Whitney is kind and communicative and gives an excellent massage, on a comfortable table, customized to one's specific needs. Good music too! I have been trying to increase mobility through my back and shoulders. Whitney's massages have a loosening, relaxing effect for weeks afterward, and I've made noticeable cumulative improvement over three or four sessions. read more

I have been trying to think of a way to describe what Whitney does without sounding too mystical, but honestly, I am not certain what she is not magic! I'm a hairdresser so my right shoulder is basically messed up all the time. The first time I visited her I wasn't sure she had done much. After all, I had never had a pain free massage that actually did anything. It took me until the next day before I realized she had completely broken up the knot that had me in constant pain for weeks. On top of having magic hands Whitney is also an incredibly professional and awesome person. I can not recommend her services enough! read more

I mentioned to a good friend of mine that I really needed a massage and she said to contact Whitney because she had searched around for the best masseur and found the woman you can find too - here! I have seen many people, but I agree with my friend. You can't get a better massage in the Bay Area. Whitney begins by asking you questions about your body and what you want, but when she gets going she finds areas that you don't even know need her touch. She pushes and pulls, kneads and strokes, and with incredible strength and gentleness, she knows what I need. She feels me. I began to see Whitney after I had a serious head injury and a broken foot. After just one visit it (I) felt like coming home. Such compassion, such grace, and such benevolence ... these are qualities that are hard to find ... and I couldn't be happier to find this with Whitney. read more

Whitney made me like my body again. No wait. That's not quite right. She INTRODUCED me to body. Like, for the first time. I hadn't actually noticed that it was there before -- my head had always been too interesting and distracting to get past itself. She said, "Hey Sarah, I know you just think you're here for back pain, but I'd also like you to meet someone. It's your whole body. Look, when I poke it here, it relaxes. Doesn't that feel good?" I was stunned. She then proceeded to do all sorts of weird trippy things like poke me in one place to make something happen in another place... stuff that makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE to my brain, but my body was ALL about it. So I went back again. And again. And again. And now my body and I are now on regular speaking terms, thanks to Whitney. Thank you, Whitney. read more

I am a circus performer, which means a few things: I know my body better than most, and I am often doing things to it that are stressful or could incur injury. Athlete life at its most absurd. So when seeking a bodyworker shortly after New Years Eve, I had a pretty good idea about what was wrong, what I had done to cause it, and was searching not only for the very helpful poking & prodding of a healer's hands, but for someone who could lend their insight and recommend physical therapy exercises to help me rehab myself. Whitney was excellent. I left feeling better than I came in, and (perhaps even more importantly) much better equipped to help care for my hurt neck/shoulder and prevent future injuries. Affordable, considerate, attentive, and knows what she's talking about - Whitney is all of the things I seek in this type of medical professional. Highly recommended. Bonus points: Easy street parking, and a lovely live/work space that's very comfortable to visit. read more

Your massage was wonderful. You are physically insightful, and listened to what my body was telling you. You have rare talent. And you are very adept at using a variety of techniques based on what presents itself rather than a rote recitation of standard patterns. I was particularly pleased with the care with which you deconstructed the elements of my hip connective tissues which have been troublesome for over a year. You left no connection untreated. I now have less pain and more range of motion than I've had in months. read more

I've heard great things about Whitney's massage services for years, but I haven't been a patient until very recently. In the past few months I have been battling plantars fasciitis (heel pain), a bruised tailbone, and a shoulder injury from a car accident. I decided to finally seek Whitney's help with these compounding injuries. Whitney's massages feel more like "actively debugging my muscles" than a spa treatment. She's helped me to understand the interconnection between my various injuries, and her massage has helped open up my hips, loosen my neck, and generally get my whole body into better alignment. She does a lot of pressure/strength testing of various muscles, combined with applying significant pressure to loosen spots of tension, to get everything working more smoothly together. If you're looking for someone who can really target your deep-seated injuries, knots, and weak spots, Whitney is your gal. I feel stronger already! read more

Whitney is an outstandingly-talented massage therapist. I enjoy a general, full-body, relaxing rubdown... but Whitney offers something much better. She can assess, with preternatural accuracy, where there is tension or misalignment that is causing pain and discomfort, and can use a combination of massage techniques and neuro-muscular reprogramming to sort things out so the relief is far more than a temporary "ahhhh." I had a mild foot sprain that, over time, compounded itself into throwing off my hips and upper back so badly that I could barely walk. Where another massage therapist might have massaged the places that were directly sore, Whitney worked with my whole body, finding hidden imbalances that were contributing to the source of the problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. She helped get me functional again in a very brief amount of time, when I was originally in so much pain I had actually broken down and taken a Vicodin at work. Whits knows her stuff, and is constantly deepening her knowledge of bodywork so she can address her clients' needs. If you just need relaxation and self-care, she can definitely provide that with great warmth and skill, but for injury, pain, or other acute issues, she is unparallelled. read more

When I was looking to get massage done for my back and neck pain I was really worried about finding someone who was trans and queer aware and friendly. I'm so glad that my friend pointed me towards Whit! From the beginning I have felt comfortable and safe on the table with her, no awkward or invasive questions, and she even had stuff to say and ideas about how my body was affected by binding and surgery when I asked about it. Also, she's just awesome at what she does and she plays good music too. read more

I've been seeing Whitney since 2011 and no one else comes close. As a fat trans person with lots of ongoing chronic pain & health issues, it feels like a huge relief to be able to get care without judgement and with actual competence. A massage from Whitney actually feels like therapy! This sounds like a super obvious thing to say - after all, she's a massage therapist - but I've never had a massage from anyone else that left me feeling like a huge weight was lifted every time. She has worked out spots that caused me pain for years, and is always willing to find time to fit me in with my packed schedule. Her generous sliding scale makes her services very accessible. I'm often only able to pay towards the lower end but pay at the top whenever I can because she's awesome. read more

Whitney is very professional and fabulous at what she does. My mom has been ill and in much need of a healing touch. Whitney came to the house, talked with her to find out her medical issues and gave one on the best massages ever! She also massage my mom's partner and he loved it too. Thank you very much - once again I see how much a bit of thoughtful kindness can change your day. read more

Whitney is down right amazing at what she does. she has the skills and sensitivity to ask you the right questions and read your body so that she can apply her knowledge to best treat you. after waiting entirely too long to get body work done she worked wonders on me and even now, after nearly a week, I still feel better than I have in a long time. plus she is fabulous as a person too seriously - you won't be sorry. in fact you will be the opposite of sorry read more

I recently received my first massage from Whitney. I say "first" because I fully intend to pay her another visit in the future. She has a friendly and comforting demeanor which helped me push aside a significant amount of my discomfort about being touched by someone I'm not intimately involved with. Even more impressive is that she managed to chase away a great deal of the stiffness and pain in my neck, back, and hips. In fact, the very moment I stood up from the table, I noticed that the sharp pain that had been living in my right hip for days was gone. Since I have chronic health problems, I didn't expect her to perform a miracle and send me away completely pain-free, but neither did I expect to walk away feeling as good as I did and to remain feeling *noticeably* better for several days afterward. Whitney does work out of her home, but in a separate building at the outside edge of her backyard, so it feels much more like you're at a quaint spa than someone's house. In fact, I felt a bit like Goldilocks because the massage table, room temperature, and soft background music were all Just Right accompaniments to Whitney's magic hands. Whether you visit Whitney yourself or purchase a massage for a friend, it's definitely time and money well spent. Edited to say that Whitney has moved her practice since I posted my review. I'll be sure to add an update after my next visit. read more

House calls!!!! Most of my day is spent hunched over a keyboard. My back a gnarled mess of unhappy. Last week I threw out my back but since I was on a business trip I had to navigate hours on a plane and standing around on my feet. Whitney made it all better and was incredibly flexible about her time. Best of all I feel sprightly again (and my back is happier). read more

Whitney does a fabulous job; great music, great calming atmosphere, powerful massage with finesse! I love that she takes notes & keeps track of my progress/needs, and she's excruciatingly well trained. I learn more about anatomy, body mechanics & pressure points every time; which is saying something, since I teach dance at the college level and know bodies pretty dang well! She's a wonderful soul, and a great worker! read more

Whitney makes my body feel great! I've played roller derby for 8 years and to say my body is beat up is an understatement, but after a massage from Whitney I feel fantatstic! She makes a real effort to understand my body and it's needs and pinpoint the areas that really need work. She works out many of my general knots and kinks as well as addressing my extensive injuries. I was having numbness in my hand from a problem with my shoulder and not only did she help to correct it, but she showed me some really easy stretches for preventative maintenance on it that really work! I highly recommend Whitney! I'm going to go book an appointment right now! read more

Whitney is a knowledgeable healer who teaches you as she goes along. She figures if she teaches you to heal yourself, you can be her partner in your healing. She looked at how I stand, had me raise one leg and drop it, then the other, and that told her what she needed to know about where my muscles were weak or where they were over-compensating (she also listened carefully to my history and what I wanted her to work on). She was able to bend me into some different stretches and used various techniques (some deep tissue, some kind of surprising because they didn't seem to feel that amazing but then a slight adjustment and I had a whole new range of motion) to loosen up tight muscles and get things moving more fluidly. She gave me specific exercises to do which if I'd done them I'm sure would have helped, but I didn't, so of course the pain came back and I need to see her again. But yeah, listen to her, do the homework she gives you, and you'll need fewer massages, though you'll probably still want them because they feel good! She's intuitive, knows her stuff, and is excited to share her knowledge and help you learn to heal yourself. See her and feel better! read more

One of the most conscientious and thoughtful massage therapists I've ever had touch me. I have many musculoskeletal issues--from bad knees to numbness and tingling in my arms to scoliosis. Ms. Moses has gone out of her way to not only address these problems, but to come up with long-term solutions--even referring me to other bodyworkers and learning from them as they worked on me so that her skillset increased. I go to her whenever I can and recommend her to everyone I know. read more

Whitney works magic with her fingertips. In addition to simply being an incredibly kind and caring human being, Whitney is incredibly skilled at making her clients feel at ease and utterly relaxed, and has a very gentle and intuitive touch. Getting a massage from her is like resting on a warm fluffy cloud of bliss and relaxation. Whether you're saddled with an injury or simply stressed the hell out and need a break, Whitney will make it all melt away and help you feel whole again. read more

Whitney is a godsend. I've been seeing her for a little over two years. I have some serious muscle knots that are over 20 years old, and she's the first person ever to be able to work through them. Past that, she has a really extensive anatomical knowledge, more than some doctors I have met. In addition, she's awesome, quite friendly, and has a way to connect to people that not everyone can do. I'd recommend her to anyone. read more

On a recent trip out to the Bay Area I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Whitney. She has to be the most through, firm but gentle technique that I've ever encountered in my 40 years. I have chronic neck and back pain due to a congenital defect in my right hip. Whitney took the time to ask me about my physical issues and then proceeded to craft an individually tailored session to suit *my* body. Don't think that you're going to get "Standard Massage No. 4" from this woman. Oh no. What you're going to get in the highest example of professional body-work that I've encountered. By the time our session was over, my hip did not hurt (and my limp was gone). My neck no longer ground and crunched. And my TMJ didn't "pop". Also: it was WONDERFULLY relaxing (something I have a hard time doing myself). Can NOT recommend her enough. read more

Whitney gives great massages - professional, intuitive, thorough and responsive to feedback.

Whitney is the best ever!!!! She is so knowledgable and I would def go back again. I recommend Whitney!!

Whitney is wonderful! She has been an acquaintance of mine for years and I've always found her to be exceedingly warm, friendly, fun, and talented. I just went to her for bodywork for the first time last week. I've never had bodywork done, and I've only had professional massages twice before, but I must say she is AMAZING. Very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and her hands work wonders. I recently had a back injury, and I went to her for help with that. She recently started doing Neuromuscular Reprogramming, which is something I was previously unaware of. It is like magic. After an hour long session with her, my back felt much more flexible than it had, and a week later my pain is nearly gone! It's hard to say how much of that is due to what she did and how much is just normal healing, but her working out the tension that had built up in my back due to the injury has definitely helped move things along. Not to mention it felt incredibly good. Something else I liked a lot was how she told me exactly what she was doing, and educated me about how my body works in the process. It was really interesting to me because I love learning that kind of thing. Plus, it was abundantly clear that she is very knowledgeable about what she's doing: anatomy, musculature, the way the human body works, etc. I will definitely be going back to Whitney again! read more

Whitney is a blessing. She is a true healer. I have been to every type of massage therapist, chiropractors, and even the hospital for my extensive injuries. This is the first time that someone nailed the exact spots on my body to give me permanent relief for my chronic pain of over 10 years. I have 25 year old injuries that have caused my body to go 'out of whack' so badly that the pain is debilitating. Whitney is helping me help myself and teaching me to heal my body so that I can get out of bed and walk up stairs again. :) I am even thinking that exercise is in my future again. I think that I may actually feel like a 42 year old again instead of an 80 year old. :) Thank you Whitney. read more

Whitney is a healer. My back went out when I was in NYC. After a 6 hour plane ride home I was in such pain I couldn't move or even sit without intense pain. I went to see Whitney at the urging of my sister. Whitney is gentle and kind and extremely knowledgeable about the whole body.. How it works, what is connected to what, and what to do to stop the pain and start the healing process. Whitney treats the whole person not just a part. She talked to me, asked me questions and then went to work. I left feeling better. I kept going back because I could feel my body healing. What could have been months of pain started to really lessen after two weeks. I now recommend Whitney to all of my friends and to anyone who will listen. She is the real deal. read more

Whitney is magical. I have scoliosis and sciatica, and I was in a minor car accident a couple years ago that hurt my neck and shoulder. After my car accident, I was looking for a massage therapist and I was nervous to have someone new work on my neck. I am so fortunate to have found Whitney! Whitney listened attentively and used excellent techniques to soothe my neck muscles and support my healing. Since then, I strive to see Whitney monthly. Every time Whitney blesses me with a massage, my body feels amazing. Whitney puts a lot of effort into asking about my body and listening to my concerns. Whitney is very gifted and cares very much about her client's wellness. I trust Whitney's body work skills and awareness; she consistently puts my comfort and safety first. I highly recommend Whitney! Check out her awesome music group too, Midtown Social ! read more

Whitney is the one of the few individuals I trust to work on my body. She took a great deal of time at our initial meeting to get to know my body in theory before she began her work. She is very well-versed in different techniques and is able to tailor her work to each individual client's needs at the drop of a hat. Whitney provides a warm, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in which to work her healing magic. She makes sure her clients are comfortable in the environment, offering heating pads and soothing music as an aid to the relaxation process. I left my first session with Whitney feeling replenished and relaxed and standing up straight for the first time in my life. I famously exhibit TERRIBLE posture, have had problems with my back, shoulders and knees, and just simply get rather beat up as a result of daily life. Whitney makes it all better. :-) read more

Whitney is terrific and has all the qualities that I like in a massage therapist...thorough body knowledge, a quiet and calm demeanor, not afraid of silence (although we do tend to chat when I'm there), and the ability to adapt immediately to what the client needs. I have always gone to her home office, which is a very soothing room and always plenty warm enough--nothing kills a massage like a cold room! She takes care of every detail, from non-invasive music choices (or no music, whichever you prefer) to privacy and the offer of a glass of water afterwards. In February, I was in a car accident that totaled my car when I was 14 weeks pregnant. Whitney did a great job with my neck and shoulder pain (fortunately that was the only injury) and could see how I was holding tension in my body and how to alleviate it. I am sure that I healed that much faster thanks to her sure hands. I continued to see her a few times for prenatal massage and always had a great experience. She knows exactly how to set up the table for all the stages of pregnancy and makes sure that you are as comfortable as possible. She is very knowledgeable in different concepts involving pregnancy and childbirth, and knows what kinds of questions to ask to make sure she has a full picture. And what a nice feeling to be pampered like that while feeling big and awkward! Overall...Whitney is awesome! Highly recommended indeed! read more

Whitney took amazing care of me. I went to her in a great deal of pain from a neck injury. She identified exactly where to work and helped me figure out a plan moving forward. I cannot wait to get back to her and have more work done. She's an excellent massage therapist that listens to me and my body. read more

Whitney is a a talented and compassionate bodyworker who I cannot recommend with greater enthusiasm!! I have had many sessions over the years with her that have helped me through back pain, ankle pain, and with pregnancy. She works thoughtfully and with precision on all of your ailing muscles/tissue, and is really wonderful about communicating with you what she's working on and through. She's trained in several modalities and always willing to talk through any issues you're having with your body. I highly recommend Whitney, especially if you're interested in both the rehabilitative and restorative aspects of massage. read more

I LOVE hiking and, after injuring/re-injuring my hip/leg/back, I was in pretty excruciating pain simply walking on concrete for more than 30 minutes. Whitney, in a matter of two months, has gotten me back to pain-free hour and a half walks and, more importantly, to hiking. I've had persistent chronic pain due to past injury, and she has been helping me heal from these issues as well. Really grateful to have found her on Yelp, so now I'm writing her a review so you find her on Yelp too! :) read more

Whitney is everything you want in a massage therapist; professional yet affable, she applies considerable talent in tailoring her work to exactly what your body needs. Each session begins with a quick discussion of how you think your body is doing, and then she proceeds to discover all the little bits you didn't even know were bothering you. I feel two inches taller on my way out of Whitney's office. read more

Whitney worked on me when I was experiencing the wear and tear of working in the restaurant industry in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy. She was amazing and diligent. She took the time to make me feel comfortable and talk about her experiences with prenatal massage. Her voice was soothing as she worked on my problem areas and her advice was on point for how to take care of my body moving forward. I definitely recommend! read more

What can I say (write)? The girl is a Witch! I mean, who else can walk into a sardine can with bad feng shui, ignore the sardines and take on the forces of gravity, electro-magnetism and noisy bondage, and make a difference in one screwed-up girl's polarities? Who can deaden pain and reassemble muscles and molecules until the spiky black-clad corpses are unbound and free to trample SOMA again? Who else, I ask you! Well, I know Whitney can! read more

I can't recommend Whitney enough. She has a gift; from the first time I spent time with her I could sense her healing energy and wisdom. She really spends time asking questions and getting to know your history and your body's history in order to best help you, and she respects the individuality of every person's body and their needs. I wish I could adequately express how talented she is, but you'll have to see for yourself. We as a world need more healing professionals like her. On a personal level, I saw her in a time when I was struggling heavily with an eating disorder that had ravaged my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Despite my general difficulties with trust (and touch requires so much trust!) I found myself completely at ease with her and confident in her knowledge and being a safe person. I think it's difficult to find professionals who deal with the body who are intuitive enough to respond in an effective way for people who suffer from ailments as sensitive as eating disorders, and Whitney beyond meets this need. I'm honored and excited to share my experience and hope you will give yourself the gift of contacting this wonderful human being to help you in your healing process. (I so recommend her that I actually went and posted a bunch of reviews for other places so that my review here wouldn't be filtered out/would actually show up. Seriously. Go see Whitney.) read more

Full disclosure- I knew Whitney as a friend before she ever fixed my back. She is my boyfriend's regular massage therapist, and he absolutely feels she is a miracle worker, but massage is usually not in my budget, so I never expected to be able to use her much-lauded skills. However, I had a terrible back spasm *getting out of my car in front of her house* one night. Just like the engine light going on outside your mechanic! I was literally doubled over with pain. Whitney immediately sprang into action, though it was 2am on the night of her housewarming party and she must have been exhausted. She set up her table with fresh sheets, got me lying down and feeling safe and cared for in like 20 seconds. Her client room is peaceful and lovely, and she absolutely understands how to take care of you when you have frightening back pain. She set to work, and got me fixed up and able to stand up and walk within an hour. Miracle worker, AND the nicest human you'll ever meet. read more

In case you've never written a yelp review before: when you choose all five starts Yelp offers you the prompt "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" That's just the beginning of how awesome I think Whitney and her work is. As an FTM transsexual, it can be hard to find professionals who are culturally competent, aware of my bodies particular quirks, and able to hold space for the fact that receiving touch isn't a simple thing. Whitney fulfills all three (Woohoo! As good as it gets!). At our first session she took the time to find out where my comfort levels were and made sure I was completely at ease. She even asked if I was comfortable removing my binder. I was, but I definitely appreciated the implication that she could work with it if I wasn't. Binding can really mess with your body and Whitney knows it. She was even able to explain how a binder restricts certain muscles and makes others work harder (i'm a geek and love knowing "how things work" so that was really cool.) Most recently I visited her for a quick session after my top surgery last month. She worked out the kinks from the surgical binder and then showed me how I can massage my scars (i had double incision so there are 2 and they are looooong) to help the tissues become more flexible and recover to a more "pre-op" texture. She also reminded me that it is possible to breath into your ribcage when you're not binding and not just your belly. It was wild. I hadn't even realized that I'd forgotten how to breath into my ribs. but low and behold, it took serious conscious effort. Moral of the story: if you're trans and looking for a body worker, Whitney Moses is your body worker (you just didn't know it yet.) read more

Whitney is really excellent. Despite living in San Francisco I make the journey out to Whitney because the few times I didn't I really regretted it. She is definitely worth the trip for me. I've been a patient of Whitney's for the last few years. She is incredible! I don't know about you, but I tend to wait a little bit too long between massages. I always finally get around to having one when my body is at a crisis point and needs some serious work. Whitney always starts out the massage by asking if there is anywhere that particularly hurts and then she really sorts out those areas. By the end of a massage I always feel a little bit woozy from relief. I'm so grateful for Whitney!! read more
