I am visiting NJ on my way to my son's wedding in Madrid next week. I purchased a beautiful Jon Renau long style wig back home and have been trying to create an updo for the wedding. I needed help! I called Wigs by Barbara and spoke with Frank who was able to accommodate me with an appointment same day! When I arrived, there were 3 women who began working with me. Apparently no one ever properly fitted the wig to my head and they took care of that. They also sewed in some clips to give me confidence it would stay put, as the headband wasn't sufficient to hold the weight of the updo reliably. They trimmed the lace at the forehead. Maria even did a quick updo style to show me that it was indeed possible to wear this piece that way. I have dealt with 4-5 wig shops in my home state over the last 20 years and this one is by far the finest. The level of service they provide is exceptional! They understand these products well and how to fit them properly, style them beautifully, and have you leave feeling so good about yourself and confident. I cannot say enough about this business and how well they take care of their clients. As I was sitting there waiting for my fitting, another women walked by me and said that I was in very good hands with Maria and the others. He hair looked amazing. She told me she had been coming there for 20 years. That in itself is a testament to this business. I highly recommend Wigs by Barbara and hope to purchase my next piece from them! read more

Going through breast cancer treatment and facing hair loss has been one of the hardest parts of my journey. Finding Wigs by Barb was an absolute blessing. From my very first call with Frank, I felt cared for. He took the time to understand my needs and had everything prepared for my visit. I flew across the country to meet him and Maria, and it was worth every mile. I tried on several wigs, and they spent so much time with me, never making me feel rushed for even a moment. They welcomed me like family, showed such compassion, and turned what could have been a heartbreaking day into one filled with laughter and comfort. The wigs they chose look just like my real hair, and the quality of the hair itself is incredible. The humanity, care, and craftsmanship they provide are truly extraordinary and an experience I'll never forget. read more

Frank was amazing to work with. I live in Pittsburgh and his shops in New Jersey, one of the easiest deals for a quality wig. The hair is so soft and they fit the cap to your own head measurements. Highly recommended. They are working with my insurance company too. Thank you!!! read more

While proudly celebrating 50 years in business, one would think Wigs by Barbara would have the professional capacity to pay their suppliers for the merchandise that is displayed in the front window. As a fellow small business owner, and one who is holding an unpaid $3,000+ invoice (since 2019), I am appalled by the unprofessional arrogance demonstrated by displaying (and selling) "stolen" products. In addition, I am beyond embarrassed to have my brand associated with your business. I'd deeply appreciate having my products removed from your window and display cases, and would appreciate payment on the outstanding invoice (purchase order #8 June 2019) before you celebrate another day of disrespecting anyone else in our industry. In addition, I did not authorize your use of my image that is displayed on this Yelp page and demand that it be removed immediately. E. Lisa Brambilla Founder |CEO SurvivorEyes Inc read more

Honestly if I could leave them zero stars I would. Believe me when I tell you do not go here... my husband was diagnosed with cancer and needed a wig 1 year ago... the wig is a joke... he looks like a woman in it or possibly shaggy from scooby doo.... As far as payment they made us pay up front for it, billed the insurance company which paid 100% ... we are still waiting for our refund a year later... after a bounced check and multiple I will give you cash in a few weeks still nothing... please don't go here... it is a headache and not worth the aggravation... these people should be ashamed of themselves... taking advantage of sick people.... Shame on you Wigs by Barbara.... read more

My daughter and I were came to wigs by Barbara after she had lost a considerable amount of hair for some reason. Frank and the staff were excellent with us. He helped navigated the issue with her insurance. They helped her find a wig she actually loved, which anyone with a teenager knows is not easy. Thank you for everything! read more

DO NOT go to this store in Springfield!!!!!!!!!!! They feed you all this bullshit, tell you how they can get you or make you a wig to look exactly like your real hair and then, they just can't deliver! They are full of SHIT not to mention Shady! They keep you sitting in the room for hours trying to figure out a way to make the wig look somewhat wearable, but they just don't know how. Their customer service is pathetic! This experience with this store and their employees has been 100 times more stressful than my cancer diagnosis. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU NEED A WIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They get complaints all the time. The State of NJ has had to go there several times due to complaints from customers. read more

Frank did a fabulous job. I sent him pictures of my hair and said I wanted a wig that looked like my hair. When I arrived he had the perfect wig. It was real hair and the perfect color and looked amazing. I bought it on the spot and they fitted it for me right there and I walked out with it on. The wig is beautiful and makes me feel beautiful. I have been to other wig shops and this was an amazing experience. Trust your gut I did and I'm so happy! read more

I'll start by saying ... what an amazing experience and anyone that says otherwise is truly out of their mind... I was treated so kind and with such compassion. Frank and his team treated me like family from the moment I started discussing while I was there And what was hoping for. They didn't stop with me and stayed in touch the entire time while they were making me the perfect wig and until I was completely happy and comfortable turning the one I loved into a masterpiece with colors and fabric, style, fit and cut etc... this was hands down an amazing experience and what beautiful souls they truly truly are. About 5 years ago I realized my hairs was getting so thin. When I saw the sides receding & I saw my visible scalp & I freaked!! So I went on a mission to find a topper that looked real. I didn't need a wig. I went to a few places & they were so expensive & didn't even look like human hair. I found Wigs by Barbara so I figured I'll go. My next step was NY. Much to my surprise This place was & still is incredible. I was greeted by Barbara & she knew exactly what I needed. It's a family business started by her Father. I got my first topper that matched my highlights perfectly! Five years later I wanted another one . I was greeted by her son . He stepped in where Barbara left off. She is semi retired. He found the perfect one. It needed different highlights. He said they would do the highlights. I called today & he said he decided to have them sewn in! iAnyone who has hair loss from cancer or alopecia please go . I promise you will be amazed!! read more

Over charged. Quality was not as promised. I did not know this because it was my only experience. Another provider shared other pieces with me that were MUCH better quality and the same price. Frank didn't remember that I paid part in cash and argued that I owed $. Thank goodness for receipts! Over billed my insurance company and I had to pay the balance. Did not style as I wished. Had to return multiple times and eventually cut it myself. Only the actual wig maker told them that what they were trying to sell to me did not fit properly. read more

I can't say enough great things about my experience at Wigs By Barbara. If you're looking for a quality wig you definitely won't be disappointed. When I called I spoke with Frank & I was able to get an appointment the same day. When I got there they fitted my wig by taking measurements, fitting it, making adjustments until it fit perfectly without a cap, tape, glue and I can flip my head upside down and the wig isn't going anywhere. Then a stylist comes in and asks how would I like it styled? He made suggestions on how to style it. He made it look so natural. Honestly you couldn't tell it was a wig. They explained how to care for it, how to put it on, answered all my questions and I had alot of questions. Everyone was so kind, very knowledgeable, caring and patient. I am fighting cancer for a third time. I don't mind wearing scarves & hats but I have my sons college graduation next month and don't feel comfortable wearing a hat or scarf. I went to several wig shops in New York City and New Jersey and have a few wigs, none that fit without glue or tape & none that looked natural. I was never measured before. Thank you Frank, Joe & everyone at Wigs By Barbara for everything. I didn't only walk out with a beautiful, quality wig that fit perfectly I left with confidence, dignity and a smile that I haven't had in a very long time. read more

I have been going to this wig shop far before these people --Wigs by Barbara took over. I never had any issues they were lovely. Now Wigs by Barbara took over. I gave them a 50 percent deposit for a new fall. I was promised it would be gorgeous and I would be happy. I waited and waited. Every month there was a different excuse. Covid, supply, color impossible ( soft black) and many other excuses. I waited 6 months. Then after that. I was told Nine months for a custom hair piece. After I had already waited a long time. Argued with the son of the owner and said I would not wait Nine months and I was never told that. Do u want you money back. YES. ..... I went and got my money. And was told he tried everything and everyone to satisfy me. HOWEVER. If I had acquiesced to nine months. He would have kept me on the string still lying to me. Oh of course if I gave him more money. He could POSSIBLY get me what I wanted.. DONT believe them....... He lie the entire time. Hoping he would find somebody ,anyone to give me what I wanted. All he had to do was tell the truth. UNABLE TO DO THAT.. HE lost the SALE and a great customer I read more

I was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma. Have been going for treatments and in a few weeks will have a stem cell transplant. The most upsetting thing for me is loosing my hair. Thru my health insurance, i was given an appointment to get a wig. The place was far from me so I called the insurance to make an appointment closer to where I live. She had other places, but made me aware there was one place, the same distance as the other but had a great reputation and great selection and there were patients that will not go any other place. I said it was ok if she thought that highly of them. She contacted them and within a few minutes I received a call to set up an appointment with Elaine. Got there an hour early, stood outside the door thinking if I should go for a walk when the door opened up and this nice gentleman said come in.(I am terrible with names, cannot remember his) but I remember how friendly and attentive he was. Made me feel that I was in a very special place. Made me feel special and at home. Elaine, treated me with a lot of care and compassion. She really knew her business. I have to go back as she has to cut my hair short to be able to fit the wig. I am looking forward to see again this wonderful group of human beings, the owners and employees of this caring place called WIGS BY BARBARA. God Bless you all. I am a 52 year old mother of 4 that was recently diagnosed with cancer. One of the most important things to me is to remain looking like me to my children. When I found out I was going to lose my hair I started to research all of the wig places in New Jersey. A friend of mine told me about Wigs By Barbara, she got the most beautiful wig and she raved about them so I went and was very impressed. I then went to 3 other places and then went back to Wigs by Barbara. Not only was Frank extremely helpful, he was also very caring. My insurance did not cover anything, he said " then we will help you fight them." He and his employee Maria went above and beyond to find the perfect fit for me. I was there for hours trying to find myself in all of these wigs, their selection is very large. I ended up finding 3 wigs that are perfect!!! Frank with Maria at his side did not disappoint. Professional, clean, thoughtful, caring and the list can go on. They made me feel like they really cared about ME, I highly highly recommend them. read more

We could not have been more pleased. Frank and the women who work there are warm, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. They made us feel like family. They understand how difficult losing your hair can be and walk you through the whole process. read more

When you get the diagnosis of cancer it hits you like a brick. Imagine hearing your 19 year old daughter has cancer, hits even harder. After her 2nd round of chemo she started losing clumps of hair which was one of the hardest things to watch as her mom (her hair was thick, healthy & down to her butt). I spoke to her about a wig, we cried, we got angry but she wasn't quite ready to go look. I took the list provided by her oncologist and at the top was Wigs By Barbara, so I looked at the website and then made the call. It was a difficult call to make but, Frank was empathetic to what my daughter was going through, he sent me pictures of wigs he had in mind and I sent him pics of my daughters hair. Frank said "I have the perfect wig for your daughter" I made an appointment for us to go in the next day (which was her 20th birthday) so it was a bittersweet day for her. When we got there, we immediately felt welcomed and at home, which was extremely comforting. We went into one of the rooms and talked about different options and what to expect. Frank sat & spoke with my daughter and as she began to cry Frank said, "we're here for you every step of the way and we will get through this together". As her mom (who was fighting back tears) had an instant feeling of relief. Frank brought the wig in for my daughter to see and try on, she still wasn't ready so she sat for a few, got herself composed and tried it on. She looked absolutely beautiful and I saw a sparkle in her eyes. While we were there, they did cut her hair (with her permission) and took some of her own hair and weaved it into the wig which was the icing on the cake for my daughter! She gets a beautiful wig and has some of her own hair in it, who could ask for more? A couple of hours after we got home, I received a call from Frank as he wanted to check in and see how my daughter and I were doing. I wasn't expecting a call but it was comforting to know that Frank cared enough to check in on us. Everyone was friendly, professional, thoughtful and very caring and understanding of the situation we were going through. The salon is super clean and the fact that there are private rooms make the experience and very difficult time a lot easier to get through. WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE for a wig!!! read more

This place is a SCAM!!!!!!! I was diagnosed with Brain Cancer at 27 years old. I lost my hair to radiation. I am writing this review a year after purchasing 2 wigs. Frank completely took advantage of my low self-esteem and scammed me into paying cash. He also said he was going to charge my insurance the 500.00 that covered a portion of the wig. Got a statement from my health insurance and realized he charged my insurance company $592.00. I had to pay the additional charge of $92.00 out of pocket. Frank repetitively told me to write good reviews before I left and I felt totally vulnerable. I am glad I waited before writing a review because I wanted to see how the wigs held up, and honestly I could have gotten a better quality wig at a more reasonable price. Don't fall into this scam like I did!!! DO NOT BUY WIGS HERE!!!! read more

Since my last review, I've had the mixed blessing to avail a friend of Wigs by Barbara's exceptional services. Not only are they stocked with quality hair pieces and accessories, but they treat each case with a compassion that carries on their own family tradition and makes you feel like one of their own. In addition to providing two perfect prosthetics for my friend, they prepared her insurance paperwork, guided her in the shaving her own head, advised her daughter on the donation of her hair with which to create a wig that they will be making on premises. All done with kindness, patience and utmost professionalism. There is enough to worry about when cancer or other diseases take their toll. Insurance providers, deductibles and HMOs should not be part of your wellness conversations. Let Wigs by Barbara take you in and take care of you. You will not be disappointed. read more

I wish I would of read the reviews on here prior. My wife and I went to this store and immediately were treated rudely by an older women. But my wife unfortunately is dealing with alopecia so we both ignored it at first for my wife's sake. But every question we asked or anything we did was treated with a rude remark or an attitude as if we were children. I am one to avoid confrontation but we finally told the woman we are sorry you are being incredibly rude and left. She was so rude we felt the need to write a review on yelp. After reading the reviews there was mention of racism. It didn't even occur til then that this was a possibility as my wife is Hispanic. It may of been that or maybe the women is just a horrible person. Either way if you can try finding an alternative place. It's a shame as there are people that have medical conditions effecting theirs lives and on top of that need to deal with people like this woman. read more

I went here the other day with my 4 years old daughter to look for cranial prosthesis. As I walk in I heard a loud noise lady talking. The place was nice and clean but I felt discomfort and found the staff races. They put me in the room with my child and sat there for 10 min. Lady came back with the wig and tried them on and ask How much was it and I was in shock when she said $1800 and I told her that I was in budget but I find it over price. When she found out I was in budget she immediately gave an attitude and shes giving my daughter a nasty look. So I told them I will have to sleep on it first and will give them a call. I just cant wait to get out there I find them races and taking advantage on people like me that has cancer with over price wigs. read more

I was diagnosed with breast cancer just 2 days after my wedding so along with having the stress of all the glorious-ness that comes from everything wedding-related, I now had to deal with finding a wig and all the insurance headaches that come along with that as well as the emotional toll that cancer causes. Barbara made me feel very at ease with her understanding and she immediately found the perfect wig for me, which I'm told looks even better than the hair I used to have. Anthony worked with me and my insurance company, which eased that major headache. Vincent listened to how I wanted my wig styled and made it look gorgeous. These 3 people work well together as a team and because of their quirkiness (which I love), made my sitting in a chair, donating my hair ... an unforgettable event where I (to this day) have never shed a tear because they made me laugh that day. I never thought I'd be sitting in a chair, getting my hair cut and then shaved ... and I'd be laughing. I thank the 3 of them for making what could have been a devastating day, a fun day. Now my treatments are over and I am still going to continue going back to this salon to get my wig washed and styled. I look forward to seeing all of them in their wonderful quirkiness which still makes me laugh every time I walk in there. 5 Stars! read more

I 100% agreed with those that claims that "the woman" is RUDE. "The rude woman" is the owner, Barbara. I purchased a wig because I am undergoing chemo. I have been back multiple times since my purchase for adjustments because I first purchased the wig when I still had my hair. The women who actually worked with me with the adjustments were WONDERFUL and kind. And then there's Michael and Barbara. I had a 2:00 appointment for an adjustment. After I arrived and after they took my wig to adjust (it needed to be made smaller), another customer came in (who was EARLY for her appointment). I heard Barbara say to the women who were working on my wig to take care of this newly arrived customer because she is a GOOD customer. I believe that I was put on hold. I heard the other woman ("the GOOD customer") leave. The walls in that place are paper thin. I was there for close to 2 hours...in a room...never visited by Barbara. So, I have cancer and my wig is most likely temporary...I guess that doesn't classify me as a "good" customer. On another note, there is Michael. He claims to be a facilitator for the Look Good Feel Better program. Michael has PROMISED to email me the schedule of meetings at LEAST 3 times. I have yet to receive anything from him. In summary, my wig is fine. People who know me but do not know about my illness "love my haircut.". The wig is shorter than my original hair was. The women who DO THE WORK at Wigs by Barbara are knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. The woman, Barbara, who LOUDLY greets you can appear rude and can appear not to give a hoot about customer service unless you will be a regular customer. As a final note: after the review above was posted, Michael called my home and promised to mail to me the information that I didn't get. He explained the reasons that the woman in the next room had preferential treatment. OK, I understand. He also said that they were working on my wig the entire time. I am not sure if I buy into that but that's the explanation I got. Had I known of the length of time I would be waiting, I would have brought work in with me. I was told when I arrived that it wouldn't take long. Michael explained that he was busy with other clients and that was the reason he did not have the opportunity to give me the requested information and due "to HIPA privacy restrictions" the information and schedule of sessions could not be emailed electronically to me. There is no untruth in my review posted above but I do publicly thank Michael for calling to discuss the review. He DID welcome me to the shop if I ever need any other adjustments or services. I am hoping that in the future more care and kindness will be given to ANYONE and EVERYONE who chooses to visit Wigs by Barbara. I would hope that no other client (patient) is left to sit in a room for such a long time without some visit from the owners to check on them. I am not displeased with my wig at all. It looks great and now fits great. Because of the phone call and Michael's promises, I am raising my 2 stars to 3 stars. read more
