Nestled by the Wheaton train station (where they have a French market every Saturday), this small studio is impressive. I've been going to tribalance for some time, but found this studio that's closer to me and more my vibe. I used to practice Bikram (before the scandal) in Cali and this place has that cool Cali/city vibe. It's immaculately clean and the showers have such good water pressure. The classes are what you expect them to be, HOT, intense, and oh so rewarding. My joints and back always feel phenomenal after class. And the staff are so warm and friendly. Shout out to Becky and Agata for their continued support in my yoga journey. Pro tip: On Saturdays (while the French market is open), give yourself a half an hour extra from the time you usually leave your home as parking can be challenging, and you don't want to be late. Though I've always found parking, it did take more time.

It was calm, smelled wonderful and Kristy had a great and loving energy. We talked about what brought me in and what i wanted to get out of my session. I have no idea how long i was on the table (with an Amethyst Heating Pad for healing and comfort) - but when i got off the table, my back felt quite a bit better. Kristy shared with me some of the things she was able to intuit through Reiki about where i was blocked and a special message about my feet. I've been to quite a few different Reiki practitioners and each have their own style. Kristy's style appeared to jive with my energy and it felt wonderful. I will certainly go back. Sound bowl therapy uses the calming vibrations of sound bowls to improve anxiety & tension, boost mood, work on our chakras, increase spiritual well-being and restore harmony to both the mind and body. Natalia was our sound bowl therapist and was calm, spiritual and enlightening. I can't wait to go back and do this again. Natalia also is a Reiki master. I've done Reiki before and loved that experience as well. It was interesting to hear Natalia's thoughts of what she felt was going on with each of us at the end of the session. Two of us had the energy of our loved ones with us during the session, and I was lucky enough that Natalia felt the energy of my dad. I was able to tune out everything around me and delve into the experience, but my friends said they heard people talking within the other parts of the studio, such as massages and other therapies in other rooms. One gal said she felt like getting up and going outside to tell the people to not make so much noise. Again, I was very into what Natalia was doing and focused that I heard nothing and wasn't bothered by any outside noise. Maybe it would be simply scheduling things at different times for complete silence, I don't know. It wasn't an issue for me. If you haven't taken part in a sound bowl meditation, it's a very relaxing and spiritual experience. I highly recommend Natalia for sound bowl meditation. I can't wait to go back for another sound bowl or Reiki experience.

Yoga is a great way to stretch and strengthen, as well as, a way to center your mind and clear your head. It has been difficult for me to find a yoga studio that is close to home and has hours for people who work. When I saw Shoucha pop-up in a Yelp search I was elated. This is a small place. The classes I have attended have about 6 students. It looks like 9 people could fit in the space. At first I thought that was bad but then I realized that it made the class feel more personal. The instructor can pretty much see you at a glance and can offer suggestions and adjustments to your poses. Bring your own mat. If you don't have one, they have ones you can rent. I think it costs $1. You can use a multitude of props at no cost. I don't think they do walk in classes but you can sign up for one easily on the website. There is a new student special; $20 for unlimited classes for two weeks. This place has regular yoga and some yoga body bootcamp thing that I want to try. They also offer guided meditation that I will check out later this week.

The soft "hum" of the cars on Main Street and St. Charles will eventually just become part of the studio's presence, rather than an annoyance. Music is played throughout class, (60-75 minutes), and will vary each time. What you take away from the sounds will be different for each person. There's a class for everyone, ranging from Vinyasa Flows, Meditation, to Boot Camp classes. It's recommended to view their schedule on the website or send an e-mail to the studio if you're not familiar. Age is not considered a factor for the practice, you just need to be willing. Each instructor will work with you on variations to each pose, and props are provided. Forgot your mat? There's extra to rent for $1. You will discover what you're truly capable of at Shoucha.
