It was fun but more than half of the park is outside and it was a quite hot. I recommend visiting in the Spring or Fall when the weather is nice. Because we came on a weekday, the crowds were very manageable. Sadly, in my opinion, too many of the outdoor exhibits were closed or under renovation. My 20 month old enjoyed looking at the cars and tractors and rode in the stroller almost the whole time. I would say this museum is good for ages 3 and up (probably why under 3 has free admission!) We started inside and then explored the outdoor grounds, which were very spacious and clean. We also ate at the cafe, which was ok but in my opinion had low food quality as the corn dogs were undercooked and was a bit expensive for its quality of food. There are many add ons to your experience that we didn't do this time because we didn't think they would be great for our toddler (earthquake simulator, movie, 3D show, observation deck). We enjoyed the park overall but we were expecting more of the exhibits indoors.

This was right across from a hop-on hop-off stop, but nobody mentioned it and I almost missed it. They have a pretty diverse array of items on display ranging from old artifacts of the civil war, old police memorabilia and clothing a furniture from the last century. Overall, a very interesting and well documented collection and deserving of more attention. The staff person was extremely welcoming and warm and made me feel right at home. If you have just a few minutes to spare or a bit more, take the opportunity to check out this little museum. It is the in the middle of the Market place and it looks for all the world like an old train station. You need to enter on the second street side.

Sadly a storm took out the electricity to the toy house and he isn't permitted to fix it because the electric is connected to the house and the town said he has to upgrade all the electric in the house, which he and his wife don't have the means for right now. When he had electricity a lot of the toys would move and contraptions on the property had lights and water on some of them. The toys stretch back to the 1940s. Definitely a trip down memory lane. The gentleman who owns it is very nice and came out to give us a tour and pointed out the many puns related to the displays. The little general store his grandparents ran back in the early half of the 1900s is still standing and full of interesting memorabilia and artifacts. It's donations only, no cost, but the man and his wife can use the help. If you're not a fan of weird junk art and old toys, you probably wouldn't like it. We spent about 45 minutes there.

Upstairs designed more for kids 8 and above. Supervision is mandatory. Lots of themed rooms for kids to learn through play. There's a garden room with big water tables. An auto shop for the car enthusiasts. A farm where you can "milk"a cow (fake cow &water). A grocery store where the kids can shop and be the cashier. A veterinarian pet shop. Fire department. Well baby check office. There are cool tubes with air that suck up handkerchiefs and tunnel above your head and shoot out from the ceiling. Musical rooms. Hair styling room. A theater room complete with a stage and curtain! There's a Lego wall. And rubber band wall to make art. A small real plane to climb in and imagine flying over fields. Really too much to list. But wow! Great entertainment for kids (and parents) of all ages. Covid19 protocol: Bathrooms were clean. Hands sanitizer was placed all over both upstairs and downstairs. Employees wore masks. Patrons were strongly recommended to wear masks, although most didn't. Staff picked up several times while we were there.. although i didn't notice any surface cleaning. Now my cooty radar was a little high, but i get that way in any type of kids play area. I made sure my kids sanitized hands after each room and we washed hands before leaving. Lots of touchable surfaces. Pre pandemic, i wouldn't think much about it, but current pandemic, I just am a little more leery. So go with that in mind. And don't come if you or anyone is sick. This isn't a part of…read moreMissouri that I have ever visited, but it's been on my list for a long time and I'm glad that I finally was able to detour and make it happen. he museum does an excellent job laying out the story of the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812, the most powerful series of quakes ever recorded in the United States. These weren't just tremors. These were landscape-altering events that rang church bells on the East Coast, reversed the flow of the Mississippi River and reshaped entire communities. Having visited the Quake Museum in New Zealand not to long ago, I appreciated how different the experience is when you're dealing with events that happened two centuries earlier, before seismology existed and before anyone understood what was happening beneath their feet. Back in those days, they truly had no idea. The museum isn't only about the earthquake. There is a surprisingly rich collection of regional history covering prohibition, local World War I and II, and the everyday life of the people who built and rebuilt this part of Missouri. It's absolutely worth the effort. If you're on I-55 between Saint Louis and Memphis, it's directly on the way. And for travelers like me heading west to east, you might even consider taking the ferry across the Mississippi since the next bridge to the north is 50 miles to Cairo or 40 miles south to Caruthersville. Or, and here's a novel thought, you might consider taking the ferry across at Dorena. The New Madrid Historical Museum is a memorable stop with real depth and I'm so very glad that I finally was able to check it off my list. I do want to add this. The museum is immediately next to the Mississippi River. If it ever floods and breaches the levees, all these treasures might be impacted. Go check this out now. It is a robust collection of items and stories from the docents about the war, items during that period and relationships of the people in the area. While spending time here we all learned so much about Paducah's role in the war and saw many interesting artifacts. Weather or not you have an interest in Civil War history, this museum is worth a visit. We all learned so much history that we were not familier with and it was honestly facinating. The museum was not to big or crowded and really added meaning to what you have heard of in school or just general conversations.

You can easily be in and out within 2 hours max. The Super Museum, however, was a LOT more than I expected! This collection of Superman memorabilia is insane, and has so many pieces that are decades old, from many of the films, and some random, quirky stuff. The tickets were only about 8 bucks and you can spend as long as you'd like in there. They've got a pretty awesome gift shop, too! This is a really neat attraction to stop at if you're driving through Southern Illinois!

The front of this establishment is a gift shop packed with Superman (and other superhero) giftware. If you want to see the actual collection you pay a little extra and head into an entire different adjacent room. This space if filled with little trinkets all the way up to full collector pieces, costumes, props, and items spanning decades of Superman across every format. They even have pieces from Lois and Clark, the 1990s TV series, which I absolutely watched as a kid. If you are anywhere close to Metropolis, just go. Budget an hour, pay the few dollars, and go see the "museum". You don't have to be a Superman superfan to appreciate the sheer scale of what one collector put together. It's worth the detour. Up, up, and away.
