History

Established in 2008.

Why Sound opened for the first time in 2008 shortly after Tim moved to Logan from New York. The initial plan was to open a recording studio but when Tim saw the space, he thought it would also make a great concert venue. Why Sound Studio and Venue has hosted several big names since its opening such as We Are Scientists and Neon Trees as well as provided a professional recording experience for many local and traveling artists.

Meet the Business Owner: TIm M.

Tim M. has worked in the music industry for over 25 years. He started is musical training studying classical guitar with Michael Newman. In 1986 he attended Berklee College of Music where he studied commercial arranging and composition. After completing his Bachelor's Degree at Berklee, he moved to New York to work in the record industry and landed a job as the Director of Marketing and Publicity for New World Records. In 1996 he completed a masters degree in composition at Manhattan School of Music. In 2000 after completing training at The Manhattan Recording Workshop, Tim accepted a job at Astoria SoundWorks as an assistant engineer and was soon promoted to staff engineer. During his time at Soundworks, he had the opportunity to record hundreds of bands and musical groups, from local acts to international recording artists such as George Colligan featuring Tom Guarna (Blood, Sweet & Tears) and Rodney Holmes (Santana). Tim opened Why Sound in 2008 after relocating to Logan, Utah.
