I'd rather drive to Kumeu than give them my business (unless I'm desperate!) I think I've seen the Asian woman behind the counter try something resembling a smile only once all year. My advice - avoid like the plague. And someone open up a friendly local store soon!

I thought so until I started stopping by this one a few years…read moreago on my way to work to pick up the odd bottle of milk or loaf of bread or rubbish bag that someone forgot...anyway they're so friendly and helpful here that it really makes you wonder where the whole service factor has gone from a lot of places these days - even if its just the local convenience store. Albany Superette is a family-owned and run shop and no matter which one of them is on duty they all says hi and smile and laugh and chat as though its going out of fashion. Oh and they play classical music all the time! Kind of strange but a quirky touch - I quite like it. There's a bakery, a chemist, a cafe and an ATM all in the same complex so its a handy stop and right on Rosedale road too. Its a bit crammed but hey what Superette isn't.

One whole wall is just a row of drink fridges, and they somehow manage to pack several aisles into the little store. Now, it does mean that you feel quite cramped in there, but hey, it's a dairy, get over it. They always have two people working and there's two payment machines and two registers. You normally always have to ask for a bag, which is annoying, but hopefully they are doing their bit to save the planet and aren't just being lazy or cheap. They've got heaps of different brands for all of their products. If you need something they will probably have it.

It's a massive dairy so you'll have to have a look around if you don't know you're way around, and there's usually boxes of product around the place too because they are always restocking. Not much parking out the front if you come at a busy period, and there are always kids hanging about too. But heaps of products and all the necessities, as well as Lotto.

They stock just about everything you would expect in a dairy and the staff are quite friendly. One little bonus is they sell Hersheys American chocolate here. I was quite surprised to see this in West Auckland, it's the sort of thing you would expect in a speciality chocolate shop. It's not good for our waistline but we usually can't resist buying some of Hershey Kisses or the one with the peanut butter. Another bonus is that there is a video shop here as well. There used to be a video store at Te Atatu South but this has vanished like all the other businesses there. So you can go to Glendene or the Peninsula or you can come to this place. Granted there isn't a massive selection but they have all the new releases. I like this superette and would miss it if it was gone.

It's a massive dairy too, heaps of stuff and a really good selection. It well spaced out and clean, which is important. The staff here are what makes it great. They are really the most helpful dairy owners in the whole world. Like if you get to the counter and you realise you've forgotten something, they'll go and get it for you, even though you could just go and get it yourself and it will take them much longer to go all the way around the counter and walk down the aisle to get the thing you need. That's helpful. And they are really nice too.
