Impressive park that preserves "the Great Circle" which received a UNESCO World Heritage site…read moredesignation in 2023. I came here for a quick stop while driving to Columbus, OH in mid-June 2025 for a conference. Lot of pluses in visiting this park. First, it's an important ceremonial site built between 100BC and 400AD by the Hopewell Indians with a link to astronomical patterns. It was later used as a county fairground (which allowed it to be preserved). Second, parking is free and plentiful. Third, you can walk freely around the outdoor complex and read some of the signs and displays (the scale of the Great Circle is massive). Be sure to stay off the mounds. The only downside was that the museum was closed on a Monday. I did not see a restroom facility available when the museum was closed.

Today was the grand opening/reopening of the Northern Lights branch, part of a huge program of…read morerenovation and building involving close to half of the CML locations. This one is now the biggest branch in the system, and is huge. I remember the old location in the mall, and this one is stunning by comparison. Bright, open, modern, well-stocked. The children's area is huge and includes several play areas. There are plenty of computers, and lots of stacks. There's a drive-through for returns and reserves. There's even a fish tank. We are lucky to have such a great library system, and to have these new branches all over.

This is one of my favorite libraries to go to. Very clean and quiet. Lots of comfy chairs to sit…read morein. They also have a great kids area. The quiet room has a fish tank and lots of space. It's also easy to get to and find decent parking. I would definitely recommend bringing kids here in the summer. Or coming here to get some studying done.

After the event, it was moved to its current location amongst the extended gardens at Chadwick Arboretum. It has a lakeside location in Arboretum North. The house has an interesting combination of features to show how sustainable design can be used inside and outside of a home to better work with the environment. There are a variety of plaques on the interior that give a rundown of these elements, and if you're fortunate to be there when it is open for tours, the volunteers are great at answering questions and providing a general overview. There are also recordings available on their website that provide similar information. A very neat place to check out!

Fire Station 72 is located adjacent to the Reed Road Park, and there is an excellent view of the…read moreback of the station from the playground. As one can imagine, this combo is hard for fire truck-loving kids to resist, especially if the doors are open and the trucks visible. The firefighters here are so friendly and will come out and greet the kids and chat about topics ranging from how different tools they use work to the trucks themselves to the history of the retired old fire truck that's housed inside of the station at the front of the building. There's also a cute little dalmatian dog statue seated in front of the station too. Very kind and friendly folks!

It is one of the smaller locations, but has a small parking lot and is bright and sunny. Not long ago, it was fully renovated which is great. The library staff and volunteers are friendly. I stopped in to pick prizes for the Summer Reading Challenge and everyone was helpful and kind. With this location being where it is, sometimes you may find unhoused people or some people with mental health issues. I'm not throwing any shade, just making people aware.

Wifi was fast and it was not too crowded so rooms were available to reserve. You can reserve a room via the tablets placed throughout the library and you need a library card to do this. The library is three-floors with plenty of seating space on bar stools, chairs, and tables (also plenty of plug outlets). The morning was quiet but more people started to come towards later in the afternoon after school got out. Staff was really friendly and helpful, and I appreciated them having free masks. One thing to note is that I noticed a handful of homeless folks hanging around in front of the library, inside, and using the bathroom. Not dangerous or anything, but just something to keep in mind.

I use this branch frequently as a back up location to grab free COVID tests and booking a study room. The library system offers up to two hour blocks that you can reserve a study room. I take some work virtual meetings here when I need a space. Staff is great here and you can use the public computers and print here too. Library cards are needed for services but they are free. Ask them about their culture passes. for admission to these central Ohio organizations like the zoo, museums, botanical gardens, the Columbus Clippers, The symphony, and much more. Limited availability but are a great service offering. It's slim pickings when it comes to truly historic sites in Columbus, but Camp Chase Cemetery, a…read morelittle known piece of Civil War history located on the West Side of Columbus, is a storied place- especially among Civil War enthusiasts. The Civil War touched Columbus in subtle and unusual ways. In 1861, the federal government authorized the establishment of Camp Chase as a training ground for Ohio volunteers and militia units. Columbus was a centralized location with a good transportation system and lots of space, so Ohio's capital was an obvious choice for a military camp. Camp Chase was built on what is now the West side of Columbus, near the the Westgate neighborhood, bordered by present-day Sullivant Avenue, Broad Street and Hague Avenue. It eventually served as a prison for local Confederate sympathisers and higher ranking prisoners of war and remained in operation throughout the entire Civil War. Between 1861 and 1863, the number of prisoners bulged to a whopping 8,000, but upon completion of a POW camp on Johnson's Island in Lake Erie, most of the Confederate officers were moved, leaving only the "enlisted" men at Camp Chase. It is well known that the living conditions were terrible. Prisoners suffered a variety of diseases related to starvation and in the winter of 1863, hundreds of prisoners fell victim to a smallpox epidemic. The camp closed in 1865 with the close of the Civil War. When all was said and done, more than 2,200 Confederate prisoners died at Camp Chase, causing the prison to establish its own cemetery, where today approximately 2,260 soldiers are buried. The only part of Camp Chase that still exists is two acres of land containing the cemetery. In 1902, a monument to the Confederate dead was erected at the cemetery, which you can see today. The Hilltop Historical Society sponsors an annual Memorial Service in June to honor the fallen Confederate soldiers. I have chosen to list the Ohio Historical Society's web page as the link here because they maintains a variety of documents, burial records, headstone inventories and photographs related to Camp Chase. For cemetery and history buffs alike, Camp Chase is a haunting place to visit. It's a completely moving experience to pass behind the stone wall and see 2600 white headstones stretched across 2-acres. Easy to forget you are in the middle of the city. Ghost hunters have come here searching for the Lady in Gray, an alleged female spirit (dressed in gray or gray in appearance) searching Camp Chase her lost husband. I have not bumped into any ghosts here, but I sure did enjoy discovering one of the few tangible pieces of Civil war history in Columbus. It's a moving place.

I've been past many times without even being aware of it; I knew it was down here somewhere, but wasn't sure exactly where. It is just tucked into the neighborhood along Sullivant. Inside are more than 2000 graves, mostly Confederate prisoners. Research the history a bit (and read Shawnie K's review for a start.) This is all that is left of Camp Chase, a large camp and one of several that were in Columbus. I've been to Johnson Island up on Lake Erie, and had a similar feeling here. These men fought on the losing side (and the wrong side, not always the same thing) but they were, as the memorial says, Americans. It is a quiet, sobering place to visit on a cold late-winter morning.
