I went in to get an appointment for a bike tune-up. The guys that helped me was a complete arrogant jerk but set up an appointment. Two weeks later, I went to drop off the bike and a different guy helped check me in. He was cold and apparently couldn't care less. The next day, I picked up my bike and a third person helped me. That guy is the only reason I'll ever return to Wheaton's because he was awesome, caring, and had great customer service skills. I'll include a picture of him. I am from out of town and came in to buy some replacement Shimano cleats for my biking shoes. I explained what I needed to the service representative and he took me over to the supply shelf and pulled out the package I needed. He explained the pitch of the cleat and gave me a pointer about outlining the old cleat with a marker before I took it off the shoe. That way I would have the same adjustment for the new cleat. That worked perfectly! I came back later to buy a couple tubes and a patch kit. I received the same good service on that purchase from a different sales person - Hansen. I mentioned that I had done a ride on the Rails to Trails bike path. He asked me which way I went. I told him to the west. He pulled out a trail map of the area and spent several minutes with me recommending other routes to try. Being from out of town, it was very helpful! Hands down the best bike shop in the Flathead Valley! The folks at Wheaton's are friendly and knowledgeable. I have had nothing but positive experiences with these guys. Great selection of new bikes from Salsa, Trek, and Surly. They are just as happy fixing up your old bike as selling you a new one. I've come in with mechanical issues that I was sure would prevent me from riding that day, but they have gotten me back on the trail that same day! They even allow you to try bikes out as a demo before you buy them and apply the demo fee to your purchase. Wheaton's Rocks! read more

Great selection of bikes however their customer service is lacking, in my experience. Organization was a hot mess with employees on different pages. They can't seem to have the same answer from employee to employee. Some say certain bikes are in stock and others say different. The owner (can't remember her name) was putting in a large amount of effort to make sure every one on the store was helped. It was pretty busy when we walked in but someone acknowledged us right away and said they would be right with us, and they were! Needed an emergency repair on my bike as we were traveling through. Stopped in and they found a derailleur and miscellaneous parts and made my bike whole again. They were friendly, fast and reasonably priced. Thanks to them I was able to continue my vacation and use my bike. read more

I find it odd that there are only a few reviews of Kalispell's only bike-specific shop that has been around for decades. Nonetheless, the existing reviews give more credit than my experiences have been. First, the good: Wheatons has the best selection of fat/plus sized bikes in the flathead valley. They also carry an adequate selection of panniers, frame bags and racks for the bikepacking crowd. I've heard they turned the upstairs taxpayer suite into a bike hostel but haven't seen it yet. They seem to have knowledgeable wrenches in the back and have timely service. However (the bad), their overall customer service is so horrendous that people often come to me in disgust, asking where to go for their bike needs. I witnessed a handful of interactions with just employees (while at least one customer was in the store) that were downright shameful. Other bike shops have come and gone through our town, and all have provided far better customer service than Wheatons. They get 2 stars out of respect for their wrenches in the back and the selection of nice bikes (Surly, Salsa, Trek) that can't be found elsewhere in the valley. Wheatons, please work on your customer service; you're the only gig in town! read more
