Update- Jack and Lisa Davenport commented on me being "handsomely compensated". I am personally…read morenot sure what is meant by that statement. The estate sought $10k (the value of the ringS) to have them remade. A little over $5k was received. Maybe they are referring to what they had to pay their lawyers to protect the business status and tire out our family when we tried to collect the full amount? It is unclear. They would need to provide that information. But thank you for the traumatic experience , money cannot "handsomely compensate" that pain away. New ringS will not bring back the generational sentiment they represented to me. This is also the first official apology and accountability I have received from the funeral home outside of the disruption at the service. At the end of the day, in my opinion, this is a business that needs to protect their business. I am another "customer" whose mom's body the business was processing as quick as they could to fit more business in. The response mentioned about being human - I feel they forget their customer's are human. I feel they forget their "inventory" was someone's mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. In my experience, that was made clear. ----------- The funeral home cremated my mom's rings by accident when cremating her. It makes me question how her remains were handled. I was then followed around and watched at the church by the owner and someone else from the funeral home for the entire service. If I had to guess it seemed they were fearful that we would be talking about the incident with others at the service. They also kept trying to force interaction with myself and 3yr old daughter (who clearly did not want to talk to two strange men). At one point, I was even cornered by the owner DURING the service discussing what had happened after we specifically said we did not want to discuss it during the service. The aftermath in dealing with them was completely unprofessional and traumatic for me. There is something off going on there.

Light and bright, yet with cozy groupings that featured comfortable couches, armchairs, and side tables. There were gorgeous curtain treatments, classical light fixtures, and plenty of seating for mourners. The bathrooms were immaculate with an elegant floral arrangement. The lounge area provided everything that family and mourners would need for a break--coffee, tea, bottled water, and a selection of soda. Even napkins and paper plates, which we had forgotten to bring, were available. There was a large table with a generous amount of chairs for gathering together. Plentiful tissue boxes were placed throughout. Every detail was thought of and provided for the care of those who were grieving. The attendants, Deanna Moran and Patricia Sanchez, went above and beyond. They warmly greeted the family when we arrived and assisted in providing the risers for the floral arrangements that we brought. We were shown where everything was located in the building (bathroom, lounge, lounge supplies). They were attentive and caring, making certain that the entire event went smoothly from start to finish. Their compassion and sympathy embraced us, helping us to find closure during this difficult time.

I found them online after another Palatine funeral director had been rude to my husband and brother-in-law when we stopped in to make an appointment. It wasn't really my place to call Smith Corcoran, but I'm so glad that I did! In fact, my brother-in-law thanked me several times for convincing him to switch to Smith Corcoran for the funeral. Karen was truly fantastic! She demonstrated just the right amount of professionalism mixed with the appropriate level of sympathy. Karen and her staff handled the meeting and funeral services gently, at the right pace, and without pressure. Their prices were competitive, and the service packages were very easy to understand. Karen handled everything for us and walked our family through a difficult time with patience and attention to every detail. When I called to cancel our meeting with the other Palatine funeral home, I learned that he had picked up my mother-in-law's body from the hospital without authorization! We hadn't even met with him yet! I called Karen, and she immediately raced over there to collect the body. She was very supportive. During the visitation and funeral services, Karen was always available and present, without being invasive. She handled everything perfectly. She even called the restaurant during the services, to let them know how many people to expect for the luncheon. I highly recommend Smith Corcoran Funeral Home.

The family is currently on the West Coast and the memorial would be in the Chicago suburbs. Melissa Nelson was patient and compassionate as I called for information regarding a death half way across the country. She provided details on what Meadows could provide and also offered alternative solutions for us which wouldn't even result in revenue for her. To me, this is a sign of a true professional looking out for the best interests of the client. She also made any expenses that might be incurred very clear as she understands that many times families aren't prepared for the expense. Ultimately, due to size constraints, we were unable to use Meadows, but I absolutely recommend Meadows Funeral Home and Melissa.

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Before his passing, we had an initial visit with Michael regarding plot selection and he was helpful with helping us pick the location that best met our needs. No pressure, just a friendly visit and discussion. After he passed, we then worked with Sherry and Arlene to purchase the plot, casket, vault, shroud, death certificates, etc. The cost was substantial, but I imagine it is likely in line with other Jewish cemeteries in the area. Included in the cost is perpetual care of the grounds so there are no additional fees down the road. The chapel for his service was very nice and all of the people working there that day were super friendly. They live streamed his service which many in my family used. They also provided the ability to download the service which I decided to do. Shalom Memorial received the death certificates a few days afterwards from the village and we picked them right away so we could begin sending them to those who needed them. I really can't think of anything that I didn't like or was disappointed in.

First I had to get through the smokers at the door to get in "excuse me, pardon me". Just like trying to get to a bar at a club except then you might have already had a few and it isn't so bad. Then when we you walk in the door, you have to go down a hall to get to the main viewing room. The hallway is narrow and once again I had to make my way through the crowd. Because there's nowhere for people to stand except in the big room! Usually the girls have a big restroom you can hang out in. Not here. The women's restroom has 2 stalls and a little vanity with a faucet that barely lets out any water. No diaper changing station, but a least there's carpet. So, I gave this place 2 stars because it was clean and Lake Zurich is a cute little town in the area by this place. There's usually a room where there's snacks or just chairs to rest and they did have one of those, but it was small.
