This place is quite popular and often has quite a big queue, never a problem though as the staff are efficient and service is spot on. I like a good italian and happened across this lovely place. The restaurant itself looks really nice - not just thrown together. The staff can be a bit of an unusual group, more from watching them than them serving me. But once my food comes quick and is nice then I am happy. And the food is great, the kind where I was using every last bit of my chicken and pasta to get the sauce off the plate. They have a great selection on the menu and, I think, are a decent price.

Main courses were ribeye steak alla Gorgonzola - the steak had quite a bit of gristle in. Lamb shank was nice but a bit too overcooked. Duck and stuffed chicken breasts also very tasty. We had no dessert but enjoyed a digestivo of Grappa (they have 4 types) and Limoncello. We had no wine with the meal, just two rounds of mixed drinks. The total was £140 which I thought was very pricey for what it was. A very pleasant restaurant with friendly, knowledgeable staff. The food was ok but not worth that much. I will come again though

However, being a recognisable brand name does not necessarily indicate that the service and food you receive will be quality. In the three HR branches I've visited, including this one, I've always ben disappointed. This particular outlet is found in the Oasis food court in Meadowhall. As you're buying from world famous Harry ramsden, theres instantly a premium on the prices you pay. If you're like me, you wont mind paying for quality. Sadly though, with HR, you're NOT paying for quality. I have no idea what you're paying for, but the fact is you could get a 75p bag of chips from a local chippy and enjoy them far more than chips from here, where you'll pay around £2 for the pleasure. Nothing tastes even halfway fresh, the chips are like eating McCain micro chips. I dont eat fish, but I'm told thats just as bad too. Its typical of the brand, seemingly. People are seduced by the name because they think its a mark of quality. It isnt. Its just effective brand promotion. If you're in Meadowhall, there are any number of better places to get your food from, all of which will provide better value for money.

If you're after a fish supper, I'm now convinced there's no better place. As promised, there was a queue half way down the street early Friday evening. Locals know what's up. If you've not given them a go, don't worry about that one bit. I was in within 10 minutes. The fridge has your standard chippy pop options, including (if I remember rightly) shandy bass. That takes me back! The choices are also the usual, so no need to explain. I opted for the regular fish and chips with some curry sauce. Haddock and chips was under a fiver! The fish was cooked beautifully, the batter hardly got soggy at all (unlike most places) and the chips were just what you crave from a chippy. Basically, this place is the business.

Given that I work near here, I got used to eat fish and chips every friday. I haven't tried many fish and chips shops till now, but my collegues told me that this is one of the best in town. And they are right! The fish is good, damned good. For less than a fiver you can have a huge haddock with countless chips. Honestly I couldn't say anything about all the other choices in the menu because I stick to it and I am not willing to try anything else! Of course you can have scraps for free and add salt and vinegar while they wrap your meal, but if you want a sauce you have to pay for that: add less than one pound for a big curry pot (or mushy peas if you prefer) and you're done! Go for a smaller pot for 45p if you prefer, but it won't be enough... Anyway, this shop is not in a posh area of Leeds, but if you end up in Wortley or Armley don't miss it.
