I've bought in Scarlet and Violet and Wild At Heart before, so the recipient of the bouquet has a high bar when it comes to floral arrangements. The Little Lake bouquet passed with flying colours, which is a relief - both in terms of money (not that I'm a cheap skate when it comes to my loved ones, by the way) but also that there's a store of that calibre in the local area.

The deliveries came from Floral Studio and every single one made me laugh, especially the pot plant adorned with "new baby" balloon. I'll never know if the joke was intentional - after all, the sender was German ... I loved the overall tackiness and that the deliveries were not of the boring generic sort you would generally expect from a global flower delivery system. Not sure if the shop is still part of Interflora and whether the people running it are still the same, but Floral Studio is still there on its little corner at the less popular end of Portobello Road. And it's a proper flower shop where you can select your favourite blooms to be arranged into a lovely creation - at reasonable prices. I promise to buy more flowers to make sure it's still here in years to come. The area has been changing at a frightening pace and a lot of the more useful suppliers have been replaced by fashion chains or nail bars.

The atmosphere is nice but as someone who suffers from allergies, the upstairs area with all its flowers is a bit too heady for me. Downstairs (with gates both at the top and bottom of the stairs and staff that will help you carry buggies) there's a large soft play area with slides, a swing, a climbing wall, a ball pit and a plethora of toys. There's also a little play house, a large wall painted with blackboard paint with chalks at the ready. On the far side there's a book shelf and reading corner as well as a sensory room fully darkened with just a few colour changing light sources. Absolutely love this place and £5 entry for children is very reasonable for hours of fun!

Having said that, they sell the most beautiful wooden toys, at £21 for a doughnut stick (wooden stick to insert round like colored doughnuts for children), and my favourite knack were these customized wooden, hand painted chairs with your child's name on them. I immediately wanted one for my baby girl, but was put off by their price £80, and they take up to three weeks to be made. The shop is not only for children's bits and pieces they also have a small men's section, with briefs, handkerchiefs, ties, grooming sets, etc and women's accessories along side a stationary corner. I left charmed and still wanting the chair!
