Extremely disappointing experience- ordered a holiday cactus for my mother and paid a little over $100 to ensure it arrived intact and on time. The plant that did arrive was tiny and had maybe 4 bulbs total- not at all worth the $60 price. I was shocked and disappointed and ended up having to go hunt for a replacement from a local garden center. Do not waste your money, this seems to be a common issue for folks. read more

I ordered the Jasmine plant in a filigree plant stand for $135 in early November. It said shipments would start on Dec 5, 2025 (live plant and plant stand would be mailed separately). I never received an email that my deliveries were scheduled to arrive. On Friday 12/5 or Saturday 12/6 the fragile live plant was apparently delivered to my front door on a covered porch not visible from my garage entry, while I was away for several hours. I always enter thru the garage, so it was not until I opened the front door at 5 AM Sunday morning that I found the boxed plant. There were no markings on the box saying "fragile live plant" but the company said they always email delivery time and the box contains a "warming pad". 1) the company checked and agreed they could NOT find that they had EVER sent me an email, 2) there was no warming pad in the package, and the plant was already show first signs of dying from the exposure to our Maine deep freeze. The unfriendly representative finally agreed to send a new plant "this time only". Also, when I immediately put the frozen plant in it's plastic pot, into the decorative stand holding pot by the window, in hopes i could revive it .. I realized the next morning that new pot had a slow leak staining our wood floors ... outrageous for such an expensive plant stand! This has always been an expensive company .. but their products and service are sub-par. read more

If for any reason a plant arrives in a poor state, just realize that things happen. Plants are sometimes fragile or maybe mishandled. Give them a call. I ordered 7 pink Sonic Bloom Weigela from White Flower Farms. It took 5 days from the shipping notice to receive these plants. Needless to say, I was concerned about the health of the plants with that long a journey. All 7 plants were dormant but alive with green Cambium on all plants. I watered them well and planted them a few days later. Within a day of water and sunshine, all 7 had leaf buds on them and in a few more days little green leaves began to appear. I'm quite impressed with White Flower Farms. The plants were packed with great care and were still barely damp after their long journey. They were also a good size for the price. Ordered a Mother's Day plant for my mother well in advance and with guaranteed arrival before Sunday. I checked tracking today and saw that it will be arriving after Mother's Day. I called customer service and the woman I spoke with was useless - her only "solution" was for my (elderly) mother to return the plant. I could live with a glitch in their shipping system if they made any effort to resolve their mistake, but they clearly do not care. Definitely steer clear. read more

Disappointing experience. Ordered two white Echinacea Plants. They came with soil spilled throughout the box. The plants are lifeless and dried out. They will not survive. When I sought out White Flower Farm on Yelp to leave this review, I was shocked to see so many lower ratings!! I don't leave many reviews on yelp, probably just a handful all my life - but I felt like this place was deserving of credit. I've only ordered twice (by mail, haven't been there in person) and my experiences with them have been not only good but the best I've had ordering plants by mail. I ordered Black and Bloom Salvia (2) and an Indigo Cherry Drops tomato plant. The salvia were potted and put on a cement stand in the center of a circle of orange daylilies. Though the daylilies (which have been there forever) did not perform as I'd hoped this year, the salvia were great! The two plants still look healthy now even though I've ended up neglecting their pot badly by mistake. At one point the pot fell off the stand. One of the two plants was severed close to the base, but it's grown back so well that the two plants look the same age again. The tomato plant, though, is the main reason why I decided I should leave a review. The Indigo Cherry Drops tomato plant did arrive a little early, but with the grow light I use for seedlings it did fine until I could plant it outside. Just now I counted the fruits on this plant and there were 70(!) - far more than on my Sugar Rush tomato plant from elsewhere. Even though the Sugar Rush variety has had the most fruit possibly every year I've had it. There are also plenty of blossom clusters, so provided that frost doesn't come early it looks like there will be plenty of tomatoes to come from this plant as well. The fruits truly are the size they're advertised to be, so larger than I'd expected from a cherry tomato plant. They really are blue in large part, though the non - blue parts mature to a regular tomato color (my only disappointment). The fruits taste great, too! I was also impressed by the disease resistance of this plant. Here in Connecticut we've had a wet summer with temperatures varying widely day to day. The I.C.D. plant did get what I think could be some black spot early on, but despite this most of its leaves continue to look healthy and obviously fruit production was not affected. All of this despite the fact that the branches grow densely and I haven't gotten to pruning it for air circulation as I should have. I noticed that some reviewers were disappointed with the condition of their plants on arrival to their homes. Mine, however, were the healthiest looking plants I have ever ordered! This could be due in part, however, to the fact that I live relatively close to White Flower Farm (though in Connecticut, I live in the southeast which is too far away to reasonably drive there) which meant a relatively short distance and time for these plants to have been in the mail. read more

This is a breathtakingly beautiful nursery and plant store! We went in the first week of August. There were a few things sold out, but since many many nurseries get the plants they sell from White Flower Farm, one can use a visit as a place to be inspired and and create plans for their own landscaping. If I could give negative stars it would be more accurate. I purchased peony roots and five anemone type dahlia tubers last fall. Planted the peonies upon arrival and they appear to be waking up. I generally order my dahlia tubers from Swan Island Dahlias (I have ordered over 100 tubers from them over the years) and always receive quality tubers with good results. This was more of an impulse purchase from WFF, however they are in nearby Connecticut and I thought why not support a local farm, especially since they "guarantee" their products. Received my dahlia tubers and upon opening the first bag found a tiny clump of tubers - ALL WITH BROKEN NECKS! I opened a second bag and found the same thing! I immediately called WFF and the "customer service rep" stated that they have received several calls about this and that their "Horticultural Specialist" stated that this was not a problem and to go ahead and plant them and they should be fine! I explained that I have been growing dahlias for several years and that a tuber will not grow with a broken neck and no eyes! She insisted that their "Specialist" stated they only need one tuber to grow and I explained that ALL TUBERS in the clump had broken necks! She insisted that I plant them. I then told her that I wanted my money back - that clearly their plant material is inferior at best. She said they will not replace or refund unless I plant them and they do not grow! I then told her to take them back and she advised that I would have to pay to ship them! So essentially I will have paid shipping and return shipping fees for tubers that weren't viable to begin with. White Flower Farm is NOT REPUTABLE! Do not waste your money! read more

Purchased four perennials by mail, assuming an independent nursery would provide quality products that would be worth the premium price. Opening them immediately upon arrival I found they were incredibly root bound (see photo). Customer service suggested I use a razor to cut into the roots so they could be planted and hopefully survive, but no offer of refund or reduced price given the quality was sub-par. I have lots of experience w/ different mail order nurseries and have never seen quality this poor. Will not use them again. read more

I ordered a plant specifically for the color combination from white flower farm as a gift. Trusty rusty is suppose to be red and yellow. What I got was purple and green. So disappointed. I didn't expect it to look like the pictures but they could have at least gotten the colors correct. Tried to leave a review on their website but it doesn't look like you can. I wonder why. What a waste of $20 and 3 weeks of my time. Now I have to go find another plant. Will never order from white flower farms again nor will I recommend them. Sadly, this is the second time I got leggy, nearly unusable plants. I thought last year was a fluke and gave them a second chance. I want to like White Flower Farms, but 2 years in a row I got my plants late and many of them are ugly, leggy and spent looking. I can salvage the coleus -- and one of the plants they sent was actually a nice young plant. The petunias were middle aged and usable. The impatiens are aged and I probably will just throw them out as they are already in late summer condition -- leggy and sad. read more

I ordered from White Flower Farms and received a plant with all broken stems and not in the pot. The box was obviously damaged during shipping. I emailed customer service to simply ask if they thought my plant would survive under the condition in which I received it. I received a response the next day from Lauren in customer service and she was extremely polite, expressed her concern and mailed me a replacement plant free of charge that I received today. All foliage was dead, the container was dirt was dried out and I now have 3 leafless stumps that I am trying to nurse back to life. Every year on Mother's Day my daughter sends me flowers from this establishment. Every year they arrive dead or near dead. I live in Florida. The box arrives hot to the touch and the flowers are limp. They die within a day or two. I didn't want to tell my daughter because she was trying to do something nice. I am going to tell her now. I highly recommend NOT ordering fresh flowers from White Flower Farm. They aren't fresh when they arrive. I told customer service. They didn't even acknowledge my email. I've been unable to shop for window box plants in NYC because the outdoor restaurants have bought them all. I used White Flower Farms on the recommendation of a friend. In fairness, I am not an experienced gardener and NYC during COVID is depressing. I have been really, really looking forward to cheering myself up with window boxes. The website and my receipt said the plants would be shipped by late March or zone permitting. I kept waiting and checking. They weren't shipped till April 6th. For the price I paid, $60 with shipping, I bought what I thought would be enough plants to fill my window box. I got four little plants that wouldn't even fill a hanging basket. For $60!!! They didn't lie. The text with the glorious website pictures states 1 pint. I just figured they'd be bigger. I feel like an idiot for shopping at White Flower Farms. Too $$$$, they don't deliver as expected. Perhaps it's best for experienced gardeners. Update: 4 days shy of a month later the plants haven't grown much at all. I hear high-quality plants may be small at first but the roots are strong and mature so the plant really fills out and grows quickly. Located on 5 acres in beautiful Litchfield county, the grounds are immaculately groomed and showcase the best of what they have for sale. If you arrive sometime in late May you will be blown away by the colours and fragrances from all the flowers and bushes. My favourite flower is lilac and they are everywhere here, in what seems like a hundred colours and with blooms as big as your head! There is also a wonderful shop which sells everything you could possibly want, including tools, bulbs and decorations for the home. There is also an online catalogue, which I have ordered from in the past and let me tell you, they do not scrimp on quality or service here either. My order was excellently packaged, with absolutely no damage and came within days. They are a bit pricey, but if you want the best you will go nowhere other than White Flower Farm. read more

I just had a conversation with a Supervisor at your establishment. I stated in this note to you I wanted 4 individual $25.oo gift certificates so I could have 2 with names and 2 blank to have on hand. The two people I spoke with, the second being a supervisor, would not honor my request, saying the gift card had to be $50.00 value  in order to receive the 20 percent discount. This conversation got so complicated and seemed to ruffle the women's feathers that I will spent my money elsewhere. I purchased a large order last year from your company and there is no record of it. I wanted to give 2 of these as gifts at $25.00 this weekend. I have been a customer since the 1980s when I got a catalog in the mail and used a telephone to call and place orders. I have many roses I have kept, moved across state lines and different homes that I got 30 years ago. I have continued as an avid gardener to go to White Flower Farms when I am looking for a particular plant or a plant for a special space in the gardens. I thought it was not advisable to buy tomato plants that need to be shipped in a box from halfway across the country (I lived in Minneapolis and now in northern lower Michigan). I was wrong and the plants arrived 2 feet tall, green and in need of some water. All have always survived and so good are the heirlooms that I have bought tomatoes several times over the years. I kept seeds from the heirlooms but after 2 or 3 years they lost their strength which is common to these olden days plants. Then I ordered more because WFF knows how to keep the genetics pure and was good for another few years. I can't even remember all the plants over the decades. I see that some customers are very unhappy with the owner and his other businesses. I read and take that seriously. On the other hand, those who complained did not seem to be 'gardeners'. The complaints are about the interactions which I have not experienced, but I have never visited the farm myself or met these people or the owner. I don't care about having your gift certificates not meet your needs or the color of a plant does not look like a photo. To a true and experienced gardener (I'm 76 and started in the rose gardens with my grandfather when I was 2) is interested in growth and growing and if lucky, know what they are doing. I have never had a bad purchase in all those years and nearly 20 orders over 30 years. Reviews read very different from people who sound like they are, in fact, going to the garden. I taught college and the website for 'rate my professor' taught me a lesson: People with a grip or complaint are far more apt to do a 'review' than the satisfied consumers. This certainly include me. If I am looking at a product and read mostly rave reviews I know I am on to something very good. It is harder to motivate the review I am writing than the complaints I read to the right of this screen. If the owner is a hateful landlord, move out or burn the house down. If you want some good plants, this is a place to get them. read more

Someone was kind enough to send me flowers from White Flower Farm. Unfortunately, they arrived without any water or water source to keep them hydrated during transport - no floral foam or water tubes on the stems. Plus, it was cold outside. Several of the rose buds in the bouquet were brown, the leaves and stems very wilted and some of the stems of the statice were broken. The presentation was poor. It's a shame because the selection looked so pretty. I called to complain and they nicely offered to send a replacement set, which I accepted, but when I pointed out that they arrived without any water source and seemed affected by the cold, the customer service woman responded, well, I hope it will be warmer in a few days. It's the middle of winter in New England. No, it will not be "warmer" in a few days to allow roses and other tender flowers to tolerate the weather without some kind of protection. The replacement arrived today, and it, too, arrived with brown rosebuds and wilted stems/leaves. It's a shame, but I suppose, it's the thought that counts for my friend who sent the flowers.
