The end result of his representation was that he never once spoke to so much as one person with an interest in the case, over a period of one full year from the date we hired him. I discovered this fact, due to a call from a very frustrated insurance representative who was very interested in settling the case, and who had chanced defying a request to only contact Mr. Silvey, whom never once returned any calls placed to his office. When I contacted Mr. Silvey to confront him with what had been told to me, his immediate and only response was that he would be paid in full, despite my obvious dissatisfaction with him at the moment, but I was free to hire someone else if I so desired. The contract we signed specifically stated that he would receive a third of any settlement only if the case went to court. He would receive 25% if it was settled out of court. As he did nothing to assist us, under any criteria imaginable, we were basically forced into accepting a first offer from the other party's insurance company. What we received was not even enough to cover my wife's medical bills. One-third was deducted from the settlement amount, although it was settled out of court. Why? Because as I unfortunately discovered, at the time we signed the contract for representation, he deceptively failed to provide us a copy of it, so that I could contest his fee amount. I was denied of course at that point, a copy of the contract. I strongly advise anyone to avoid this Attorney like the plague. He has no shame whatsoever and I see him as nothing more than a scam artist. And that I would swear to under oath and on the stand.

In late 2024, I requested a small task -- a file extension -- which I estimated would take 30 minutes. I asked Trip for a breakdown of the time and charges after receiving an unexpected invoice for $650+. I never received a clear response, despite following up. Months later, he sent a revised invoice for $350 -- again, without my agreement -- and eventually escalated the matter to debt collection charging me $842. To be clear: I made multiple attempts to resolve the dispute directly, including offering to pay for the 30 minutes of work I requested. My messages went unanswered for long stretches, and I was given no explanation for the charges beyond vague references to time spent. Being sent to collections over a disputed charge -- without any willingness to engage -- is not something I take lightly. I've worked with many collaborators over the years and never encountered anything like this. I share this to help others make an informed decision. Work with Trip only if you're comfortable with a lack of communication and the risk of escalation over relatively minor disputes.

Oftentimes, you leave their office wondering if their isn't a better resource and why you pay them. HHM is a breathe of fresh air. Yes, you'll pay a premium rate. But good advice/service comes with a price. If you're looking to get a simple personal tax return done, you can probably pay a small fee elsewhere. But if you are a business owner, have ownership in multiple entities, etc., you really need an expert in your corner (there are too many areas that a lot of CPAs overlook or simply know nothing about). With various partners in the firm, each brings a different area of expertise. I've only dealt with Kyle Christensen to this point. He's very professional, personable (yes, a personable CPA) and will certainly point you to another partner if his expertise doesn't match your needs. I recommend Kyle (and HHM) as often as possible. (Be sure to tell him you read Byron's Yelp review, if this was a factor in calling him).
