The old saying "No Master is greater than his student" is the foundation of Master Brandon Hastings, humble owner of White Tiger Martial Arts. In 2004 I was driving home and stopped in White Tiger to get some information. I was interested in my 3 year old son being a student of the Martial Arts. I didn't want him at just any school; I wanted a school where I felt confident that my son would understand and respect his art, and not use it in an abusive way. After a lengthy conversation with Master Brandon, I knew this was the school for my son. I felt confident that he would learn HOW to defend himself, but more importantly know WHEN to defend himself. Fast forward to the present (2015), we are still students at White Tiger Martial Arts. My oldest daughter is a second degree black belt, that 3 year old boy is now a 13 year old second degree black belt, my 10 year old son (who became a student at 2 1/2) is a first degree black belt and my 8 year old daughter will be taking her black belt test in the summer of 2016. We have been coming to White Tiger for almost a year and the the changes I've seen in my child are incredible! The instructors are AMAZING!!! Their lessons are fun and disciplined, but never harsh or abusive. When a student is struggling, a sensei will quickly come to their aid and give them the one-on-one instruction they need. The owner, Brandon, is extremely professional and he holds his staff to a high standard. The staff greets every parent during every class and they are always concerned with how you are doing. Their involvement with the students does not end when they leave the dojo. Students are given character and discipline homework assignments and they require permission from their school teacher before being allowed to promote to the next level. As a teacher, I am extremely impressed with not only their instructional strategies, but also their passion for what they do. I also have two students from my own classroom that have joined this year and the difference I see in them is night and day! What students receive at White Tiger is nothing short of life changing! I owe so much of where I am in my life to this place, and even more so Brandon Hastings. I can't say enough good things about this place. I learned how to be a professional. A leader. A student. A survivor. Humility. Grace (at times). To become a true athlete. Teamwork. Patience. Determination. I can keep going but you get the idea. Brandon Hastings has been a huge part of my life since I have been 12 years old (now 26). I am his first black belt. He trained me to win 3 world titles. I am now a top tier trainer at the most elite gym in the U.S., Equinox. I would never have the tools to do this without everything I have learned from "the studio". Not to mention I met my husband here, as we were training partners, and now we have a beautiful daughter who loves to train there any chance she gets. I absolutely love it there. The training is detailed and thorough and potentially saved my life. I'm 4'11 and weigh zilch, so when someone tried to snatch me up as I was walking to work after a long day at school the odds were very much in the offenders favour. Or so he thought. I escaped with a strong knee to the groin which I can definitely thank White Tiger Martial Arts for, as we had just practiced during my prior attendance. Did I mention the awesome people you meet there? They have an amazing family centered environment, and are very passionate about morals and obligations to strive towards in life. I started martial arts training because I had a fear of not being able to defend myself in critical situations. I enrolled in the kickboxing class and started out just wanting to know the basics. I had no intention of becoming a black belt. As time went on, I fell more and more in love with martial arts. The people I've met and the things I have learned have shaped me in such a positive way. Everyone in the dojo is so kind and motivating that I couldn't help but come back for more! My dad even does kickboxing with me. Now, about a year and a half later, I still love coming to class. I am proud to say that I am now an advanced belt in kickboxing (master blue belt) and I will definitely be going for my black belt. I am so glad that I walked into White Tiger Martial Arts. I have 2 kids currently enrolled in the family karate class at WTMA. My daughter has been there 2 years and my son about 4 months. They both love the class and their sensi's. Everyone there is very friendly and professional. Sensi Brandon and Sensi Danny always greets everyone in with a hand shake or a hug and are always sincerely interested in whats going on in our lives. This business is very community oriented and organize several fundraisers each year (such as school supplies and backpacks that are delivered to all schools in the area, canned food drives). I have been going to this dojo for the past 13 years! I have always loved what goes on here. My husband grew up coming to White Tiger and earned his black belt. We had my daughter coming here for 3 years and she absolutely LOVED it! I think this is a great place to take your children to learn discapline and to stay focused they teach children so many things and keep them active and striving for greatness! I've been a member of the white tiger Martial Arts family for going on 4 years. I've done kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu and have several friends who have done family karate both adults and children.
