I go here to play pickleball. The facility is nice and well maintained but the rules there for the players is really lacking. Almost all public courts have a four-on four-off policy. Or at the least 2-on 2-off (king of the court) policy. But here, people just hold onto the court the whole time and there is no waitlist for who is next. read more

We came here on a Wednesday around 5 for some Pickleball. Our friends had arrived about an hour earlier than that and were able to get a court. There was about 6 to 8 courts I believe. They were definitely full and people kept coming in and out there was a lot of games going on. This park has clean restrooms and two play set. There was one homeless person sleeping at the men's restroom but he wasn't bothering anyone. I have a feeling this will be a frequent place that we play Pickleball seeing as how there's not very many courts in the surrounding area. read more

I have been trying to clear my head every night. I would take an hour walk just strolling down this park and listening to some songs on my spotify playlist. Every-time I have a bad day I would come here. The past months or so have not been very kind to me. I guess walking here at night has a soothing ailment for me. I'll be the neighborhood watch for some unwanted criminal activity here haha. Wheeler Park and I have a lot history together. I went here for a few weeks when I was a kid. In highschool I came back to volunteer and tutor the kids. Now I am here as an adult and it is nostalgic. I remember playing hockey here as a kid and getting my elbow twisted on the monkey bars. I remember playing cops and robbers. It was a good time. I hope this park still exists, so I can bring my kids here. It's a beautiful park. There is just so much life in here, possibly it is because next to a school. Just seeing the children smile and laugh just really takes your breath away. You can be jealous sometimes of their care-free living, but why be jealous when you can have that feeling right now. I guess growing up you start to build walls and stop trusting others, but parks really just open you back up. Man honestly I prefer just sitting at the park and feeling the breeze than what normal college kids do now a days. -- some cons about this park There are a few "sketchy people".. The park is located near pomona and honestly, If they do no harm let them be. Homeless people are people too. As long as they are not creepers or kidnappers it's okay with me. read more

Only reviewing the hockey rink at this time. Although the park isn't all that big with standard amenities in general. Came to the park on the 4th of July to bring my kids and nephews for some holiday roller hockey. Parking is best either on Doane (Southside) for shade or on Guilford (Westside) which has a walkway up to the rink. For the most part the rink is in fair to good condition. It seems to be open to the public at all times, and their is signage about official hours. If you go, make sure to bring a broom and a dust pan. The west side of the rink collects a lot of pine needles from the trees over hanging at both the northwest corner of the rink but even more so in the southwest corner. There are no nets at the time of this review. It's unclear if they put them out during regular business hours or if they have them at all. There are however, 4 drum trash cans that people obviously use as goals. The skating surface is smooth, no real issues there. The boards are mostly in good shape. There is a cracked one at the north end there are a couple panes of plexiglass missing on the west side. Overall this isn't a terrible place to play. If your just looking to practice skating with a puck on a standard hockey sized area, you're good to. If you want an actual game, you may need to bring actual nets or just deal with the trash cans. There are signs that refer to claremonthockey.org but nothing comes up online so I'm afraid that league may now be defunct. I've added photos to help update this portion of the park. read more

I bought my daughter really expensive skates being that we're in a pandemic and kids need to get outside. We did some research and found that Wheeler Park had an outdoor skate rink. Apparently it's being turned to a Pickleball Court.. I'm pretty sure Pickleball can be played at a tennis court which Claremont has plenty. It's incredibly disappointing that what made Wheeler a unique park is being taken away from the Claremont kids!!!! Selfish! I can't imagine it's the kids that requested Pickleball. Arg! I thought you were better Claremont!!! read more

Nice quiet park. Well maintained green lawns and decent restrooms. My son practices soccer here during the week and it seems to get pretty pack during the evenings. There's always 2-3 teams of soccer practicing during the evenings, so that means there's at least 50 to 60 kids at the park during these times. Plus there's a roller skating ring and a softball field and they seem to be used during these times as well. So this is a quiet park during the day but pretty active during the spring/summer evenings. Overall I give this park 5 stars cause of it's well maintained green turf :-) read more

According to the Claremont Parks website, Wheeler has lots of things: playground, computer lab, preschool, senior center, baseball field, basketball courts, a wading pool in summer, aaaaand...a roller hockey rink. Hells yeah. UNLIKE stupid Long Beach, Claremont extends its small-town hospitality to you, dear reader, and allows you to use its outdoor hockey rink for free. The rink is unlocked on weekends and I believe weeknights as well (it does have lights), for all your skating needs. It's a decent rink with good even flooring, bleachers for spectators, a penalty box, and team boxes for two teams. I haven't been there in several months, but it seemed well-kept then, and Claremont is not about to let its reputation be tarnished. A Saturday around noon held a dad and two little boys practicing hockey stuff at one end, which left my friend and me free to do roller derby drills on the other end until my knees ceased working. Later, some dumbass jerks from the colleges came, changed in one of the boxes (I did NOT want to see you in your boxers, dude!) and put out trashcans and started playing roller hockey like we weren't there. They were lucky they didn't get the beat down, but we were tired and about ready to go, and so instead we changed out of our stinky shirts in my friend's car and thus, they missed out on nudity. read more

Love this park! Has a skating rink it used to be for a hockey league. The park is calm nice playground and even has a baseball field.

The park itself is nice however there is a lot of sketchy people around. The small children playground is duty and has this putrid smell for over a week. Wondering whom and how often they clean this area. Small children play here and if something develops there it can easily be spread towards the lil ones. read more

All new play equipment. Toddler side is in southwestern corner and not visible from vista elementary. Toddler area has a shade sail which is nice. Both areas can get overrun by big kids. There seem to be a lot of unsupervised kids at this park on a regular basis so it's not too high on our list. read more

I love this park.. It is very big.. There are two playgrounds.. One for big kids and the other one for small children.. It has a hockey rink , baseball field, basketball courts and plenty of room to play soccer or football.. Plenty of tables to have parties or get togethers.. I would highly recommend it. read more
