    I have read almost all the other reviews about Putnam Ridge. All I can say is that you should throw…read moreaway the best reviews and the worst and use common sense. and read between the lines. No facility is perfect in every respect but you have to understand what goes on there. I've seen the aides working and always using the utmost of care and patience with everyone, even those that don't deserve the kindness they are receiving. I've seen families make demands which can be outrageous. Now, my take on this: The staff is very attentive to all needs and run a clean, attentive operation. I've heard residents yell to nobody in particular to 'Get me out of here!', 'I want to go home', 'Who the hell are you?'. Patients with mental deficiencies are handled in the best way possible with the maximum of patience. I could never have the same level of patience as these aides possess. The food is properly prepared according to the dietary needs of each person. The aides maintain a clean room and bed for everyone and patiently answer questions as the family asks. I noticed that at all levels, time was spent with me to assure my questions were answered completely. I found the highest level of professionalism and courteous response from all departments. Nobody ran from me upon seeing me approach from down the hall knowing I probably had questions to ask. Breda showed outstanding patience with me to make sure I understood the answers and requirements from Medicaid which can be a nightmare at times, same with Elise. Veronica always put me on the right track to getting my questions answered and issues resolved making the contacts for me. Vivienne in rehab made sure my friend received the proper rehab, Lopita and Daria, the head nurses for the ward, made sure my friend got his meds and attention when needed. Even the nurses and aides in the most difficult ward, Apple, maintained a high level of expertise in handling some difficult residents. There were others but it's needless to go on. Yes, there may be problems that occur, as at any home, but it must be remembered that there are about 160 residents here that all need some level of attention. The home does not go into a panic when a resident yells that his drinking water isn't cold enough. The place is well run and much better than the other homes I've visited. I must rate this home as 5 Stars, representing the highest level of care. R.

    In April 2026 I visited my 93 year old mother who was sent to Putnam Ridge to recover after a bad…read morefall. She was in the acute care part of the facility (Birch Unit) for nearly two and a half months. I visited nearly every day for 2 months from 2 to 6 hours a day. There were a few very good staff there including the head of nursing and a couple of her nurses (not the one who didn't give meds in a timely manner - instead of morning meds they came during lunch one day and after PT another day), a couple of aides for whom I am extremely grateful (not the ones who scrolled on their phones all the time ignoring the needs of the residents), physical therapists who tried to figure out how my mom could return to doing the things she was no longer able to do, the concierge, the social worker. The reason I give this facility a very low evaluation score is because the owner wanted every bed to be filled yet there were severe staffing issues, patients were put into Birch Unit that should not have been there and made living there (and visiting there) a true nightmare for residents and loved ones visiting, aides were so rough with my mom that they left bruises on her arms, aides would not help my mom clean up in a timely manner (one day it took 40 min for the aide to help my mom get in and out of the bathroom). The light went out in the bathroom of my Mom's room and her roommate asked to get it fixed. I came in a few hours later and nothing had been done. It was not safe without a light. I found someone who called it in and eventually (4 hours later) a light was attached to the mirror so there could be light. When I wanted to talk to the staff that mans the Birch unit desk, they don't stop chatting, turn to me and smile (I know i ask a lot!!) and ask me what i need. I was holding the yellow form from my mom's cardiologist visit that I had been told to return to them and tried to get their attention. They were just chatting. The incompetent staff wore me down. It really bothered me that residents are coughing and sneezing at lunch. They should be kept in their room. I wear a mask at lunch (I don't eat, i just help her). But she doesn't wear a mask! Residents who are in wheelchairs and can't get to the bathroom on their own need to press the call button to get an aide to help them. However, if the aide does not come in a timely manner, the resident has no option but to urinate in the diapers they have them in. And then label them incontinent. This has serious consequences with regard to not being able to get into assisted living facilities. I and others have pushed the call button and no one answers - no one for hours until you go to the desk and demand they do something. I knew who was the head of nursing and I would go to her directly. She was wonderful and got the job done and truly cared for the residents there. The kitchen staff did not take care to include what was on the meal slip even if the items were highlighted (for instance, one resident didn't want vinegar based Italian dressing and yet it was brought to her nevertheless!). Over the course of the 2 months I would be there at lunch the food did improve somewhat because everyone was complaining about how dry it was (overcooked) and tasteless. Some people couldn't eat it at all and their family would bring food in for them. The concierge would advocate for the residents and I was very grateful for her. I had a hard time myself listening to residents yelling many hours in a day; the aides would ignore them because most of the time they were "crying wolf" but this should not be happening in a facility whose goal is to help residents recover. When I looked at my Mom's medicare supplement statement for her first month at Putnam Ridge I was shocked at how many different doctors were claiming they visited my mom. I never once saw the doctor on site visit my mom. One day I tried to talk to him during my visit but he evaded me. The medicare document said there were up to 3 doctor visits a week. My mother wants me to add that the staff did not encourage or support any dental hygiene. Resident advocacy is essential for proper and reasonable care at this facility. Don't assume your loved one is being cared for properly. Make sure they are getting their appropriate medications in a timely manner. One resident had to reschedule her surgery a week later because a nurse gave her medication that was not allowed for the days ahead of her surgery. I thought the activities team did a good job engaging the residents. The highlight of my visits was watching birds in a bird nest outside the Great Room - building the nest, laying the eggs, caring for the babies.
