Someone else did my hair this last time. I requested the same thing I always do. My hair is two inches shorter than I asked for, my bangs are horribly uneven and entirely too short, and I HATE the way it looks. I didn't want to leave a review because I really don't want to get anyone in trouble or something, but this is poor workmanship and I'm horribly unhappy with it. Two hours for a haircut just for it to look absolutely awful is absurd. This, mixed with the consistent tardiness of the owner, ensures I won't be returning to studio gabriella.

My stylist, Laura, was totally receptive to my needs and feedback while still being totally confident in her own skills and vision - a win-win! One of my pet peeves with stylists is when they a) Don't listen when I tell them about what my own hair is like and b) Talk way too much or too little - Laura was neither of these. I had been wanting to go here but had held off because I thought it might be a bit snooty or too trendy or something, but it's great. Everyone is very friendly and make you feel right at home. I met several of the staff and I would be willing to book with any of them. Kimber did a great job on my cut and color and I booked a future appointment with her. If I like my follow up appt I'll likely upgrade my rating to 5 stars. Oh, and while I was there I saw a wide range of styles, from a granny set to teal feathering to my inverted bob, so from what I saw they can do anything you like.

I waited for 30 minutes before being greeted by my stylist, and then another 15 minutes before being taken to the wash bowl. After the wash, I was told to wait again--this time for another 30 minutes--before finally being brought over for my color treatment. Once the color was applied, I was moved to a different area to let it sit, but it ended up sitting in my hair for over an hour while my stylist, Jerica Lafayette, worked on another client. This was concerning, as permanent hair dye typically shouldn't be left in for more than 30-45 minutes. After her other client was finished, I waited an additional 10 minutes before being brought back to the wash bowl. From there, I was placed in a chair for my blowout. During the blow-drying process, the stylist began at my roots instead of the ends and tugged roughly through my hair, which was tangled and dry at the tips. The blowout felt rushed, and I ultimately left with frizzy, curly ends that didn't reflect the quality I expected. This was really disappointing, especially since I was so excited to support a Black-owned salon. I still left a tip out of courtesy, but spending nearly 5 hours there for such an underwhelming experience was incredibly disheartening.

I showed the lovely lady the style i wanted and we started. So after the first two rows i decided to check the size and it was bigger than the size we agreed on. I spoke to someone else regarding the size and i was informed it was a extra 100 dollars. I said i had no problem paying extra for the size I wanted as long as all the braids were the same size. Towards the end i asked about the 3 rows in the very front of my head to be made the same size as the rest of them. Touba the OWNER of the salon stood over me as her employees braided my hair, YELLED in my face, told me if i wanted all my braids the same size i would have to pay more than the $400, dollars even though i showed the both the same picture. After she yelled in my face she walked away and continued yelling for 15 minutes. As a black girl i have never been more uncomfortable getting a service provided to me. 0\10 RECOMMEND. Touba's attitude, tone, and demeanor were disgusting to a first time PAYING client. Besides Touba's unprofessional and unwillingness to listen the customer the rest of the ladies in the shop were very helpful and my hair turned out amazing! (after the braider fixed despite touba's temper tantrum). there was also more than 5 kids running around, crying, coughing, and touching shirt along with roaches the size of small rats.
