Hence there is no way I will have used any data roaming. The issue is no-one wants to help, 1010 simply pass me around to difference departments/people and noone does anything. I have been a customer for over 30yrs would you believe, and this is how they are treating me! Thanks to CSL and a collaboration with Discover Hong Kong, one can purchase a tourist SIM card for $88 for 5 days or $118 for 8 days. The local calls are unlimited, which is particularly handy with calling local friends, local services, and checking out local businesses (via the Yelp app, naturally). The real kicker is there is 4G data as well, up to 5GB of it. I've surfed extensively on it and even tethered with it, and it works extremely well. The local phone # assigned can last for up to 6 months and data coverage can be extended into Macau, Mainland China, and Taiwan for $40HKD a day with 40MB. It's not much, but it sure beats having to constantly swap out cards all the time. Since CSL is the other major provider in this card, one has access to a bunch of their hot spots located throughout the city. While the card is rechargable, it is only for voice calling to my understanding. Once the data is gone, the data is done. There is also an additional charge .45 HKD a minute for international calls, which is extremely reasonable compared to other local SIMs. If there is a line, wait for it. They have people in there who know how to install the SIM and activate the plan all without you saying a word or handling your phone. They're fast, efficient, and they accept credit cards. Anyone staying in HK for an extended period of time should definitely make this their first pit stop after arrival.

If you have any problems, go to any China Mobile and the helpful guys will fix it for you. Also, if you run out of minutes, you can top up at any China Mobile location, of which there are many in Hong Kong. They all speak English. Also, there's 24/7 tech support that speaks English on the phone. Be sure to sign up for the unlimited data immediately or you will be charged for data per minute. This will run down your card to zero in just 2 hours if you have a lot of apps on your phone that require background data. Instructions for doing so are included with your card in English and Chinese.

For just $72 a month, Telecom Digital provides unlimited (or a very large amount of... I'm not sure which, but I never run out) mobile data and phone calls. If I'm not wrong, this is the cheapest Internet plan in Hong Kong. Some of my friends complain to me about their phone bill being a couple hundred this month. I'm used to paying $72 a month, so just the idea of paying more than twice of that for what essentially is the same service is unthinkable to me! When I tell people that my phone internet bill is just $72 a month, their first reaction is usually something along the lines of 'so cheap?! It must be really slow!' But that's where they're wrong. I can use Safari and text on Whatsapp just fine, and I rarely have issues with my 3G randomly cutting off. However, watching videos is not ideal because it takes quite a while for them to buffer, and it's also really hard to download applications from the App Store. But for $72 a month, I'm really not complaining. I mean, how often would my life depend on whether or not I'm able to watch YouTube video or download an app while I'm outside? Phone bills are paid at the end of every month at any Telecom Digital shop. Since I live in Sha Tin, this is extremely convenient because there's one opposite the Tai Wai Station, one in Sha Tin Plaza and I'm sure there are a couple more too. I don't even have to go out of my way to pay my phone bills! Overall, I'm very satisfied with the service they provide and at such an affordable price too!

However, a googled search led me finding this store before the immigration check point. The store has all the av and pre paid sim card needs. Because it's not as crowded as the stored at the arrival lobby, the service is more attentive. Based on length no of stay and data needs, the staff was able to recommend the plan that's best for me. They even installed the card for me and make sure my mobile hotspot was working. No need to fight the line and attention at the other stores!

Pretty painless and a free experience. A rare event in HK where there is a tendency to up sell, not bother with the customer because there is no profit or simple ignore you or even be rude.

I learned the hard way there is no such thing as unlimited plans anymore, but they managed to help me find the next best thing (10GB) for a little more than the cost of my initial tourist SIM. They tinkered around with several SIMs, hoping to find one that would work. They were such pros that they also helped fix my faulty audio jack and clean my phone interior at no charge! How's that for service? English seems to be ok, which might be good for all the tourists nearby. They are extremely diligent and polite and I would recommend their services to anyone.
