I don't know about you but if I am going to devour so many calories I expect to taste more than just cream which has not much taste to it anyway. Hidden just a minute away from Adenauerplatz U-Bahn station.Frau Behrens Torten gives the classic British teashop and French Cáfe a good run for it's money. Whether you decided to sit inside for the classic teashop atmosphere complete with chandliers or outside for that more Parisienne cafe experience you would be hard pushed to be disappointed. Added charm comes in the form of a pianist tinkling away on the baby grand from 14:30 onwards during the weekends All cakes are baked on site in the large kitchen behind the counter. So you know it's not some defrosted offering provided by a larger manufacturer somewhere in cakeland! On our last visit we had Classic Cheesecake, Plum Pudding Cake and Blueberry Meringue Cake. I washed mine down with a Bella Lula Citronade with Mint and it was very citrusy and minty indeed just as the name suggests! I am a real sucker for Meringue and although I loved mine I have to say out of the three the Plum Pudding Cake was the best... if one had to choose of course! I'm not a regular sweettooth. I'm a sweettooth with standards and by that I mean a simple cake won't impress me. Not. At. All. But the cakes at Frau Behrens did and here is why: They are well composed and have a certain finesse that I like. You can decide if you have some traditional cakes, fancy cream cakes or cheese cakes (such as a new york styled one). All of them are good because they aren't simple, they aren't boring. They are made with love and areabsolutely beautiful. The cream cakes are very fluffy and have the perfect balance between fruit flavour and cream. Also they aren't overly sugared. If your are a fan of tea you will be happy about their tea card. Have a look through all their creations and find the one that goes best with your cake. This is a great spot for a fancy breakfast. My group sprung for one of the larger breakfast selections with smoked salmon, so it was a bit pricey, but well worth it. It came with a nice mix of fruit, veggies, jams and cheeses, as well as some unconventional breakfast items like olives and sundried tomatoes in oil. For three people, it was plenty. However, we were crowded around the table with little space for all the dishes and cups. The table size is more suited for couples ordering coffee and a slice of cake. read more
