White Oak is a preserve for 32 species of threatened and endangered animals Yulee, Fl. It is 16,000 acres of natural land that animal experts come to and work at for preserving the species with breeding programs and educational tours and events for the public. To say it is exclusive maybe an understatement since presidents and other official national and international come here! There are cottages ( we'd call nice houses) on the grounds for such visits. As a special event you can go on a horse back picnic tour of the ground for like $250 a person! For a regular 2 hour safari tour is $100 a person and $50 for kids 3-10 years... For Earth Day 2019 we volunteered with St Mary's River Keepers to help clean up at numerous site in Nassau County and hence were invited to White Oak for lunch! Very nice- bbq pork, hot dogs, cole slaw, orzo medley salad, several types cookies with ice tea and lemonade! We also got T-shirt's from the River Keepers! Nice day, beautiful area and event!

Do you take volunteers?I'm a retired RN. Have volunteered at animal shelters in LA and Sarasota. Moved here a year ago and would love to volunteer in some way Thank you

Greetings, Thank you for your interest in volunteering at White Oak but we do not have a volunteer program at this time. If you are interested, the Jacksonville Zoo has a strong volunteer program that you might want to check out. We hope this helps!… Read more

I was able to see species I wouldn't see in any zoo, and maybe wouldn't see on safari in Africa due to their limited numbers.

We found our keeper!…read more I had heard about Katz 4 Keeps many times over the last few years; and through his job my husband had helped Mary (the owner) several times but we had never actually visited the facility. While we had been thinking about bringing home a new family member for some time, when we were finally ready this was one of the first places we looked. The facility is impressive. There are different rooms (divided by age) for kittens, young cats and adults. They have an isolation area for new cats and for when any of their current 'residents' get sick. For as many 'boarders' as they have it is surprisingly clean. All I can say is Mary is the epitome of a cat lady, but not the crazy kind. She loves what she's doing and she loves every single feline friend. If you're considering adopting a cat (of any age) please definitely put these ladies on your list. The program they've established is quite impressive and I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

All rescues should follow Katz 4 Keeps philosophy. A rescue cat has the Ritz Carlton service from…read moreKatz 4 Keeps-(living quarters and premium medical care). Every cat/kitten is taken to a Veterinarian; Katz 4 Keeps doesn't mess around with the cat's health. The facility is hospital quality clean with separate quarantine rooms for new and ill cats. The volunteers and fosters are top notch quality. Katz 4 Keeps is on the A list! http://pictures-of-cats.org/how-many-animal-shelters-have-quarantine-rooms.html#comment-557669 (an example of a quarantine room)

The animals seem well taken care of and happy. The have mostly tigers but also a lion and some smaller cats. They even have two foxes and two bears! This is different than a zoo, because they have these animals as a way to save them. Some of them were from private owners and some were form closed zoos. The workers and volunteers were all happy as well.

You've never been to a place like this before... and at first, I wasn't even sure what to expect…read more The sign outside is nicely done, but when you walk in, the tables and chairs look like they're 50 years old... clean and organized, but the area clearly needs an upgrade. But that's actually the point... every dollar this nonprofit earns goes directly to animal care, facilities, and expansion. Nothing is wasted on appearances. And that mindset defines everything about this place. We signed up for a tour and arrived early to walk around a bit on our own. By chance, we ran into Curt Logiudice, the founder and owner of the sanctuary... a remarkable man who has devoted his life to this mission. Hearing him explain how it started, how it's grown, and his vision for the future was inspiring. Watching him interact with the bear they have was priceless... playful, natural, and full of trust. You couldn't tell who was enjoying it more... Curt or the bear. What they're doing here is truly admirable. Their mission is the rescue of exotic animals from serious and often tragic situations. Once an animal arrives at Catty Shack Ranch, it has a home for life. They do not breed, trade, sell, or buy animals. The sanctuary is home to tigers, a bear, lions, pumas, leopards, lynx, foxes, and coatimundis... all cared for with dignity and respect. The guided tour is absolutely worth it. The staff is knowledgeable, the experience is educational, and you get surprisingly close to the animals while still feeling completely safe. The atmosphere is calm, respectful, and not overcrowded. I noticed families with kids whose eyes were wide with amazement... it's that kind of place. This is privately funded, and even veterinarians volunteer their time to care for animals in need of medical treatment. If you see Curt on the grounds... and you probably will... stop and talk to him. His passion, humility, and genuine love for these animals is unmistakable. Please visit. Please support this place. What they're doing here truly matters. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
