I really found the breakfast to be good and although I didn't eat any of the pastries or cake, it all sure looked real tasty. If in the area, I would recommend this place to grab breakfast. The best way is, of course, in the summer where the outside terrace (on a quite busy street) allows you to savor your chocolate cake and sip your latte under the sun. Provided you get your chocolate cake: more often than not, there is a variety of - admittedly yummy - other cakes available in the refrigerated display window, but no chocolate cake anymore... even though, I guess, 50% of the customers want their chocolate fix. (Which means that even though there might be some left when you enter the shop, it might be sold out by the time you get the chance to place your order.) Another criticism: the staff isn't very friendly. Prices are OK though and completely justified by the quality of the products. Counter service only! Don't wait at your table for a waiter.

The place is really popular with the locals, since it has a small outside seating area and is open on Sundays. Yet one thing that irks me every time I come is sub-par service: the staff serves random strangers out of turn, keeps mixing up orders, or chit-chats idly while customers stand there waiting. In short, bring a lot of patience with you and you might enjoy a nice cake.

Added charm comes in the form of a pianist tinkling away on the baby grand from 14:30 onwards during the weekends All cakes are baked on site in the large kitchen behind the counter. So you know it's not some defrosted offering provided by a larger manufacturer somewhere in cakeland! On our last visit we had Classic Cheesecake, Plum Pudding Cake and Blueberry Meringue Cake. I washed mine down with a Bella Lula Citronade with Mint and it was very citrusy and minty indeed just as the name suggests! I am a real sucker for Meringue and although I loved mine I have to say out of the three the Plum Pudding Cake was the best... if one had to choose of course! I took a whole selection to a dinner party last week and the hosts were extremely impressed. The chocolate raspberry tart is delicious, there is a layer of raspberry at the bottom, the pastry is light, the chocolate is glossy. Yum, lovely. I find the prices really cheap too! About 3 Euro per pastry. The cafe itself could almost be in Spain. Its location and look means that the young trendy inhabitants of Prenzlauer Berg give it a miss. Last time I went there were about 10 older ladies, one with her wig on back wards. Don't let that put you off though. This place is a true find!

I've also got to hand it to them, because there are a handful of vegan muffins and cakes available, and even vegan bagel sandwiches with fake meats and tasty spreads. As mentioned before, the prices are a bit higher, but for a snack on-the-go, they aren't bad. All in all, I would recommend this place.
