I have since given her name to several of my own patients who were looking for OB/GYN care. read more

We did not have a good experience with the OB/GYN we used for our first pregnancy so I asked around for my second pregnancy and was highly recommended to Dr Wilber. She provides great advice on a healthy pregnancy and puts all of these strict 'pregnancy guidelines' into perspective. The new Polyclinic facility is top of the line and has the ultrasounds and lab work onsite! The two caveats I have are paying for parking everytime I see her and having to wait at least 30 minutes each time to see her. read more

If you are looking for a low stress first pregnancy I would not recommend Dr. Wilbur or the polyclinic. 1) Clinic called to reschedule my first appointment (which would confirm my pregnancy) one day before I was scheduled to see Dr. Wilbur. Luckily I was able to flexible but my husband was not pleased in having to scramble to rearrange his schedule last minute. 2) Ultrasound techs are not thorough which required me to have to come back for a follow up after my first ultrasound just to rule things out. Findings were normal making this a waste of time and money. 3) Pressured/Scared into having genetic testing done even though I expressed multiple times that I did not want it. Even though they are in my network as a provider, they used an out of network lab for the DNA/Carrier blood work which is mostly likely going to cost me thousands. Just found this out with my first bill. 4) My husband waited over two weeks to hear the results to his blood work and had to call multiple times a day for 3 days to "have his results interpreted". Each time he called the person on the phone said the results were in but a nurse needed to call him back to "interpret" the results. He was on pins and needles for days with no call back. If you are healthy and assuming you will have a normal pregnancy I would avoid going to the polyclinic. They put me through the ringer and in the end all the extra lab work, testing and ultrasounds show that my baby is healthy and that there should be no complications with my pregnancy. Save yourself the stress and MONEY avoid polyclinic and Dr. Wilbur. Dr. Wilbur seems like a nice woman but I really wish that she had listened to me and been more of an advocate for me, my husband and my baby. read more

My husband and I were having trouble conceiving for about a year before we decided to see a fertility expert who ended up being Dr. Wilber. We both loved her immediately and feel so fortunate to be in her care. She was reassuring, calming, responsive, supportive, educational and funny in that initial visit and has continued to be so consistently throughout my pregnancy, delivery and post-partum care. One of the many things I love about her is her pragmatism and patient-centrist approach that is never judgmental or patronizing. I've recommended her to all my friends and even brought my parents to meet her. She's like a family member to us. I've lived in four of the top metropolitan cities in America and The Polyclinic is by far the best care I've ever received. read more

Never go to this "Doctor". She has been sued for malpractice 3 times. You can look it up at the Washington Court website. She caused the the problems that ultimately lead to the death of my daughter. At trial she hired expert witnesses that lied through their teeth. Most of our witnesses were people that refused to be her witness once they learned what she had done and what her lawyers wanted them to say. When my Wife went into labor she was given morphine and sent home because it wasn't time for delivery. When we arrived back at Swedish Med Ctr later we were told to have a seat and they would be right out for us. About 20min later I asked what the hold up was and it turned out they had forgot about us. We were the only people in the waiting area so how could you forget about us. Then "Dr." Wilber showed up about 45 minutes later. Our Daughter had apparently been in distress for quite a while but it wasn't detected because Ellen Wilber gave my wife morphine and sent her home rather than monitoring her at the hospital and then took her time getting to the hospital several hours later. Never trust this woman with the life of your unborn child. read more

I saw Dr. Ellen Wilber. This has been one of the worst experiences with OB GYN doc. First of all, Dr. Willber's assitant Angela was rude and pushy. She couldn't even say my name right after I had corrected her! Great attention to what patients' words! Then, I had to wait for more than 1 hour (half of the time already undressed after the initial blood pressure/weight/etc measurements in the cold office). I was trying to keep my spirits up: afterall I came to see the doctor not her assistant... But the doctor was not rushing to come. Finally Dr. Willber popped up to see me for a few... Literally. She was so obviously on the run and trying to keep up with the time, that her patient turn around was so clearly paramount to her. She spoke very quickly and barely read my history. I am undergoing a treatment, which made sensitive in the obvious area. Knowing that Dr. Wilber spread me wide open in a fraction of a second, which quite hurt me. She obviously did not take into consideration my condition. Overall I got 15 min of doc's attention after waiting for more than 1 hour. Can somebody advise a nice, caring and knowledgeable doctor in the Polyclinic please? read more

A couple years ago I went to Dr. Wilber because my primary Dr at the Polyclinic suspected I'd need a hysterectomy. My consult with her was distressing. Her bed side manner is very direct and impersonal, she told me I would need an abdominal hysterectomy, that I would loose a lot of blood in surgery and that I would probably need a transfusion. She suggested I donate my own blood before surgery. She scared me! As soon as I left her office I broke down in tears. She wanted me to have an MRI right away but when the results of the MRI came in I couldn't get them because Dr Wilber was on vacation (so was my primary Dr.). The overworked chaotic office staff would not or could not get another OB/GYN or nurse to call me back with the results, I tried for a week to get the results. I was frantic! Also, her surgery assistant was less than helpful (rude really) when I asked about surgery date options. I sought a second opinion and asked that Dr. to get the results of my MRI, she did that very day. I chose to go with the Dr. outside of the Polyclinic because I felt comfortable with her. Glad I did because the surgery was long and complicated. Thankfully the surgeon I chose and her staff were superb. Also, I didn't have to get a blood transfusion. Nor was it recommended I donate my own blood. read more

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Wilbur. I wish I had trusted my instincts and went with another doctor. I had pre-e and was not taken seriously. I had a migraine for 1 week and was always told to just go home and rest. When my blood pressure wouldn't go down, Dr. Wilbur actually accused me of not really being on bedrest. I ended up being induced and endured 36 hours of labor before a c-section was performed - at that point my daughter was in distress. They also held me down to insert a catheter (I didn't want one) after only being in labor for 2 hours, and thus I wasn't really able to move around much. I could go on and on...I honestly think I had PTSD from my birth experience. I had Dr. Wilbur and then Dr. Agress - both were unemotional and dismissive. Dr. Wilbur talks so much that I could hardly ever get a word in. I will NEVER go to Polyclinic OB/GYNs again for fear of ending up with Wilbur at my birth. I think an animal giving birth would have been given more respect than I was given. read more

I guess some of the reviewers don't know how to judge personality and or misjudge...I miss Dr. Wilber! I moved to S. Cal. and wish I could find an OBGYN like her but to no avail...I have been to 2 different drs. so far. She was the most direct (no messing around), honest opinion and straightforward doctor I knew. She knew what she was talking about...and YES, she does talk a lot (as some of the minor reviewers say) but she gave me so much information during her chats with me and if some of these reviewers would just listen to what she was saying they are very good advice given! I'm so sick of these fake polite acting doctors that don't even remember you the next time around. She does not mess around. I almost had a miscarriage (almost 14 years ago- yes, this review is way over due!) because I worked/labor so hard and my placenta had broke and I made an emergency call to her in the middle of the night...she told me there is nothing we could do now as if I was having a miscarriage to let it be, and if I wasn't it would heal itself...so to come in the morning first thing. When I did she gave me a hard lesson about working during my trimester of pregnancy! She meant it and actually raised her voice "if you want to keep this baby, you need to stop working so hard!". My placenta mended itself and I gave birth via c-section to a healthy smart baby. Yes, and she also fixed an ugly scar given to me by my first OBGYN when I had my previous child. My c-section scar is almost invisible. I wish people would be fair and see that she is a no non sense, very intelligent doctor and really knows her stuff. read more

Dr. Wilber saved the lives of both my babies (now teenagers). My first pregnancy was complicated from early on. I experienced high blood pressure, bed rest then an early delivery. Dr. Wilber was an absolute gift. I experienced the devastating loss of a loved one early in my pregnancy and she was both doctor and counselor as I navigated my grief. During my second pregnancy my health was greatly improved but yet again I had to traverse the overwhelming loss of a loved one. Dr. Wilber was a guiding light, caring, compassionate and steadfast. My second child was born non-responsive and not breathing. Dr. Wilber was well aware of the baby's distress and had neonatal in the delivery room ready to intervene and provide immediate, life-saving care. We were all so blessed to have her care. I'm eternally grateful! Best OBGYN in Seattle! I'm a patient for life. read more

I'm watching my wife walking out the door to work in tears this morning. This supposed doctor whom my wife had to schedule a appointment a month in advance with heavy bleeding and got to hear her straight to the point direct all business as one review stated cancer scare speech has been waiting 3 weeks on biopsy results. My wife still bleeding has called her office 9 times in the last 2 weeks and the receptionist has told my wife with every call that the results are in and the doctor needs to discuss the results with her. Do you think that this SUPPOSED doctor has the compassion common decency and professionalism to even return a phone call noooooo. People you would be better off going to a veterinarian at least they have the intelligence and compassion to dial a telephone and don't have to keep a malpractice lawyer on retainer. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Wilber's for over ten years, and I cannot say enough good things about her! She delivered my two youngest children, and has seen me through some health scares as well. She is compassionate, kind, and extremely capable. She has never talked down to me, and always takes the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. I referred her to two of my close friends, and they adore her equally. One of my friends had a complicated pregnancy, but Dr. Wilber helped guide her through it and she went on to have a beautiful baby girl. You share a lot with the person who takes care of you through your pregnancies. She has been a always been a calm, clear voice as well as knowledgable and interested. I feel so awful for these women who had poor experiences but I can only sing praise for Dr. Wilber and The Polyclinic. Everyone I've interacted with at the clinic has been very helpful and kind. Ellen Wilber is energetic and full of spunk.....I love this about her. She always comes in with a smile, is easy to talk to and would always gives it to me without the fluff or fear factor.....she's a straight shooter! I always feel known when I go see her and not just like another chart. I do have to admit that I'm quite the extrovert, with a type A personality, so I always enjoy her exuberance. Dr. Wilber has been my OB-GYN 20 years. She has seen me through 3 high risk pregnancies, two miscarriages, and other health issues. She has always been there to celebrate the joys of becoming a parent and to comfort and help through the rough times. She takes the time to ask about my family and how I am doing health wise. When I was freaked out during the c-section for my third child because my second child had been an emergency c-section she took the time to reassure me everything was fine and every step of the way made sure I was ok. I absolutely tease her that she talk really fast and loud but that is just her and doesn't take away from the fact that she is a great and compassionate doctor who knows her stuff. I wouldn't continue to drive an hour each way to see her for the past 15 years if i didn't trust her with my care. read more

I had a very bad experience at a busy and popular clinic in Seattle when I had my first child. (Too many to mention and they lacked care). I decided to research for another one. I found Dr. Wilbur; Poly Clinic in Seattle referred by my insurance company. I am not quick to judge but was impressed she listened to me very well during my first visit and sympathized with my issues I had with my first OBGYN and their partners. I have been going to her ever since. This is 10 years later. I drive all the way from Snohomish to see her as I would not look for anyone else even if it was closer. I also had two c-sections and she delivered my second one and there is hardly a scar visible now. (The first one used staples that were coming apart and fell out during recovery as well as the lack of care from the on call doctor who answered my complaint of pus oozing out of it. This later left an ugly scar)- this was one of my care issues for me to seek another OBGYN)- The amazing thing is when I had my second c-sections she went over my old one and removed or fixed the scar and now there is almost nothing visible. (I told her she would be an excellent plastic surgeon!)- she almost always remembers me and what I had told her from my previous visits, even the petty things. She is never pushy but puts a firm discipline on her advice to me if she feels I am not obeying her 'doctors orders'. (I almost had a miscarriage from working too hard and lifting heavy objects during my second and broke or ripped my placentia where bleeding occured overnite). I thought I had a miscarriage during my 5/6th month and made an emergency call to her. I saw her the next morning becasue if I was having a miscarriage there was nothing she could do at that time anyways and there could be a chance everything was fine (which it was). She gave me rational advice and very firm doctors orders - I could tell that she really cared for me and the health of my baby. If I could do it all over again and knew about her, I would of gone to her for my first to have avoided the bad experience with the other one. I like the way she is always full of energy and life and is pumped up to serve her patients. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Wilber for a number of years, through 3 full term pregnancies. All of my babies were rather large and, fortunately, I was able to deliver all 3 vaginally. The first was slightly complicated but all ended well. I see there are a few unhappy people. Dr. Wilber is direct but NOT in a negative manner. She is VERY caring in all aspects. She's thoughtful too and always asks about my children at every appointment. OB doctors are very busy and on the rare occasion she wasn't available one of her awesome partners stepped in. Since I started seeing her I moved 2 hours away but liked her so much I continue to see her. During my last pregnancy I was far away and she made sure the hospital new I was coming from a long distance so I could check in "early". Later pregnancies tend to come faster and my last one certainly did, within 5 minutes of checking into the delivery room! If I had not listened to her I may have very well delivered on the freeway. read more
