To my surprise, this place was a real treat. It is a locally family owned - got to love small businesses!! Parking was easy breezy!

My wife swears by this place. Based on the reviews, so does everyone else. We have to stop every…read moresingle time we drive by, coming and going. I just don't think it's that good, any of it really... I don't even go inside any more when we stop. There is nothing that I want enough to burn the calories on. My wife won't ever admit it, but we throw away most of what we buy every single time. No one eats it. It just sits there and molds. I take that back, the rolls (maybe butter horns, am I making that up?) are pretty good. I'll tear them suckers up right out of the toaster oven. The cinnamon rolls, baked goods, and loaf breads are all dry and taste to be made with dirt cheap ingredients to me. Chex mix stuff is even bland. How is that!?!?!? I've never had a sandwich so maybe I am missing out. I'm not a big sandwich guy though. It's just not my thing. Last time we came through, she got Lasagna and some Ham and Potato Casserole. After taking a bite of the lasagna, I checked the ingredients and number two on the list is Cottage Cheese! What in the actual...?? Who does that? Not a sign of any garlic at all. Look at my pics for the ingredients yourself. Ham and Potato thing was terrible. Just awful. She didn't even eat that. I'm not even sure who would like that. Additionally, the directions are crap in the casseroles. Double them all as far as time is concerned. I'm not sure if it's my tastebuds that are shit now from all of the spicy food I am used to, or if this stuff is really not as good as the mystique and nostalgia that country folks like to say it has. People are friendly, the place is fairly well kept for an old country bakery . You can see the kitchen making the baked goods. I just don't dig it. '24 - 48/100

Ole Country Bakery - OCB Lasagna. Sounded like a good idea! Their cooking directions are comical. Easily double all of that cook time nonsense.

I live close by this bakery, and have eaten at the restaurant next door, so I was hopeful that the…read morebakery would be as delish as the food next door. I walked around, and took in all the sights, but the cold case up front caught my attention with a chocolate tres leche slice calling my name. It was a little pricey, but I figured, it was worth the splurge. I got it home, made a coffee, and took a bite...and then I was sad. The chocolate actually tasted like mold. The tres leche part was ok, so I separated the chocolate from the cake, and was able to eat that. Very disappointed because it looks like a very nice store and the staff was super nice. I have not been back.

Two problems: nothing was labeled, and I couldn't find any bags or little sheets to pick up the pastries, and I didn't see any signs. Finally I see a shelf of pastry boxes and figured ok, that must be what I need. So I grabbed a small one along with a parchment sheet. I turn around and a girl came up to us and abruptly told me not to use those, while she pulled the box and sheet from my hands. I stood there stunned and embarrassed. She then told me "trays and tongs are up front" and she walked away. I grabbed a couple pastries (a huge pizza tray was awkward to grab just a couple sweet rolls). Another girl working there was very nice, came up to us with a smile and asked if we had any questions - she saved the experience. I will go back and try again now that I know how it works.

Though not the best of circumstances had brought me back to the city I call home, I was still me in that I needed to find somewhere (locally owned if possible) to get a cup of coffee. Yelp put this place at the top of the list and so I stopped in for a recharge. I returned a few hours later, with family, to actually sit down for a cup of coffee and a cranberry orange scone. Let me be clear when I state that I got out of the car expecting not just caffeine and something homemade, but the warm welcoming Southern hospitality that resides in Fayette. And I got a extra large helping of it when I entered. The ambiance was one of comfort, like seeing family during the holidays. The space is also larger than you would expect. Plenty of room to stretch out and converse. You might want to block out a few hours your first time, just to unwind. The team here had a smile on their face and a sense of pride in the business that is rarely seen these days. Quick, knowledgeable, and ready-to-serve they had our orders prepared in a short time. The scone and the coffee didn't last long, but you already assumed that. If I had not been so full from lunch there would have been a few more treats/slices of cake coming my way. But alas, I will have to wait till next time. If you live in the area, count your blessings that you have such a place and be sure to support it regularly. If you're traveling through, be sure to stop in even if only for a drink and pastry to take with you.
