The Clarendon is mid way down the high street and has been a popular spot with locals for the past few decades. The owners decision to exclude music of any kind mean that it is the sort of place that you can have a conversation in without the need to shout to be heard. There are a good range of beers on offer including the ever popular Old Peculiar. Just one thing if you are visiting Marske and trying to find the place don't be surprised if the locals ask you if you mean the Middle House - so named as it is the middle of three pubs on the High Street. A word of warning though, it is very loud this music. The prices aren't bad but have noticeably increased lately. Still cheaper than others though. It's about £3 for an alcopop and £4.40 for a double vodka and Red Bull. All in all it's a nice pub with a good atmosphere.

There are loads of seats in the lounge area but only a few in the bar area. As it's so small you can feel very squashed too. The bar staff are really friendly and chat as they serve you, makes the queue go a bit quicker I think.

It has a reputation as being quite expensive for pints but as I don't drink them I can't comment on the price. Spirits are good value at £2.40 for a single and you can make it a double for an extra pound. There are a number of comfy sofas and chairs and you rarely find yourself having to stand because there is no seats. The toilets are small but good enough. Some of the locks need fixing though. The bouncers on a Friday and Saturday night are very friendly.
