Old Bank Hotel - Oxford University and High Street at sunset from balcony

What an amazing couple day holiday stay at the old bank hotel centrally located on high Street in…read moreOxford. This is my second visit to the hotel, and I splurge this time on a room called the room with a view. An amazing patio of more than 500 ft.² greet to you as you walk into the room outside floor ceiling windows and doors. The room is super tech savvy with almost all functions controlled from a panel on the wall next to the desk. This includes automated lowering and raising of blinds for the floor ceiling windows, as well as closing and opening full length draperies for the same. The bathroom is super spacious with double sink vanities in a large walk-in shower. This would be a wonderful room for anyone to celebrate the holidays in. It's equipped with a super comfy king size bed, and down comforter. There's also two couches in the room, facing the large picture windows and a small round table with two chairs for indoor dining. But the patio is unreal and includes a larger outdoor dining table for four and two large chase lounges. What makes this room so spectacular is the views of Saint Mary's church and the whole of Oxford University. Aspires of Oxford are magical and at night it's absolutely spectacular. Everything about this hotel is five star from the service the moment you check in until you check out. Room service is fast and efficient as is maid service in the mornings. Included with the room is a fully stocked mini bar and wine refrigerator. that's updated daily. You're also given a large platter of super fresh fruit, that is also refreshed daily. There's a hot pot for making tea and a really nice coffee pod machine that makes espresso. The wall opposite the bed sports a large flat panel TV. Location of the old bank hotel is prime real estate in the center of high Street in the middle of shops, pubs and restaurants. Cross the street and you are immediately on the grounds of Oxford University a wonderful place for exploring. Can't say enough about this hotel, the physical aspects, the service, and the location. I will always choose this place when I'm in Oxford.

This is easily the best hotel in Oxford and one of the best hotels I've stayed in Britain. I had a…read moresmaller room, but it was anything but claustrophobic. The design is excellent, a beautiful desk and chairs and tables--modern and tasteful. They keep everything impeccably clean. The art collection is stunning. The bath spacious, even in my room for one. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and charming. Coffee and tea are abundant. The lounging areas--a snook in the rear of the hotel--is a great place to prepare for the day. The food is excellent. The hotel sits on Oxford's High Street, right across from the towering All Souls College. Old Bank is a perfect hotel. I can't wait to stay there again.

Besides, the food was atrocious and not worth £30 EACH! Never going there again.

If you ever stay in this hotel and want a really special treat I would recommend booking a RIver view suite. Each suite is named after luxury champagne and the river view suites are called Comtes de Champagne, Laurent Perrier and Ruinart . These are duplex rooms with King size beds with Egyptian cotton. Each having stunning open plan bathrooms and lounge area upstairs with French doors leading onto a heated balcony and outdoor bath with breathtaking views of the River Thames and Regatta lawns. The bathroom has another flat screen television and each bathroom has a open rolltop bath enough to share for two people and a monsoon walk in shower which there is ampul of complimentary toiletries. There is a double sink and a large mirror as well as a very large L shaped leather sofa. The amazing view outside can also be enjoyed in another roll top bath outside which is allows you privacy from other rooms or buildings but also you can enjoy the beauty of the stars in the sky at night! I go here every year and try to stay more than one night! It's a luxury treat but a very romantic weekend!

I genuinely…read morefelt like I was in the setting of Pride and Prejudice the entire time...half expecting Mr. Darcy to emerge from the fog in any second. I was incredibly lucky to visit with my company for a 25th anniversary work trip/holiday party, so we spent 3 days in the conference rooms by day and had drinks near the fireplace by night. It was early December so it was incredibly cold, but you still can't beat that view. I imagine I would be frolicking in the gardens in the summertime lol. The service was absolutely impeccable from the folks at the bar to those who served us at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff made our experience and team bonding time truly unforgettable. The grounds are not only beautiful, but also holds fascinating history! I wish I took more pictures of their stories in the lobby, but I may have to settle with whatever I find on their website. Some events we had were clay pigeon shooting nearby and a tour of their charming town Henley-on-Thames, and my goodness I would come back to the UK just to explore the town more. I loved the local pubs we visited and learning about the famous British celebrities who have homes there. I can't wait to be back!

The reception staff were friendly, but not always knowledgeable. The Hotel ought to make smart tv's standard in all rooms. It was disappointing to be stuck with only the commercial channels (without even a menu option). Our bathroom lacked a toilet brush. The food was adequate and could certainly be upgraded to enhance the Hotel. The spa was disappointing, except for the facials we two had. Those were very well-done. Avoid the massage therapists here; they are insecure, inexperienced young people. For whatever reason, the staff appeared to be 100% women. Especially disappointing was the reception staff at the spa. I would say it was worse than disappointing; it was almost infuriating. Again, the staff was very young women who undoubtedly had little experience in their roles. As insecure young people will do, they will compensate for their lack of knowledge and experience by acting 'in control' and official. They seemed to think the role of reception at the spa was to enforce rules and keep clients in line. This is a major error. Their role is first and last, like everyone at an hotel, to serve a hospitality function: to be welcoming and conveying the wish to facilitate the client's optimal experience. Some re-training is definitely in order. As for the massage staff, I'd say re-hiring is in order; pay more and get more experienced and effective masseurs or masseuses. Consider the good package I got and the high standards of housekeeping and groundskeeping as well as the divine venue, I would definitely stay there again, but would not make use of the restaurant or spa in future.
