On a trip from Tupelo, MS back to our home in Beaumont,TX, we stopped for gas in a small town. We asked if there was anywhere nearby we could get breakfast even though it was 10:30 am. We were directed to this truck stop and figured "why not". Three ladies were there chatting but when we walked in and asked about breakfast we were directed to their hot table, which was nearly empty. One of the ladies, who was the cook, asked how we liked our eggs as she was going to cook us a fresh breakfast. When our breakfasts with medium fried eggs, which were exactly cooked as we prefer, were brought to us she told us to make sure they were cooked right for us. Personal service with a smile and friendly conversation are hard to come by these days. Needless to say we were very satisfied customers. Three weeks later on another trip from Tupelo to our home, we stopped for a late lunch. Krista, the cook, remembered us from our previous visit. This time we ordered hamburger with zesty curly fries and cheeseburger with river fries (potatoes dusted with seasoned flour and crispy fried). The burgers were hand pressed and one of the juiciest ever! Both types of fries were delish as well. Krista even gave us a piece of cake for dessert. Everything here is fresh. AND homemade. Highly recommend the Black Hawk Truck Stop if you are traveling the Natchez Trace. read more
