This theatre has been around a very long time! I moved into the area around 40 years ago. I've seen all kinds of performances here and am always surprised with how comfortable it actually is. Impressive how she memorizes all the lines. Not only that she can also sing & dance. The Parking: Challenging on Ventura Blvd, only Street metered parking. The SoloFest gives actors a chance to show their chops in an intimate 85 seat venue. Our attendance at the two short acts play BARRYMORE was a delight in classical script excerpts expounded by the character John " Jackie " Barrymore in the fictional month before his death in 1942. Playwright William Luce, who's Broadway premier of the play starred Christopher Plummer, wrote many plays in the one-act genre, always about famous people such as Emily Dickinson, Zelda Fitzgerald, and Lillian Hellman. We especially enjoyed actor Vito D'Aambrosio's many voices from the past as he tells dirty little secrets from the Barrymore Family history. First time at this theater. It was very nice and cozy. The temperature of the theater was just right. Acoustic was very good .The director Mr. Rasmussen was very nice, also the bartender. Came to see a friend's one-woman show at this cute little theater. Seats are more comfortable than they look and they are situated in such a way as obstructed views aren't common. The entrance/reception area is really compact so post-show gatherings are very tight. They appear to have a very interesting mix of shows - definitely worth checking out what is coming up. This is an excellent 99 seat theater. Have been here multiple times and haven't seen a show we didn't enjoy. Prices are fair and every seat in the house is a good one, and the owner is a great guy and open to talking to his patrons. They have different types of plays almost nightly. We recently saw the musical parody of the TV show "Lost" and it was done really, really well. If you like 99-seat type theaters, this is definitely one to go to, and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars for before or after theater food and beverages within a block or two each way. read more

Small intimate theater. Every seat is good. We came to Santasia and had a great time. There is street parking available but you may have to walk at minimum a mile. There were beverages available in the lobby. The chair allowed a little movement but not much. There was also a little area for photos. Cute theater. Saw "Under The Jello Mold". Enjoyable. Knew there would be parking issues so i Ubered there. Theatre is small, and not much of a waiting area, but i loved how easy it was to check in and get in. Suggestion for food: About 1-2 blocks east is the Rumi cafe, south of the liquor store. We came here for the 8pm show of Voice Lessons, with French Stewart and Laurie Metcalf. Traffic was horrible heading over here on this Friday night, and then looking for a parking spot in the permit-only residential neighborhood or at the Ventura Blvd meters proved frustrating. Thankfully, a $5 valet for another theater a block east of here solved that problem. We had gotten tickets ahead of time online (50% off, thanks to Plays411) so we rushed in the door at a little after 8, and were identified on the list. When we asked if the play had started, they said that between traffic and parking issues, they knew people were running late, so they hadn't started yet. How nice!! We had time to hit the bathroom and get seated, and feel a little better about ourselves when we saw people come in even after us. The small theater deceptively held a lot of audience, and we even spotted Buck Henry in the crowd. Seats were comfy, air circulation was good, and the hour-long play was very funny. I would definitely come back to this theater - count me in as a fan! read more

I love small theaters. Super cute and tucked in between a row of businesses on Ventura Blvd. I attended the kick off of Solofest "celebrating the solo journey" annual festival at the Whitefire. I love how cozy the theater feels. For an older venue it has been kept up well, while still successfully maintaining that old school theater feel. The front lobby is super small and there is one teeny bathroom also in the front lobby. Lets be real..take care of business before you come! I especially appreciated that we were able to take our wine into the theater so we had beverages during the show. Just made it feel more like a night out. There isn't a bad seat in the theater and the owners are super accommodating. There is plenty of street metered parking but unless you get one super early it can be a bit of a hassle. There are a ton of restaurant/bars around the theater that also take up street parking. However, The Boneyard Bistro offers valet for the theater at a reasonable $4.50 per car. Highly recommend making a night out of it and checking out the Whitefire. The festival is going on until June 21st and they have some pretty amazing solo shows lined up. read more

I love theaters like this! Tiny, intimate, cozy, and welcoming. And not a bad seat in the house. I sat in the front row of this small (I'd say around 100 seat) theater, when I came here last month to see The Caterer, and the stage was less than 5 feet away. I loved the simple set design, which worked well with the small, but versatile stage. The valet parking was only $5 for this show, and was pretty prompt, which was nice, because we were in a big darn hurry to get to the theater on time. And we did! The theater only had one bathroom, which I guess could have been an issue, had I actually needed to use one, but...I didn't. So it was all good. I'd like to see more of these cozy theaters around, and was happy to find one in Sherman Oaks, although it was pretty much the extent of my visit to the area. read more

I LOVE This Place ! I've been here many times and consider myself a regular now. I strongly recommend getting tickets to the annual Christmas show called "Santasia", Bring Family and Friends and you'll have a blast, this show sells out every show during it's run, as it is a small and cozy theater, but you'll make it a tradition once you start. I love small community theaters, there's just nothing else like them. Great staff too, tickets are always reasonable and I've seen about 5 different shows there, everytime better than the last. read more

Lovely small theater. Every seat in the house is good. Well maintained. Lobby is clean. Many small theaters are old and dusty. Not the case with this one. It really is a nice venue. In fact, I would return without hesitation. If you are lucky you can find a place to park on the Ventura. If not, they have a valet not too far away. Only one caveat, there is one unisex restroom which means there may be a line. Since this is not atypical for a small theater it is considered a minor infraction. read more

Went to see a nice 4 actor play which my friend helped produce on a Thurs night. The theater is really easy to find with plenty of metered parking in the street (which is free after 8). The Whitefire Theater is a decent size building for its venue, and seats around 100 people in the audience so it gives you that intimate, cozy feel, and adds a nice vibe to the production. It's about the size of the upstairs Parlour room at the Magic Castle (not the big Palace room the other one) if that reference helps. The stage itself is pretty small and about the size of a bedroom, so I imagine the plays don't do a lot of set changes. The play I saw was a 2 act play (called Slow Dance in Midtown), with one of the stars being Patrick Swayze's brother, who bears a striking resemblance as well. I'm pretty sure the play was originally produced in NY though because the characters the setting was in a Manhattan bar and one had a Brooklyn or NJ accent. I was in the 2nd row and it was kind of surreal, because the stage was so close and the actors were right in front of me. Because it's so small too, the actors didn't seem to feel the need to project like other plays I'd gone to, so they spoke in regular tones which was fine. You could also here everything in the audience like chuckles, laughs, and whispering noises, which made me wonder if they'd allow you to bring a baby here because it could really upset everyone and stop the show if it started crying. Decent set design with excellent attention to detail, I'd definitely come back if there was another production worth seeing here. read more

Recently, I went to see Silent Witnesses at the Whitefire Theatre. The author and performer, Stephanie Satie, did a most outstanding job. She is an extremely talented actress. I commend her for her wonderful portrayal of the four children Holocaust survivors. It was extremely well done and very moving. The only suggestion I would have would be to develop Chana's and Amelie's characters more by adding perhaps about 15 min. to the show. The other characters, Danusha and Paula, were much more developed that one could empathize strongly with them. I sincerely highly recommend this profoundly touching performance for all to see. It would make an extraordinary movie. A show not to be missed!!! read more

***** The shows here are always really good. I recently went to series called "Shorts" (Spring Shorts, Hollywood, Shorts, Summer Shorts, etc..) 10 scenes from 10 different Film and TV writers. There was such a variety and so entertaining! Some were funny, heart-warming, silly and a few dramatic scenes that were very emotional. And only 10 minutes...great for my attention span! : ) There was an intermission too. It was so fun and went by so quickly, I wanted to see more. What a great time! read more

After living in New York for 3 and a half years I thought the biggest sacrifice I was making in coming to LA would be in theatre. How wrong was I!!! I first came to the Whitefire to see the production of Fall Shorts- 10, 10 minute, hilarious short plays. I was so blown away by the talent and the production value of the evening that I found out how to audition. I love being a part of the company and couldn't recommend the Whitefire more highly- you'll know what I mean once you meet Bryan and Jake. I love this theatre! It is such a charming little space. I recently saw a night of short one act plays there and it was great. It is a perfect date night out. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area to have dinner then catch a show there. AND they are one of the few theatres in the city that doesn't serve "2 buck chuck" at intermission. I joined the Whitefire Theatre Company this past fall for the opportunity to grow and learn as an actor, but I also wanted to find a space and format where I could showcase some theatre in front of industry guests and start to build relationships that will help me find success in my career. The Whitefire Theatre Company has surpassed all of my expectations! I feel like I am part of a group where I am consistently learning, growing and creating my craft - and working continually on becoming a better actor. The rehearsal process has been fantastic training in exploring and finding the better choices and moments to take in a scene. Each show I have been a part of thus far has been incredibly unique and has offered me different lessons and opportunities to showcase and discover myself through various characters. By working within a theatre company format, we (as company members) collaborate together - both with our fellow actors, with our director, producer, and oftentimes, directly with the writers themselves - to make the best show we can for our audiences. As an actor, I feel rewarded not only artistically, to have a voice in each production and a fabulous theatre in which to perform, but also I feel incredibly lucky that I am able to simultaneously work on the professional side of the "business of acting." The Whitefire Theatre Company is unique in that it truly does deliver on its promise to expose its members to industry casting directors and execs with whom you can start to form actual working relationships.
